Since you asked for favorite in the singular, I'd have to say Einsturzende Neubauten.

Making a list of all the great bands that don't come from just two of the worlds countries would be pretty tiring, actually.

Other than the dead c all of these are Australian. Just thought I'd mention it because usually it's New Zealanders getting mistaken for Australians. If you haven't heard Menstruation Sisters check them out. Its Oren Ambarchi on drums, Nick who also played in Phlegm on guitar and another guy named Brendan on bass. They played for the first time in 6 years about a month ago and it was nuts.

all my favorite bands are 'merican!

GrungeMonkey 05.23.2008 11:35 AM

look at all these people who know all these bands!!!

arent they so hip!

gualbert 05.23.2008 11:54 AM

Negazione - Italy

atari 2600 05.23.2008 12:00 PM

included bands with mixed membership...

OOIOO
The Original Silence (some European members)
Paal-Nilssen Love Townhouse Orchestra
Afrirampo
Melt-Banana
Zu
Ruins
Peter Brotzman, et al.
Crystal Castles
Einsturzende Neubauten
Cowboy Junkies
The Ex

Although I like her music, Bjork is not really a band, well, properly anyway. An aside, but Neil Young was born in Canada, of course.

sort-of active?
Kraftwerk
The Thing

not-so-active
AC/DC
My Bloody Valentine (Irish members and British members/soon to be active)
Steppenwolf
INXS
Boredoms
Can
Foetus
KUKL
Amon Duul II
The Sugarcubes
The Scientists
Gong
Neu!
Rush

So, disqualifying any groups with members from several different countries and bands who have some members from the U.S. or U.K., and for the purposes of answering the topic question, my favorite current band is the wholly Japanese OOIOO. (I'm supposing that this P-We project is going to still continue to make records).
And my favorite one that has clearly already peaked is the entirely Australian INXS. (I refuse to acknowledge the new version).

MellySingsDoom 05.23.2008 12:48 PM

Konono No. 1 (Democratic Republic of Congo)
Getachew Mekuriya (Ethiopia)
Tinariwen (Saharan Africa - they're nomads, so live all over the place).
Jennifer Gentle (Italy)
Celtic Frost (Switzerland)
Monarch (France)
Negura Bunget (Romania)
