sonic youth touring in 2008?

so hey! is a 2008 tour really shaping up or am I getting it wrong?
are they gonna play the US and Europe extensively or just something here and there?

I'd love to see them once more this year!

PAULYBEE2656 04.09.2008 06:55 AM

there has been very few years when they didnt tour.

screamingskull 04.09.2008 09:20 AM

I don't know if i can be bothered to go all the way down to London again to see them.

Note To SY - Play Birmingham!!!

If they were doing Sister, or Washing Machine or Murray Street from start to finish in London i'd go. But new material???? Hmmmmmmmm.................

This Is Not Here 04.09.2008 11:02 AM

I bloody hope they are touring soon, due to a very hideous fuck-over by circumstance I still havn't seen them live. Please SY! Please!!!

no sense in playing a whole album again.
while i still think they should add stereo sanctity to the set!

i'm still disappointed that they played with the Flaming Lips last time through St. Louis. that show sold out faster than it should have. Every lips fan plus every SY fan all crammed into a place like the pageant? not a good idea. they should just put me on the bill so i can see it for free.

I'll be seeing them for my 4th time on April 25th in Nashville, Tennessee. The last time I saw them was in Brookly last July on their Daydream Nation tour !

Woohoo !!

Welcome! That makes 3 confirmed boardies for the Nashville show. Stick around for the roll-call I'll be putting up sometime next week.

I don't know if I'm included in that sum total, but if not, count me in.

Yeah, you're included. I count myself, you, and reg.

Lucky reginald, getting to see them on the DN tour must have been great.

That McCarren pool show in Brooklyn was FANTASTIC !

With all the gear I surely thought they were filming for a DVD. The performance was so crisp and inspiringly energetic. At the end Mark Ibold came on and said he'd wanted JUST the core members to play because it was their hometown, he played with them during their encore of Rather Ripped tunes.

I was directly centered about 30 feet back for the best possible sights and sounds, great crowd and overall atmosphere.

I see you're in K-town, I'm right in Nashvegas near Vanderbilt University about 2 miles from the venue where SY is playing. Is there a preshow meetup somewhere ? I could make suggestions.

deflinus 04.13.2008 11:59 PM

the mccarren pool show WAS fucking good.

i dont know if i'll go to the JULY 4 show. ill try

Sonic Youth 37 04.14.2008 12:47 PM

Okay, I just want to say a big "FUCK YOU!!!!!" to the Norwegians of the board. Sonic Youth and My Bloody Valentine at Øya? C'mon, that's not right. It's not fair. Not fair, say I!

I have no idea why it's bold now.

Go ahead, shoot. I've always wanted to meet my fellow SY boardies. Still have yet to meet one.

I just went to check the venue. It's good. Holds about 1200 and in old warehouse, not too high of ceilings and big bar on the side. Not sure about where to park there, but seeing as I'm less than 2 miles from it, I'll just walk.

When are you coming to town ? Personally, I want to get to City Hall way early to get against the stage for their performance. The stage is chest high which is perfect. I'll take my camera and photo like I did in this shot here I did a couple of years ago.

So anyway, let me know what time you plan on getting to Nashville and what type of place you'd like to go to...restaurant/bar/park, whatever and let's do it.

marleypumpkin 04.16.2008 12:09 PM

Sounds like a good place to catch an SY show. It sounds similar to the venue I saw them at before.

I'll probably be there by mid-afternoon (6:00), so that should give us time to try & locate everyone. I'll more than likely be wearing this shirt...

Got it on the Sonic Nurse tour.

BTW, nice pic.

Sonic Youth 37 04.16.2008 03:45 PM

I'll be there around the same time as marley, probably. I have to go to two classes that morning and wait on my friend to get into town. Should be leaving Knoxville around 2 o'clock Nashville time. No idea what I'll be wearing but it'll mostly likely be a black shirt of some kind and bright green Chuck Ts

Alright, sounds like this is coming together. Now, who's going try meeting them? I was stupid last time & didn't try, & there one of the most easiest bands to meet in person. So hopefully this time I'll get the chance.

I met Murph & J.Mascis outside their bus before a show once, so maybe I can catch one of them roaming around the outside of the venue & get them to wish me a Happy B-day on stage. (4-24)

...Just wishful thinking.

Sonic Youth 37 04.16.2008 04:19 PM

I'm in on trying to meet them. I wimped out on trying to meet Blonde Redhead as they were going out to eat after the show.

reginald 04.17.2008 10:53 AM

I met Steve grabbing something from under his bus a couple of years ago. But that was in the afternoon as they were going in for soundcheck. You gotta get there early !! 6pm is evening..not mid-afternoon ! LOL

Show starts at what, 8pm, so I'll go linger about 6 actually. And parking is across the street, a bit behind the buildings and is free. It didn't appear to be a HUGE lot though, so hard to tell how easy a place will be.

what happened?

screamingskull 04.17.2008 11:04 AM

Lee was mean, well not mean, just brief. and he's short, also short.

It just wasn't how i imagined it would be.

nicfit 04.17.2008 11:08 AM

Uh, when I "meet" (if a brief talk after a show is what we're talking about) BRH they've always been friendly and nice. Kazu made strange faces while I talked with the guys. Simone is by far my fav.

edit: oh, you were talkin' bout sy.

Come on!, maybe he was busy or something.

I've met him a couple of times and each time he's been made of awesomeness.

And short? *shakes head*

screamingskull 04.17.2008 11:20 AM

Phil he was sooooooooooooooo short.

HA HA, no, i am exaggerating it. I know, it wasn't as bad as when i met The Brian Jonestown Massacre, man that went badly.

But i was just a bit miffed, i mean he didn't know the trouble i had gone to, to go to those shows. But still, he really didn't care whatsoever.

I find that a lot with SY though.

Why what happened with BJM?

On a side note, heard about Mars Volta doing a gig in London?

yeah i gots ma tickets all ready!! got them before they went on sale in fact!!!

I'm sure i have told you about the BJM show before, haven't i???

Well if not, it was 2004? i think? and me and a friend of mine went back stage after the show. I left after a little while as Anton was totally wasted and acting like a twat, like he was going to hurt himself or someone else really badly at any minute. My friend stayed, i tried to get her to leave but she outright refused. And in the end she ended up sleeping with one of them, i think his name is Frankie. It ruined my opinion of them completely.

I saw them live again last year and booed them after every song, even though they were fabulous.

Haha maybe you did, but I forgot it seems. Well he seemed like a pleb. In fact he seemed like a pleb on DIG! not some tortured genius he want to be anyway.

As for Mars Volta, good on you.

I shlla stop hijacking this thread.

"of them" as in "of this frankie and her" or "of the whole band"?

_slavo_ 04.17.2008 12:21 PM

You guys have fun there. Socialize and have a drink with each other. It's always great to meet a fellow boardie!

By the way, I talked to Lee on a Text of Light show a couple of months ago. Well, mr. Greenlight did talk a lot more, but I exchanged a sentence or two with him as well.

Of her, as we have not been friends since. Of the whole band, as they let it happen, and were all acting like assholes that night. And especially of Frankie, he was like 40 something and she was 16.

Moshe 04.18.2008 12:34 AM

The former Velvet Underground frontman and notorious curmudgeon will be playing at The Calvin Theater in Northampton Sunday, April 20 with Sonic Youth frontman and NoHo resident Thurston Moore. Reed is embarking on a brief U.S. tour with Moore and, later, the rest of Sonic Youth before heading transatlantic to promote the recently released Julian Schnabel documentary "Lou Reed's Berlin," according to Pitchfork Media.
