Autechre
Boards Of Canada Battles Aphex Twin Broadcast !!! I also like Maxïmo Park, Jackson & His Computer Band... Still have a lot to dig into that label actually. I'm currently enjoying the new Autechre. Really, it's not the accessible album everyone pictured... It's enjoyable on first listens but the more I listen to it, the more it grows on me, and I begin to realize it's really one of their bests... |

That minus Broadcast plus Seefeel and Prefuse 73. |
the new autechre is fuckin great, but all their stuff is great. but its not like confield or draft 730 where i feel the need to listen to it over and over.
ive always had great loathe for vincent gallo, i just see him as the epitome of pretentiousness in his films, music, and personality, the guy has a god complex which is outa this world |
I like Authecre's music but he isn't the most talented artist on this label. They only reason he gets talked about so much is because of Thom Yorke and because a lot of people always say that they love this record label but don't know many of the artists on it apart from the ususal AFX etc stuff. Great DVD of Warp videos, if you get it.

Authecre is a duo. I personally had no idea that Thom Yorke was into them, but it doesn't surprise me. I've loved them for around a decade and first heard about them from constant coverage in The Wire. They are my favorite Warp act, tied with Squarepusher, but I have no idea who is "talented" or "best", just who I like. |
Quote:
Yes, sorry, they are indeed a duo. I have that copy of The Wire they were on a few years ago. I'm generally speaking, the name Authecre or AFX are namedropped a lot more often than anyone else on this label, and yes, Thom Yorke's patronage seemed to have helped this happening a lot. |
autechre- by a mile. quality electro since 1992!
aphex twin (he didnt release as afx on warp!) lfo battles !!! broadcast maximo park........... joke!!!! seriously its april 1st!!! heavy squarepusher, not the vege cafe sipping mint tea from a cardboard cup squarepusher plone plaid and the awesome seefeel. |
Ok, for the anal out there: I abbreviated Aphex Twin's name out of my own choice. Jesus wept.
|

My getting into them on the level I have was hastened by something entirely more individual. Having read them hyped in The Wire literally dozens of times, I stumbled upon six of their cds for dirt cheap in a pawn shop in Olympia. I hope whoever owned them first really enjoyed the heroin they got for these as much as I do the music. What can I say, my faves on Warp are their most popular acts, as Squarepusher gets hyped plenty too, and Aphex Twin is the only electronic artist many people listen to or have heard of. I'm obviously not that way with all music by any stretch, it's just a strange coincidence with this label (and I have heard plenty of other stuff, though alot of it seems pretty Aphex derivative at least at first listen). Aphex would be my #3 (or maybe BOC, who are also huge), though you have to forgive him for a lot of material. That's what you get for being so prolific though. |
Most of the above including Grizzly Bear.
On a different note. It's too bad that Clear doesn't exist anymore. They put out some amazing stuff in their days. |
Aphex Twin
Boards of Canada Spongebob Squarepusher I think µ-ziq might have had something on Warp. Battles |
Quote:
Yes, he did, but I can't remember right now if it was under the name of Mike Paradinas or else. |
Actually I don't think he did, which is odd but anyway.
Also Luke Vibert aka Wagon Christ and Plug. |
Quote:
I'm pretty sure he did. |
I'm relatively sure that if he did it'd be on Wikipedia, being on Warp is a pretty big deal. I'm not saying you're wrong or anything though.
I agree with PAULYBEE when he says he prefers hard Squarepusher to pretentious Jazz Squarepusher. |

Dude, I have been buying this bloke's records since before you were even born. Wankipedia can sod off. Read this: In March 1995, Mike signed to Virgin, releasing the Salsa With Mesquite EP and the album In Pine Effect. ("The difference is that where the Aphex Twin's topographical doodles suggest undiscovered, unpeopled planets of techno, Mu-ziq's approach is a good deal more emotional, attempting to tap into the inner, surfing the soul...This is 'techno' elevated above the more functionalism of the dancefloor, lighting fires in the heart and painting pictures for the mind's eye." - Melody Maker). This year also saw the genesis of 'Jake Slazenger', one of Mike's numerous pseudonyms with the acclaimed future-past Casio jazz-funk of the 'Makesaracket' album on Clear. 1996 saw Paradinas join forces with Richard James for Aphex's one and only collaboration album Mike and Rich on Rephlex; it was also the year that Mike signed to Warp for his second Jake Slazenger album: Das Ist Ein Groovy Beat, Ja. http://www.outlar.com/artist.php?id=687 |
I have been owned. I know he did expert knob twiddlers on rephlex.
Haha wankipedia. |
I forget how much I like Squarepusher until I listen to him.
|
mike paradinas never released anything on warp. on rephlex yes and astralwerks but not warp. but he did appear on one of those artificil intellegence compilations warp had out ad that 10 year anniversary limited vinyl thing which was astoundingly amazing under the name jake slazenger.
im trying to remember my mates old room in dublin with possibly every known warp record released all in alphabetical order........ |

Ok, I'll try to find the record at home and scan the cover, then. That should end the speculation. |
