the fall - Imperial Wax Solvent
didn't even realize this was coming out in like a month.
downloading now.. |
Oooh. Ooooooh. New Fall. Happens once a year or so, but still cheers me up.
|
i saw them a couple of weeks ago, their new stuff sounds quite good.
|
haha, you didnt honestly think there wudnt be a new fall this year did you?
|
Pretty good album on first listen....
It's actually one of the weirdest things they've done. Lots of keyboard noises!!! Pretty good. Will tide me over till Tuesday when the new EXPERIMENTAL DENTAL SCHOOL drops.. |
im so pumped for experimental dental school man
|
nnnnno
I dont like this much at all, love the first song and the last couple are pretty good but im afraid it doesnt sound "weird" at all, just like hes found a layer of superglue behind his eyes and is happier to let it set. |
Hahah.
I dunno man, it's pretty odd for the Fall. I mean, they've been getting progressively weirder as of late. Note the song on "Post Reformation TLC" where the band jams and he rants about how they're trying to sound like Captain Beefheart. I just find these songs a bit... odd.. I mean, track 3 is 11 minutes long and full of weird electronic sounds... I dunno. I guess that doesn't explain everything. Weird album! I gotta give it a few more listens... |
That 11 minute song doesnt qualify it as weird it qualifies it as unimaginative.
|
Haha okay. If you want to debate what I find strange about these tracks....
I just find the whole album, the flow of it, the songwriting kind of ODD. Not sure how good the whole thing is yet though I liked it enough on first listen. |
Quote:
noone needs to know what you think about those tracks :p |
fuck yeah. anyone got a linkage? new fall always is good for the soul!
|
somebody shoot mark e smith!

got it, listening to it. it rocks! loving it on first listen.......... |
Ah fuck Pauly, didn't see your post in time, otherwise I woulda upped it for you. I was going to just up it yesterday but I had a feeling you already had it.Yeah, I listened to it again, it IS a really great album. It's odd, though, how energized an album like "country on the click" or "post reformation tlc" sounds, whereas "Real new fall" sounded kinda drab and this album sounds... not... I dunno.. it sounds very very stuck in a rut and dark.. like everyone's just having an awful time. Also, I will definitely go ahead and disagree with mr. ikara cult... This album definitely is weird. Listen to the aformentioned third track again. It goes from a kind of electronic Fall-ish song into a banjo and poppy keyboard song into a very slow, grinding Fall song into a punk noise song! It's amazing. Also, Mark E. Smith is sounding stranger and stranger all the time............ Great album!
|
Quote:
he is sounding stranger and stranger because he is getting deeper and deeper into the depths of late stage alcoholism. im jk, hes one of my all time favorite song writers. |
50 year old man is excellent. a real fuck you song!

You're still wrong about this, and will continue to be so until you stop. I haven't downloaded this yet, seeing as I've been averaging about 2 new new records a year, it seems pretty pointless hearing it now. Been getting good props generally though. But then they always do, regardless of how good the actual record is. See also - Sonic Youth, Nick Cave. |
Anyone remember that old Fall song where Mark goes, "You wanna be on speed like me?" or something like that. I think it was on Dragnet.
|
i listened to it today, and it sounds quite good, it's like versatile and kinda spaced out but still being the fall.
the first song is very weird, the third one is also but has it's precedents and it has the hallmarks of archetypical fall songs. i'm glad they are trying new things, like trying to get away from the reformation post tlc. i give them props for that alone. one thing though, and it's not a criticism as it didn't really felt bad but, their albums are getting longer. |
Yeah, exactly Everyneurotic. This is what.. their 28th album? And yet they're still experimenting while still remaining... the Fall. Very consistent...
|
Actually, it's the 26th. I just read mark prindle's great review of this: http://www.markprindle.com/falla.htm#imperial
|
its their 27th right? does mark count slates as an album or an e.p. anyway the fall.. they are always different but still the same umistakable fall.
|
I think I'll be hard-pressed to find a better song than "50 year old man" this year.
"I got a three foot rock hard on, but I'm too busy to use it, I'm a fifty year old man and I like it, I'm a fifty year old man -- What you gonna do about it? And don't forget you tried to destroy me, Steve Albini -- he's in collusion with Virgin Trains-ah." ... SLUG: I had to laugh back in the late 80s and early 90s when you were doing more electronic stuff; there was a backlash among the supposedly cool people here, like, ‘The Fall sells out.’ MES: Yeah, Albini and all that bull … you know he wanted to do the new LP? SLUG: That might be interesting from a production standpoint. MES: Oh, fuck off. SLUG: Who produces you now? MES: Me |
No
Just no Its Lazy Its dull MES needs to just do the stuff with Mouse On Mars, "The Fall" is dead as far im concerned, i saw them 2 and a bit years ago with the pre-Reformation lineup and they were great, but the last 2 albums have been shitshitshit. MES needs to pair up with Von Sudenfed |
Damn, what's your hate with this record? Not that it matters, but almsot everyone agrees it's a creative, weird, imaginative, great record -- and for once I agree.
That stuff with Mouse on Mars sucked. |
ok. recent fall records..
unnuterable... pretty good to ok country on the click- damn good to fist flying great fall heads roll- fists flying classic fall album with 2 of the best fall tracks ever on it post reformation tlc- poor, piss poor to be honest von sudenfed- yeah, great little gimmicky album, nothing more than that imperial wax solvent- sublime genius ahoy! even better than fall heads roll and dont go saying i prefer live at the witch trials and perveted or hex.... we know cuz we all prefer them!!!!!!! that was then, this is now.... long live the mighty fall! |
Quote:
Tromattic Reflexxions rocked like a bastard! Maybe its because youre American ASP :p MES said that thing about it being your Gran(dma) on bongos and it still being The Fall. Thats the principle im applying, i think Mouse on Mars are the best band for him to work with. |
Personally, I hated fall heads roll but LOVED real new fall. The last album was pretty piss poor, agreed, though it had its moments. This one's fucking great though -- I think we can all agree on that. Even though I already did a fall top 10 I think I will again as I've changed my mind:
1. Dragnet 2. Slates EP 3. Hex Enduction Hour 4. This Nation's Saving Grace 5. Room to Live 6. Real New Fall 7. Perverted by Language 8. Live at the Witch Trials 9. Grotesque (After the Gramme) 10. Imperial Wax Solvent |
Quote:
Christ, i was hoping for some support from my European compatriots! Imperial Wax Solvent is DUSTIN THE TURKEY level laziness!!! Why is it only me!!! |
Hah.. yeah, I'm American, so I guess I don't "get" the Fall like everyone else. Hah. Then again, I don't think there's anything to "get". It's just consistently great music. I think they're in the top 10 best bands ever, easily. As I said on another thread, they're most consistent than Sonic Youth at least.
Their message board is filled with too many self-important shitheads though.. |
Quote:
I have PBL, Hex Enduction and The Infotainment Scan as the the top 3 every time. Personally ive never "got" This Nations Saving Grace. Its kinda how i feel about Sister, everyone disagrees with me |

ITS. WHAT. THIS. BAND. IS. ABOUT. |
Haha, dammit, I'm in a list mood, I'm going to do a sonic Youth top 10...

|
In fact, I'd say that, yes, that's THE definitive stereolab list.
