BYOP
I hadn't really heard much of their stuff untill I bought their newest album. I couldn't even stand flipping past the second track.
I'd like to know how you people find this band to be... I don't know, I guess I just can't find any appeal in high school party anthem music. |
Well, I like it. However, I can see why they don't appeal to everybody. And welcome back, great post.

They're completely and 100% awful, worse than Paramor or whatever that stupidass band is called.

I saw this lot at ATP in December 2006. I knew nowt about them, and they were well enjoyable and energetic. They were better than the goddamn Stooges, for crying out loud.

I downloaded their album and listened to it once and never thought about it again to bother erasing it... until now.

The reason everyone has a stick up their arse about this band is because they can't stand to see a happy, mindlessly derivative yet rocking band enjoying some popularity. I will admit that a few tracks on the new album suck a lot of balls, but that's no reason to class them as 'worse than Paramore'. The entire first album and at least one of their summer EPs were fantastic. |
i like the first album a lot, it was probably my summer album two years ago. and i like it because it's so much fun.
the new one, it's very very ok, and one too many times sounds a lot like paramore with like crazy lyrics. but yeah, better than magik markers at least. |

no, kidding, ha ha. I think they just do pop-rock, it's not that they will change your life or anything, the best you can ask is to be entertained a bit. They can be fun, and some songs are really good. Some others are average, but, hey, I wish I had that much fun on stage when I was as young as they are. They don't suck, they are just not much interesting if you are in need of something different from pop-rock... in their "genre" I think they're actually pretty good. |
The perverse joy that I get reading through these threads is the fact that the first post declares a band shit, and sometimes by the third or fourth one someone might appear and make a comment similar to the one Toilet & Bowels made, which will often cause the majority of the rest of the people posting on said thread mitigating their attack on the band and even admitting to liking some of their songs. Anyway, BYOP: never heard a single tune by them.

i've been thinking about it.
in this day and age, we are used to find music that is mindblowing and if it's not, it's considered shit even if it's really good but not fucking amazing. it's so weird. kinda like all those health threads, they are an ok band that's not too original and most people were like "they are the best" or "they are not good", completely polarized. |
Well, Danny put it best than anyone on this thread. What's wrong with enjoying a not so original band making some music you can dance to etc? They might not be changing the world but then there are bands out there working hard at changing it, so be it.

I havent heard anything newer by them but the singles and videos were pretty good. But finding out how old they were was akin to the day i realised Wayne Rooney was younger than me and so id never play for England. But i definitely WOULD |

I think if they stuck to their playing style early on i would still like them. but the new album isnt that great at all, kinda gets annoying fast. Theyre so young too, i think they might make some good stuff in the future.

I like that first album enough, but I haven't heard any of the new stuff - I'm not expecting anything mindblowing from them.
The only reason I know about them is because I caught the last 10 minutes of them before SY in asheville a couple of years ago. They are a fun, high-energy live band and totally trashed the stage. After that SY came out, and the age-difference became apparent. It was probably just the Rather Ripped material, but that was the most boring SY show I've ever seen. I'm never really opposed to hot punk girls. |

no! i dont think it is. the first byop thing was good, ok at the worst...... the new album is appaling, its awful, its transvision vamp for a download generation... its terrible.. and im glad to see so many others thinking my way.......... and marcos...... that markers comment was low! :-( |
I just see BYOP as another one of those generic female lead garage rock bands with a whole lot of annoying energy and fake quirkiness.

Is Paramour that band that does that really annoying song with the "twothreefour!" thing? Cause that's just awful. And I know I'm the one who defends the Breeders and Magik Markers by saying that just because something doesn't move you doesn't mean you can authoritatively say it's bad. And that's true most of the time. But whoever does that song is bad. It's like Ali and AJ, or Avril, or some other manufactured "rock" product. There is no art in their sound. Other than the art of making money.
