Torn Curtain 04.12.2008 06:04 AM

PAULYBEE2656 04.12.2008 09:52 AM

i remember this being a big thing in my class in school. 5 of us stayed in and watched it. classic shit

pbradley 04.12.2008 01:51 PM

ah, back when Smashing Pumpkins were at least decent

ZEROpumpkins 04.12.2008 09:04 PM

True that.

dazedcola 04.12.2008 09:53 PM

i dont understand, was this a real show or is this just a comp of videos excluding nirvana?

ZEROpumpkins 04.13.2008 12:27 AM

Yeah I'm wondering that as well.

nick2767 04.16.2008 03:50 PM

The Late Show was an arts programme that ran on bbc2 during the early 90's. No Nirvana was an special show of 'grunge' era bands that had performed live on various bbc shows including the Late Show itself and Jools Holland. I this have it on tape somewhere.

Watched this tape the other night. Belly were indeed on the show (well remembered!) and Pearl Jam kicked the programme off.

purplebumblebee 04.27.2008 04:28 AM

I have this on tape too, Belly was on it playing Gepetto and Pearl Jam playing Alive.

Derek 04.27.2008 04:59 AM

This is great, thanks for posting.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but No Nirvana is being shown on BBC4 in the UK next Friday, after the PJ20 premiere.

I googled it to pass the tracklist on to a friend and this thread popped up, so I figured i'd register to let you guys know.

Hope some of you in the UK can catch it.

I seeded a copy of this compilation in DVD format to the pirate bay a while ago, i originally obtained it at dimeadozen where it was banned due to the inclusion of an officially released Rage Against The Machine video. That torrent is still active, in case anyone would be interested:
http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/6628118

An upgrade would be certainly welcome. Hopefully someone would be able to capture this BBC4 broadcast. Thanks for the heads-up.

I can record it straight to dvd from the digital broadcast as long as I remember. Maybe if someone bumps this thread the night before to help me...

hipster_bebop_junkie 11.05.2011 06:52 PM

I'll try to remember to bump this thread, then (although I don't log in too often lately)...

stu666 11.05.2011 07:03 PM

hopefully I'll remember.

keep poppin pimples 11.06.2011 10:51 AM

stu666 11.09.2011 09:07 AM

EDIT: I'm getting my days mixed up (easy to do when you're not working) it's on Friday not tomorrow!

the ikara cult 11.09.2011 03:49 PM

was the Rage Against The Machine performance done especially for that show? Ive seen it on the internet for years, never knew what it was from.

keep poppin pimples 11.09.2011 04:33 PM

hope somebody remembers to get it since the torrent of the old rip is stalled at 26% after a few days

E. Noisefield 11.09.2011 04:47 PM

Why is it called No Nirvana?

Ive only watched half of it but its basically a load of rock bands from the era who arent Nirvana. hence there is no Nirvana.

Well yeah all the performances are taken from different episodes of The Late Show and then compiled into one big special show.

So it's a deliberate reference to the band?

That's funny. Nirvana had not yet achieved their pinnacle success at that time. It also seems to indicate that "Nirvana's everywhere; let's exploit that"

Really it just makes me want to hear Nirvana. Aside from Sonic Youth, and possibly Dino, Nirvana was/is better than all the other artists combined.

I think the program was first broadcast in 1993, Nirvana were pretty big then weren't they?

EDIT: Ikara got in there first

the ikara cult 11.09.2011 06:20 PM

Im sorta coming round to Dinosaur Jr.

I think this is a sign of me getting old

Oh. Well then. I suppose it's an acceptable title in that case.

Still... it implies a sort of "Hey Nirvana's everywhere, but this shit is the real deal!" kind of attitude. But it features the Smashing Pumpkins for fuck's sake.

Whatever. Doesn't matter.
