BIG CITY Vs. small town
Bored at work.
Which is preferable? Poll soon. |
i love living in the city [...] where junk is king and the air smells shitty.
|
Big City.
|
Big City. Metro area of 300,000 or more.
|
I'm living in a small town (pop. 8,000) for the first time in my life, and I'm quite enjoying it. I thought it might be difficult to make friends at first, but on the contrary I found it much easier than in the big cities I've lived. Every weirdo drop out artist type hangs out at the same place, everybody knows everybody, it's nice. Slightly inconvenient perhaps, but I like it.
|
I just went from living in a very big city to a small town. I miss it, badly.

Wow, my city is three steps below New York city, wow impressive.
|
my city is just below the best city (in theory) in the world.
|
Every-n I so want to live a while in Mexico City. I want to live in several countries before I die.
|
I really enjoy San Francisco.
It's just so expensive. |

Tokyo ain't all that. I think I technically live in the greater Tokyo metropolitan area. Sure as shit couldn't tell by looking outside though. |
That's going to be my home, hopefully in the fall.
|
it really depends on the people in the city not the city itself..... i love tokyo it is an awesome awesome city and the people there are wonderful, contrary to that i kinda actually really despised london, although the people i met there were lovely the city itself is a filthy fucking stink hole dirty grimey grey and pungent. paris is lovely but the people are snooty, berlin the people are lovely the city itself is grey and cold and mostly ugly except for alot of the newer architecture springing up around the place.
population really doesn't mean much to me but it is much easier to be anonymous in are large city even if it is only 1000000 or so people like my home city. |
mega city for me.
|
30,000,000+

that would be tokyo these days |

I hear ya. Though my situation's slightly different. I went from living in a lovely, cosmopolitan college town to an ugly, narrow small town. It's hell. College towns are much like big cities, with all the benefits and few of the disadvantages. |

i did that, for 2 years. just claw your way out of the hole. |
Work in NYC live in teeny NJ. Best of both worlds...and no one fucks with my bikes.
|
I can't decide what to vote for.
As much as I love the city, I love the country. Their both awesome. |
i love living in a city but not huge-like jerusalem\boston are the perfect size for me. when im older and have less interest in world domination i would like to relocate to a much smaller town
|
I prefer the anonymity of living in a 'mega city' (in my case London) and the ability to avoid certain people that share it with you, by virtue of its sheer size.
I'd quite happily leave London, but only for another megatropolis - NYC, Berlin, Paris, etc. EDIT: Looking at the list of cities by population, it appears that London isn't a Mega City at all but a 'very big' one. I feel humbled. |
i much prefer smaller cities. I chose the large town category.
Growing up in Atlanta, the move to a smaller city was tough at first, but now I wouldn't even think about trading it in for another big city. |

^^Tchernobyl ? Well.^^
It looks calm... |
Small town where the land and air are plentiful. And the neighbors sparse. The stars bright.
|
uh.. large town seems.. well 50k to 499k?
that is a jump. there has got to be a few more steps involved with this. It probably depends on your region. An area with 40k people could be a metropolis in some places and a village in another. Not trying to be nit-picky but it seems like a drastic leap. In the long run i'll probably be a 400k city type but I'm sure I'll hit just about every one of those spots along the way. |
It's funny seeing 50,000 being considered a small city. The town I live in consists of two citys because they're so close and every thing and between the two there are about 20,000 people and it's pretty bustling.
