There have been a lot of movie threads on this here sonic life forum, but what a bout the dumb movies, the silly movies, the movies that seek to entertain and not to make "art"?

my point being movies that people who love "film" think are stupid and lowbrow and beneath their contempt. Bad Santa does not qaulify as hipsters and dofuses alike found it quality.

I'm not sure what you meant by "dumb movies", because I consider dumb movies stuff like the Matrix.. stuff with no appeal at all except clever marketing and a ridiculous "cool factor" (oh man, sunglasses and trenchcoats!). I also considered shit like Forrest Gump dumb: a retarded man conforms his whole life and does everything he can for America and the only person who opposes that happens to be a prostitute who gets AIDS and dies. All I learned from that movie is to conform and everything will be okay -- stand against the opposition and die!

I'm guessing you mean movies with bad acting, though. This is by no means a comprehensive list as I own over 800 movies that have probably seen 5 times that many that could be classified as "dumb but good":

I give a big thumbs up to many of the movies listed here

"Better Off Dead", just saw this on television eariler this week. Still one of the funniest damn movies ever.

"Dazed and Confused", so much better then the more popular pot movies like "Dude Where's my Car" and "Harold and Kumar".

"Nightmare on Elm Street", the sequels. Except maybe "Freddy's Dead" that one was just bad.

i don't count things like john waters & co as dumb. dumb for me is hollywood shite like triple x, or the fast and the furious, not that i've seen either of those.

mostly i don't know what film critics think about the films i like, the only critic i check out is mark kermode, and his favourite film is the same as mine, the exorcist.

Woah, Wayne's World isn't dumb, and holy shit Steven CHOW?? Yeah his early films like God of Cookery, but there is nothing dumb about Shaolin Soccer or Kung Fu Hustle. Unless by dumb you mean epic. Kung Fu Hustle is one of my all time favorite films
