Choose one

Cantankerous 04.03.2008 03:56 PM

LPS

45s are a pain in the ass

!@#$%! 04.03.2008 03:56 PM

LPs, you dont have to stand up every 3 minutes

Disgruntled Youth 04.03.2008 03:59 PM

45's are nice little records though plus you can cut away some garbage on those lp's plus the sound of a 45 is thunder.

45s that are the size of LPs. Like the PiL Metal Box. The sound is awesome.

I agree w/ this sentiment. The only problem I have w/ any other size than 12" is cueing the needle to the lead in track. You miss that, & it's hell for yr needle.

Everyneurotic 04.03.2008 04:18 PM

33"? penis enlargement pills?

i love them all, music is music and all have their artistic appeal.

also, people can screw up and make ugly twelve-inchers as easy as ugly seven-inches.

Rob Instigator 04.03.2008 04:20 PM

I love them all!

I g
have a stackable turntable and I can put up to 8 7" singles in at a time and just rock out for half an hour. great stuff

I had one of them. Looked something like this:

Rob Instigator 04.03.2008 04:25 PM

many turntable platters have a deep set groove in the middle of their platter so if your needle/stylus goes off a 7" or a 10" vinyl it will sit on that groove with the needle safe from harm.

Um, I think you may be using them incorrectly.

gmku 04.03.2008 04:37 PM

I hate that you have to use an adapter for the spindle. What's up with that? In most cases. Some of my 45s have a regular small spindle hole.

marleypumpkin 04.03.2008 04:38 PM

Can I get a little A-Men on the issue of longer lengths for the lead in track for 7 & 10"? I have MELVINS' 5" Flipper tribute single, & the lead in track is literally as small, or smaller than 1/2".

Disgruntled Youth 04.03.2008 04:39 PM

The cone adapter works best in that case...

most 45's made in the USA have small spindle holes.
the large spindle holes are for the jukeboxes man!!!!!

sometimes there is no space for a lead in track. pavement's rattled By The Rush single is like that. sometimes the needle just pops out of there

It is a pain having to deal w/ those adaptors. I have a record clamp, so it's doule the process for me. I have to lay the 7" in the adaptor, remove the adaptor, then clamp w/ a Rek-O-Kut disc clamp.

Or how about lead out tracks that have continuos loops. I know Double Nickles On The Dime had them.

gmku 04.03.2008 04:43 PM

Hey, yeah, you're right. I think it's era-related, too, though. The older 45s, like my Sub Pop, have the big holes. But anything after around 95 is the small spindle.

Rob Instigator 04.03.2008 04:46 PM

I use these bad boys. when I rock 6 at a time.

Rob Instigator 04.03.2008 04:47 PM

all my PJ Harvey 7" singles (which is ALL OF THEM! my Pj harvey collection rules on vinyl) have cum all over them

ha ha ha! no they don;t, but it's right here in my hand there it is!!!!!

Everyneurotic 04.03.2008 04:51 PM

you guys bitch a lot.

i have missed once putting the needle on a record, and i was like 11 years old then. it's not so difficult if you have eyes and an average steady pulse.

the large holes on the 7"s, i have a big block adapter that i used on my mom's old turntable and the one i have now, which is a regal piece of shit, has a rising block for the big hole singles. i don't think it's hard to get the little plastic disc adapters on the internet.

and i have big hole 7"s, made in 2000-something no less. people try not to manufacture them anymore but they are still around.

I have one of these as well, but for easy removable purposes (reason Y stated above) I use this...

It's obviously underneath the level.

Rob Instigator 04.03.2008 04:57 PM

british singles zstill are made mostly with the large hole, for jukeboxes. I want a 7" jukebox so bad so I can put all my singles on it and rock out and earn money with my friend's quarters

ohhh, that sounds so awesome!!!

i might have like 30 7"s, wouldn't justify the expenses of buying a jukebox though.

somehow, without me noticing, my 7" single collection has expanded to three 16 inch long boxes.

Disgruntled Youth 04.03.2008 05:25 PM

I just got a case to fit my newly aquired 45's. Tupper ware does the trick for now...

This Is Not Here 04.03.2008 05:25 PM

Gotta love those 33 inch records...

doesn't help that I drink about 52 ounces of beer a night plus hit some great mid grade...

Huh? I always thought that was the other way around - that jukebox-hole 7s were generally American.
I'd say that at least 90% of my UK-pressed 7s have a small centre hole, though older (60s/early 70s) UK 45s typically have a push-out centre.

Disgruntled Youth 04.07.2008 04:37 PM

Yeah Greensleeve's out of London does small hole I dig that a hole lot more. Fuck I'm still high of the fact that I did my radio show today with one working turntable...

Toilet & Bowels 04.07.2008 06:50 PM

i like 7"s, it's a shame they're so expensive nowadays though
