Simon and Garfunkle

I really like some of these songs. My girlfriend burnt me a cd with a bunch of well known songs. My favorite is probably El Condor Pasa(if i could), I Am A Rock, The 7 O'clock News - Silent night. Its funny, cos I used to absoloutly hate these guys, when i listened to metal, but now ive made out to them various times a night, im really having fond memories hehe:D

golden child 05.21.2006 11:24 AM

garfunkel

but yeah i like em.

DemonBox 05.21.2006 12:54 PM

yeah, they're good. Bridge Over Troubled Water is great. But check out Paul Simon's solo stuff, Paul Simon - Rhythm Of the saints, that album is fucking amazing!

dietzer123 05.21.2006 01:20 PM

10 am morning something or something yadda yadda yadda album is really good. the one with sounds of silence

Neongod 05.21.2006 03:31 PM

Love em. The Boxer, Only Living Boy in NY, and of course The Sound of Silence (duh). Good shit.

noisemachine 05.21.2006 03:55 PM

I haven't heard too much of them. I know Paul Simon's solo stuff more. I bought my mom a 2-disc compilation of S&G for her bday or something several years ago and listened to it a bit. It was before I was really into acoustic guitar-based music but now I love it so maybe I should give them another try.

Daycare Nation 05.21.2006 04:58 PM

The Only Living Boy in New York = good song

Pax Americana 05.22.2006 12:50 AM

I adore Simon & Garfunkel. My dad used to play their records around the house all the time when I was a kid, so I've kinda grown up loving them.

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 05.22.2006 10:24 AM

I don't really like Paul Simon's solo stuff. Simon is a good writer, but Art Garfunkle adds so much to the music with his harmonization and stuff.

The Graduate is one of my all time favorite films.

nomadicfollower 05.22.2006 10:39 AM

There is a song I've heard by them which I'm not embarrased to say I really liked. Too bad I can't remember the name of it...

Maybe the fact that Art got busted for possession of weed a couple of times plays a role in this.

BTW I guess I agree with your comment, even though the only Paul Simon record i've listened to was Graceland, with all the african influence.

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 05.22.2006 11:12 AM

Nah, I think they both smoked pot. Garfunkle was just a better singer.

Rob Instigator 05.22.2006 12:31 PM

My mom used to listen to S&G all the time. I grew to love their songs. They are beautiful well written songs. and in their own folky way, they do rock.

Inhuman 05.22.2006 12:32 PM

I've liked them since I was 14 :p

EMMAh 05.22.2006 12:58 PM

I love the song America :)

dietzer123 05.22.2006 09:50 PM

didn't simon do like 99 percent of the writing though?

Yeah. I just think that Garfunkel's vocals lended really well to Simon's songs, and Paul Simon was not as good afterwards.

Man, Paul Simon was awsome afterwards.. Have you heard The Rhythm Of The Saints. It's a really good album.

Disgruntled Youth 05.23.2006 10:13 AM

I love their music I used to get drunk & high on greyhound & listen to it until I would pass out!!!

dietzer123 05.23.2006 11:30 AM

i remember playing you can call me al in pep band thousands of times. it was suprisingly enjoyable in terms of pep band music

dazedcola 05.23.2006 09:13 PM

Yea simon and garfunkle have some great songs, especially "i am a rock", "scarborough fair" and "hazy shade of winter" they really did have a good way with melody.

gmku 05.24.2006 01:06 PM

I secretly like S&G, especially the Bridge Over... LP. Key word: secretly. If I admitted it publicly I'd feel unhip and old, and I would be too likely to remember how long ago it was that I played Bridge to the brink of death, and that would make me remember the girl I was in love with and how I spent all spring break my freshman year in college hunkered down miserable, foggy outside, smoking cigarette after cigarette in my parents' living room while they were away at work, Bridge spinning on the old Sears console stereo, taking a walk to the post office every freaking noon to see if SHE had written back yet after I sent a letter every day, only to find an empty mailbox EVERY DAY, and then going back to my dorm after spring break and finding out she was avoiding me by eating at different times than usual in the cafeteria, and then how she dumped me just dumped me.

God, don't get me started. Where's my damned NNCK album.

thindarkduke13 09.04.2006 02:13 PM

kingcoffee 09.04.2006 10:52 PM

I never liked Art Garfunkle. Paul Simon was where it was at.

kingcoffee 09.04.2006 10:53 PM

Adorable baby girl. I love this photo.

Amnesiac3240 09.05.2006 12:04 AM

The fact that Garfunkel is spelt wrong in the title of this thread is driving me nuts.

....I'm neurotic like that.

Disgruntled Youth 09.05.2006 11:20 AM

I just saw the Concert in Central Park again, damn they pack a crowd!!!

gmku 09.05.2006 11:31 AM

They're a little boring and maudlin, actually. But I can take em in small doses. Bridge is a good album sometimes. Depends on my mood, and I have to skip over the actual "Bridge Over..." track. Paul Simon solo is more boring than S&G, for some reason. He's pretty lame.
