i actually remember this being on the telly!
|
yeah i remember this too, i used to have it on video, wasn't Belly on this show aswell?
|
Thanks!
|
i remember this being a big thing in my class in school. 5 of us stayed in and watched it. classic shit
|
ah, back when Smashing Pumpkins were at least decent
|
True that.
|
i dont understand, was this a real show or is this just a comp of videos excluding nirvana?
|
Yeah I'm wondering that as well.
|
The Late Show was an arts programme that ran on bbc2 during the early 90's. No Nirvana was an special show of 'grunge' era bands that had performed live on various bbc shows including the Late Show itself and Jools Holland. I this have it on tape somewhere.

Watched this tape the other night. Belly were indeed on the show (well remembered!) and Pearl Jam kicked the programme off. |
I have this on tape too, Belly was on it playing Gepetto and Pearl Jam playing Alive.
|
This is great, thanks for posting.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but No Nirvana is being shown on BBC4 in the UK next Friday, after the PJ20 premiere.
I googled it to pass the tracklist on to a friend and this thread popped up, so I figured i'd register to let you guys know. Hope some of you in the UK can catch it. |
I seeded a copy of this compilation in DVD format to the pirate bay a while ago, i originally obtained it at dimeadozen where it was banned due to the inclusion of an officially released Rage Against The Machine video. That torrent is still active, in case anyone would be interested:
http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/6628118 An upgrade would be certainly welcome. Hopefully someone would be able to capture this BBC4 broadcast. Thanks for the heads-up. |

I should be able to grab the BBC4 broadcast... |
Great; thanks, Stu!

I can record it straight to dvd from the digital broadcast as long as I remember. Maybe if someone bumps this thread the night before to help me... |
I'll try to remember to bump this thread, then (although I don't log in too often lately)...
|
hopefully I'll remember.
|
i'm downloading that torrent, seems good
|
Wow, Rage Against the Machine is unbelievable in this set.
|
Speaking of Nirvana, did anyone else pick up the Super Deluxe version of Nevermind? It's fucking awesome. I know panto bought it too.
|
Quote:
Hmmm, I also heard that it wasn't remastered very well. |
It's all good. Thanks buddy.
|
tomorrow stu, remember....
EDIT: I'm getting my days mixed up (easy to do when you're not working) it's on Friday not tomorrow! |
was the Rage Against The Machine performance done especially for that show? Ive seen it on the internet for years, never knew what it was from.
|
hope somebody remembers to get it since the torrent of the old rip is stalled at 26% after a few days
|
Why is it called No Nirvana?
|
Quote:
the youtube videos still work |
Quote:
yeah, i would prefer a download but if not the youtube will do |
Quote:
Ive only watched half of it but its basically a load of rock bands from the era who arent Nirvana. hence there is no Nirvana. |
Quote:
Well yeah all the performances are taken from different episodes of The Late Show and then compiled into one big special show. |
Quote:
I think it's pretty obvious why :D |
Quote:
don't worry I will record it, even if I do forget on friday then it's repeated again on Sunday. |
Quote:
So it's a deliberate reference to the band? That's funny. Nirvana had not yet achieved their pinnacle success at that time. It also seems to indicate that "Nirvana's everywhere; let's exploit that" Really it just makes me want to hear Nirvana. Aside from Sonic Youth, and possibly Dino, Nirvana was/is better than all the other artists combined. |
Quote:
its from 1993 |
Quote:
I think the program was first broadcast in 1993, Nirvana were pretty big then weren't they? EDIT: Ikara got in there first |
Im sorta coming round to Dinosaur Jr.
I think this is a sign of me getting old |
Quote:
Oh. Well then. I suppose it's an acceptable title in that case. Still... it implies a sort of "Hey Nirvana's everywhere, but this shit is the real deal!" kind of attitude. But it features the Smashing Pumpkins for fuck's sake. Whatever. Doesn't matter. |
