right, let me get this straight. coldplay suck ass. they make boring middle of the road music that does nothing to interest or inspire me.
but i really like their new song. its very radioheady, i admit, but its powerful, driving, and though it loses its momentum at the end, a good song in my book.

I actually quite like their first album Parachutes. The rest of their stuff is completely harmless and pleasant. Personally, I find them no more boring than Radiohead.

The song is actually a preety good one. One of the few that I like from them.

Liking one song by a singer or band is easy. There are plenty of bad bands or singers of which I can say, this one song is not so shitty. They are called guilty pleasures. We all have them.

Try to parlay this into scoring with a chick that likes Coldplay.

radiohead, a band that can make huge guitar post punk inspired arena rock records just as easy as they can experimental pop records charachterized by everything from idm, free jazz, and even fucking experimental drone, is no better than coldplay, the britpop equivalent of third eye blind/matchbox 20 mainstream rock.

Actually I like Coldplay, but not too much. That's a band that I can easily listen to singles (I even find the singles from the last album good), but I won't listen to more than that. But they got good songs. That would be great if they weren't overplayed on radios

I'd rather hang upside down than listen to the new song by coldplay.

Mind you, i'm not saying that Radiohead is a "bad" band or even that I dislike them. They just do very little for me. They have some songs that I enjoy, just like Coldplay. I'm not necessarily trying to say one band is better than the other, but for me they both make pleasant enough music that I wouldn't shut off if it came on the radio or a friend turned it on, much like Third Eye Blind. Not Matchbox 20 though, I hate them!

Both bands (meaning Radiohead and Coldplay) also have obnoxious/unattractive frontmen. :o

well as long as you make clear its a personal preference and make note that there is absolutley no comparison between the bands in musical talent and creativity.

Naw. I try to stay pretty neutral and level-headed when it comes to most music. There are however some bands, for me, that suck in the maintsream and the underground. A band's level of popularity, or lack thereof, has little to do with what I think of their music. Example: I think Animal Collective are just as awful as Nickelback. Different bands with different music, but equally awful. Example 2: Joanna Newsom is just as hideously grating as Amy Winehouse. You get the idea!
