The Ever So Scary Horror Film Thread.

I like horror films. You like horror films. Let's have a horror film thread. We can talk about horror films in it.

Here's my overly considered top five horror films, just to get us all started.

1. Texas Chainsaw Massacre
2. Basket Case
3. Dawn of the Dead
4. Maniac
5. Nightmares in a Damaged Brain.

I'm loving this thread already!

Toilet & Bowels 06.17.2008 03:40 PM

what, no exorcist?!

luisxvi 06.17.2008 03:42 PM

Exorcist is not that scary, its ok but its not that good. I thought the Shining was scarier.

blunderbuss 06.17.2008 03:43 PM

I'm not generally all that fussed about horror films, but:

1. The Clive Barker one with Pinhead
2. Nightmare on Elm Street
3. Salem's Lot

Pookie 06.17.2008 03:43 PM

Psycho still scares the bejesus out of me.

demonrail666 06.17.2008 03:45 PM

Salem's lot, as blunderbus mentioned, scared the shit out of me the first time i saw it.

Great film. Again, more than a little scary.

I laughed when she started crawling down the stairs. Oh the masturbation scene was HILARIOUS.

Isn't that one of the deleted scenes? I presume it's been added to some versions?

✌➬ 06.17.2008 03:53 PM

Is it? Whatever still funny.

Toilet & Bowels 06.17.2008 03:55 PM

1. the exorcist
2. texas chainsaw massacre
3. audition
4. carnival of souls
5. the omen

Toilet & Bowels 06.17.2008 03:56 PM

i hate people who think the exorciost is funny

nicfit 06.17.2008 03:57 PM

young people have no perspective.

Agreed!

MellySingsDoom 06.17.2008 04:04 PM

"Last House On The Left". The first time I saw it round demonrail's, I felt truly uncomfortable.
"Combat Shock" - an incredible movie. Check out the fully uncut version, called "American Nightmares"
"Salo" - one of Pasolini's finest moments.
"Rabid Dogs" - Genuinely an on-edge movie.
"Men Behind The Sun" - incredibly racist, but powerful nonetheless.

Rob Instigator 06.17.2008 04:10 PM

Night Of The Living Dead

is one of my faves.

I am a chicken shit when it comes to horror movies, residue from childhood I think.

That's a seriously great film all round! I love the whole "siege" aspect of it...I'd go so far to say that it's one of those films that really is ahead of it's time.

I used to have the colourised version of this. What a bizarre concept colourising was. They also did it to a lot of Laurel & Hardy films.

MellySingsDoom 06.17.2008 04:16 PM

...they should do it to "Plan 9 In Outer Space".

Toilet & Bowels 06.17.2008 04:38 PM

is A Handmaid's Tale any good?

MellySingsDoom 06.17.2008 04:44 PM

Not seen it, T & B. Who made that?

Not come across that one.

Combat Shock is incredible.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre

The Omen
Peeping Tom
Repulsion
The Car (even though it's rubbish)

mangajunky 06.17.2008 04:49 PM

luisxvi 06.17.2008 04:49 PM

dr666 - at the time that I was getting hold of loads of that stuff, it was the one film I figured that non-one would like at all - remember, this was the ers of "Women's Camp 119" et al. Until, of all people, my brother and his mate ranted on about it 3 Xmas's ago. I have it on DVD. D'you want to check it out?

Love this film.

MellySingsDoom 06.17.2008 04:52 PM

Pookie - oh my God, I was wearing the T-shirt of this film yesterday at work, and this new guy has lent me the soundtrack to this today! A seriously good film in all respects!

Awesome list. I could happily watch at least half of those once every day.

Haven't hears of Neither the Sand nor the Sea, though.

70s British was the way to go. Watched Inseminoid again this afternoon. What a corker

It was one of those films I saw as a child and for years had a vague recollection of it, but couldn't remember the title. Then I just happened to see it on TV one night.

Very much a film of its time and place.

NWRA 06.17.2008 04:56 PM

That psychedelic soundtrack is great too.

It's a shame that time has passed when you could see films like that on BBC2.

demonrail666 06.17.2008 04:58 PM

Yeah, Hammers at 1 in the morning on a saturday night. Happy days.

MellySingsDoom 06.17.2008 04:58 PM

Indeed, Pookster, which makes it all the better, in my dementia-ridden brain. A very good Brit counterpart to a lot of the better 60's/70's biker films... on an unrelated tip, are you into the films of Pete Walker ("Frightmare", "House of Whipcord")?

demon - I was speaking to a workmate of mine today about just this...talking of which, my brother spoilt me totally on my birthday with the 20-film set of the "Best of Hammer"...I feel a weekend session is in order!

Not heard of him.

demonrail666 06.17.2008 05:03 PM

I got the Pete Walker box set last year. Great stuff on there. Die Marianne Screaming is just bonkers. It's like about eight films at once.
