Smashing Pumpkins do something cool for a change- Gish Box Set, Gish Tour

Remember how we all got excited about a new pumpkins record last summer and were all horribly disappointed when corgan served us shitgeist ? Well it seems that even he is realizing how bad that was and is now falling back on one of his achievements from the past.

I fucking love Gish and always feel it was an underrated gem in their catalog. I really enjoyed that psychedelic feel alot of the tracks had with them. This was back when billy was taking acid and before he had an ego.(Maybe the acid is to blame for his seemingly god complex he carries around). Now it's 17 years old and Billy wants to celebrate it properly. I'd kill to hear the songs from gish done live.

From SP.com:
Does anyone else smell that in the air? Oh yeah, that's Gish!

SP.com has another small byte of information for you regarding your favorite first Smashing Pumpkins album: plans are currently underway that will lead to the eventual release of a pre-Gish/Gish box set!

What is to be included on here, no one knows for sure but it should be noted that its release is expected to coincide with the Gish tour sometime in 2008...

Expect more information as it becomes available.

2008 is so nineties.

MellySingsDoom 06.23.2008 12:09 PM

"Gish"? "Gash", more like...

Everyneurotic 06.23.2008 11:20 PM

i wasn't severly excited about zeitgeist, and only listened to it like 3 months ago a few days before seeing corgan and friends at a festival. wasn't a life affirming experience but a decent collection of tunes.

i made myself a gish deluxe edition some time ago.

Green Magnesium 06.24.2008 01:13 AM

Hooray. Gish is my favorite album of theirs (after Adore that is) and I will definitely pick this set up (but will skip the 'Gish Tour', ick).

I could honestly care less about anything they've done recently. I never even tried to listen to Zeitgeist all the way through. No matter how bad Corgan fucks up in the present, the first four albums (Gish --> Adore) will always be near and dear to my heart.

Cantankerous 06.24.2008 01:14 AM

oh dear.

i suppose d'arcy "i'm untalented and uncreative and bland so i have to put an apostrophe in my name" wretzky the crackhead wont' be making an appearance?

acousticrock87 06.24.2008 01:15 AM

Gish tour? Does that mean Iha and what's-her-face are going to be there? Sounds like another Corgan scam.

it would seem that darcy (no i will not spell it with an apostrophe) would be too busy hitting the pipe to try and play bass.

Green Magnesium 06.24.2008 01:22 AM

Damn girl ... did she kill your parents for crack money or something? :)

Cantankerous 06.24.2008 01:24 AM

that didn't make any sense.
"did she kidnap them and sell them into white slavery for crack money?" would have been the appropriate quip.

and the answer to that
is yes.

Green Magnesium 06.24.2008 01:38 AM

I was implying in my sleepy state that she killed them and then ROBBED their corpses.

I am glad you set the record straight for everybody... but big D could have easily killed them you know. At least this way you have the slim chance of seeing them alive again one day :)

Cantankerous 06.24.2008 01:42 AM

actually she sold them to the circus.

viewtiful_alan 06.24.2008 01:45 AM

My recollection of Gish is that it was merely meh... not too good, but definitley not bvad, just kind of there.

acousticrock87 06.24.2008 01:49 AM

I'm not sure I've heard it as a whole, just songs from it. I kind of just tack my opinion of Siamese Dream to it, which is that it's pretty good, has a very developed (if not unoriginal) sound to it, but overrated. Mellon Collie is 1000x better, and no Pumpkins fan will admit it.

I agree 100%. Mellon collie is their classic, if a little over indulgent.
Siamese Dream isn't consistently great as it is made out to be.

maybe if i was in my mid thirties-early fourties and hated everything sonic youth has done since say, the late 80's early 90's i could appreciate it.

im sure it boils down to money...either that are alot of these older bands are dealing with serious mid-life crisis issues.

I thought the Daydream Nation show was one of the best concerts I've been to. Weird maybe, but it was great. I've only seen like two of those songs live before, and it was great to finally see some favorites.

Heterophobic?

ni'k 06.24.2008 03:48 PM

no, not that even. i can't explain it. he's like the epitome of american alterna rock narcissism

PAULYBEE2656 06.24.2008 04:27 PM

gish can have the negative redux treatment.. just rerelease side one and fuck the rest!

Everyneurotic 06.24.2008 04:52 PM

when i saw them, i wanted them to play at least one song from gish but they didn't.

o well, hopefully mr corgan will release a single disc version of mellon colie like he should have done originally next.

Cantankerous 06.26.2008 09:35 PM

for all the hatred i have for them

i do enjoy the song bullet with butterfly wings

acousticrock87 06.26.2008 09:39 PM

Really? That's one song I had a really hard time liking. Not as hard as fucking 1979, though.

Cantankerous 06.26.2008 09:40 PM

i love the beginning of it, the riff and all
and the drum bits
and then how it just explodes

acousticrock87 06.26.2008 09:44 PM

I have a vague memory of learning to play it with my roomate. And neither of us liked it. Not sure why we even bothered. I like Zero a lot more.

Cantankerous 06.26.2008 09:46 PM

ehhhhhhh.

i can't decide if darcy or melissa auf der maur is hotter

Cantankerous 06.26.2008 09:48 PM

yeah okay i totally just decided

VS.

samuel 06.26.2008 09:50 PM

It would be cool if they recorded their Caberet Metro performance in 1988. There It Goes may be my favorite Smashing Pumpkins' song.

Also,
I'd always choose D'arcy. Even with that photo.

Cantankerous 06.26.2008 09:54 PM

it's a shame that she started doing crack
she'll probably never learn to play bass properly now

based upon these photos i choose darcy:

samuel 06.26.2008 09:56 PM

I heard, from probably unreliable sources, that she's doing fine in Texas. Who knows. She's definitely hot in those pictures.

Everyneurotic 06.26.2008 10:43 PM

melissa is so hot.

and "bullet..." was the first song i thought "they're not that bad!"

acousticrock87 06.27.2008 12:00 AM

Melissa. Period.

Though that one is pretty hot.

Really? With retarded goth makeup and all?

(And that's with me having a HUGE soft spot for retarded goth makeup)

acousticrock87 06.27.2008 12:17 AM

I wouldn't call that goth at all, she just has a lot of eyeshadow. But I think the picture would look the same with or without it. Might just be the hair. (I meant the picture I linked to, not the one above--maybe that's what you thought I meant?)

i was excited when meloncollie came out and was sorely disappointed, corgan can go fuck him self and maybe try something new rather than try and live some sort of halcyon days. i saw them at their height with siamese that was enough, i will not blow my dough on going and see them play gish as good as the album was.

scott v 06.27.2008 10:49 AM

i'd have to say that Corgan is the most pretentious a-hole in the alterna mainstream rock scene, and the smashing pumpkins are a reflection of that wretched inner soul. go back and relive your 1994 lollapalooza dreams... bald-headed ratface.

Green Magnesium 06.27.2008 12:47 PM

I would never pay to see them live, but I will buy this upcoming Gish box.

When I was a child and Siamese Dream came out I thought the band was scary. The only one who didn't freak me out was Jimmy Chamberlain.
