hypnosis

has anyone ever been hypnotised? and i am not talking about the fareground type thing were they make you eat a raw onion but you think its an apple.

i was thinking about being hypnotised but i am kind of scared about it. so share any experiences please.

blunderbuss 05.30.2008 06:35 AM

i was supposed to have been hypnotised once, but i can't say whether i was or not. when it was done i was totally aware of my surroundings and what i was thinking, which i hadn't expected to be the case. i seemed to be concentrating too much on being hypnotised for me to have actually have been hypnotised. does that make sense?

jon boy 05.30.2008 06:41 AM

mr ventriloquists dummy says yes.

yes i have, my uncle's a hypnotherapist and he hypnotised me once about 10 years ago, it was quite a pleasant experience. he lives in leeds actually.
what kind of thing are you thinking of doing?

jon boy 05.30.2008 07:36 AM

not really hypnotherapy but i am just curious about what it entails and what i would say etc. did you get any on tape? i hear that they have to tape it so that they can prove they didnt do anything while you are under. maybe i could use it in some music? thats not while i am doing it though.

what occured from yours?

Toilet & Bowels 05.30.2008 12:12 PM

he's never said anything to me about recording his sessions, so i'm not sure about that. when he hypnotised me i was still totally aware of what was going on it's not like your brain just switches off and you turn into a zombie.
it was just a sort of basic relaxtion thing he did with me, it was a pretty incredible experience though, he told me to imagine that i was flying and that i could feel the breeze blowing on my face and even though i knew i was sitting on a chair in my bedroom i felt like i was flying and that i could feel the breeze.

jon boy 05.30.2008 12:14 PM

i'm there dude, as the americans would say.

Rob Instigator 05.30.2008 12:18 PM

hypnosis is a crock of shit really.
the only people that can be "hypnotized' are the ones whose minds are open and willing to be "hypnotized"

in other words, only people who will do whatever is told of them are actually "hypnotised"

every single person I have ever talked to, who has been "successfully" hypnotized has told me that they knew exactly what they were doing and why and that they were in control the whole time, and JUST GOING ALONG WITH THE SUGGESTIONS

dig?

yeah, that's kind of how it works.

imagine if you went to the doctor and he proscribed you some medicine and then you refused to take it just to prove you were in control of the situation, or alternatively imagine if you took the medicine and then told everyone that doctors are a crock of shit because the medicine they give you only works if you take it

Toilet & Bowels 05.30.2008 12:39 PM

and besides, the fact that they went along with the suggestions just proves that it works anyway. that's all hypnosis is, suggestion. it isn't magic.

sarramkrop 06.01.2008 08:23 AM

Can you have someone self-hypnotising themselves?

Toilet & Bowels 06.01.2008 11:07 AM

yes

blunderbuss 06.04.2008 07:17 AM

Alternative Therapies
BBC1, Thu 5 Jun, 1:35 am - 2:35 am
Hypnotherapy:
Kathy Sykes, professor of Science at Bristol University, examines alternative therapies in Europe and the US. Half a million people in England use hypnotherapy a year.

jimbrim 06.04.2008 07:24 AM

is it possible to get hypnotised in order to quit something, ie- fags? my dad's friend told me he quit due to hypnosis, they apperently told him that the next cigerette he smoked would taste of dogshit. i thought he was lying to be honest.

Toilet & Bowels 06.04.2008 07:53 AM

my uncle told me that getting people to quit smoking is a fairly simple procedure and a lot of the people he's helped quit have refered friends to him

jon boy 06.04.2008 07:54 AM

thats an interesting concept. i know a few people who could really benefit from that, myself included.

Toilet & Bowels 06.04.2008 07:58 AM

if you want i can put you in touch if you're still in leeds

not for very much longer sorry. i wonder if it would work for other types of addiction? the ones where a physical dependency is not an option.

Toilet & Bowels 06.04.2008 08:04 AM

quite probably, i've been meaning to give him a call, i'll ask him about it. i don't know what other kind of addictions he may have seen people about, do you mean things like gambling addictions etc?

yes gambling or cocaine addiction. anything where physical depedency is not an issue.

Toilet & Bowels 06.04.2008 08:47 AM

i guess that would be easier than something with a physical addiction, but i'll ask

Phlegmscope 06.04.2008 09:05 AM

would it be possible to use hypnosis to stop the chronic tendency to procrastinate. This year's been fucking horrible, and I'm starting to get worried if this a permanent state, because it surely looks like that right now.

jon boy 06.04.2008 09:33 AM

its an interesting subject. i wonder if you could errase memories ala eternal sunshine of the spotless mind.

sarramkrop 06.04.2008 09:50 AM

I don't think erasing memories is something that is achievable only by hypnosis. There's a specific brain process that can be prompted by cartain psychotherapy practices too and without losing apparent or real consciousness. I have some books on the subject at home. Interesting stuff to read.

Rob Instigator 06.04.2008 10:39 AM

hypnosis is like a placebo. it only works if you fool yoursel finto thinking it works.
people that use it to quit smoking have to go get steady re-inforcements. it is like chiropractic medicine, it cures nothing, but will ease pain and suffering temporarily, until you screw your back out again.

i think that's only true if you see an unscrupulous or incompentant therapist

luisxvi 06.05.2008 08:00 AM

I would like to be hypnotised but I would be scared I would have another personality or something.
