How do you deal with people who spout off extreme views and you have to work closely with them? Its been a bit of an annoyance of mine when people do this.

Please this is not a thread for people to post sweeping comments eetc.

Thank god I am lucky enough not to share an office with other people.

I hate when people do this.

I hate it when people do this and you're expected to respond sympathetically.

I remember working with a guy who told me we should at least be thankful that the guy taking over the company i was working for at the time (who was American) wasn't a 'paki'. He then just looked at me, clearly waiting for me to say something like 'totally', in response. I remember sort of just going, 'mmm' quite vaguely, but which I think he read as a 'yes, I agree'. I hated myself for ages after that for not having the guts to call him a wanker.

I hate the way arseholes always seem to want you to agree with them.

Yes thats the thing, they want/expect you to agree somehow and if you dont then your some kind of nutter. Either that or they are itching for an argument which is also annoying as hell.

They have this thing where they believe everything they say is simply common sense and to disagree is somehow either naive or just plain wrong.

The one I hate most is when you offer an alternative view and they respond, 'yeah, in an ideal world.' As though in an ideal world maybe we shouldn't hang murderers, but it isn't, so we have to. They have no logic to their argument, only passion. Pricks!

The worst people I chat to at work are generally the actors 'cause a lot of them are stuck up and talk in a kind of pompous, theatrical accent, even though they are not on stage. Get off it, man, you're not in a Shakespere play, you're just smoking a fag on the balcony with people who work in the same building! Twats.

I work with someone who is the master of making those short, self-containing statements which are impossible to reply to.

I also work with someone who makes flippant, sweeping comments and the logic behind them is always so abstract that it's impossible to understand how they've made the leap from one thing to the other, so they're impossible to reply to.

I seem to spend most of my time at work wondering how to get out of something that I agreed whole-heartedly with a minute ago (when I didn't know what was going on).

there is this guy in work, about mid to late 40s. he thinks im gay.. he calls my homohippy. girl hater. his boyfriend...all in fun, cuz ive long hair... he forgets im 33 years old and not fyucking 16..

he lashed out at me last week for no reason... totally got me hard by saying... "youre a waster, long haired druggie waster with no respect, grow up and get a haircut you bender" in front of everyone!!!! at the top of his voice!!!

i retorted by calling him an ignorant fool and that most gay men have short or shaved hair...like him.. then preceeded and asked him why he aint married and what the fuck is jhe going to thailand with a guy 20 years his junior... but its not my place to judge...

arrogant arsehole...by the way, he apologised to me today, said sorry and said he wouldnt hold MY comments AGAINST ME!!!!! i told him apology accepted but dont try and speak to me in any shape or form again......

people are fools sometimes!!!

oh yeah.... sidenote.. he also said "you only got this job because you got someone pregnant!!!!!"
