The Blair Witch Project

Scared the shit out of me and my pops when we went to see it in its underground days.

had a nice website too.

terriblecanyons 07.03.2008 08:22 PM

It doesn't really get all that interesting til the end for me.
And the sequels were kinda disappointing.

Danny Himself 07.03.2008 08:25 PM

The ending scene was delightfully morbid but the rest of it was pretty boring.

Sonic Youth 37 07.03.2008 08:26 PM

This movie fooled a lot of people...unfortunately, I never got the chance to be "had" by it. I only saw it after I knew it was completely fake.

o'connor 07.03.2008 08:30 PM

that's pretty random there man. movie was alright.

EMMAh 07.03.2008 09:13 PM

It only freaked me out when I was a kid and I hadn't even seen it. It's actually pretty funny (well I think it is). I carved the little symbol in the ground in this trail, and ended up scaring the shit out of myself every time I'd see it, thinking there were ghosts around. I'd have to go down the trail all the time and I'd just run by the thing.

That all find of passed and was forgotten about and I actually saw the movie for the first time. Pretty disappointing.

Everyneurotic 07.03.2008 10:39 PM

i thought it was a pretty awesome concept but then i saw it, a dullfest.

i think that movie was the reason i decided to study marketing in college.

acousticrock87 07.03.2008 11:10 PM

Yeah, very well marketed. The movie wasn't bad, but it's a contextual film.

terriblecanyons 07.03.2008 11:13 PM

The end was kinda confusing. Anyone care to clear up exactly what went on there? I know about the whole stand in the corner blah blah but it's still fairly vague to me.

acousticrock87 07.03.2008 11:15 PM

Spoiler: I'm pretty sure they all die.

viewtiful_alan 07.03.2008 11:15 PM

I loved it.
I had to suspend my brain for a little while so I could get caught up in the facade of actuality that movie tried to keep up.

atsonicpark 07.04.2008 02:14 AM

I didn't really think there was anything good about it. Even the "this is a documentary!!!" concept was similiar to stuff like Cannibal Holocaust. I thougth it was lame then, and it's really lame now. So many people saw it the day it came out and were all disappointed. It could have been good, and in fact, I think it was a BRILLIANT film simply from a marketing standpoint -- but the actors and the, uh, "plot" was terrible.

"duh, I kicked dat map we didn't need dat map."

Tokolosh 07.04.2008 02:25 AM

The fact that it grossed something like $260.000 worldwide and only cost around $50.000 to make,
makes it the most successful independent movie ever. I enjoyed the boredom you all speak of.

atsonicpark 07.04.2008 02:28 AM

If you like boring movies that are still awesome, watch Eli, Eli, Lema, Sabachtani?

Tokolosh 07.04.2008 02:52 AM

Nothing? Speak for yourself Mr.
What I'm trying to say is that if it hadn't been filmed in that way, it wouldn't have had the effect it did.
You also have to take into consideration that the film doesn't stand alone.
The website, film, and book are all intertwined.

atsonicpark 07.04.2008 02:56 AM

Nothing? Eh? I said "watch Eli Eli Lema Sabachtani?"

Also, a film should stand on its own. I always heard this shit about Donnie Darko -- "YEAH IT'S A DECENT FILM BUT YOU REALLY HAVE TO READ THE WEBSITE AND STUFF TO LIKE IT." Sure, a website and a book and a documentary and whatever else can enhance your likings of a film -- but it shouldn't be something that's required in order to enjoy something... a good film should stand on its own.

Tokolosh 07.04.2008 03:04 AM

It would help if you actually wrote it down in your previous post.
Haven't seen it, but I did watch A Cruel Picture you mentioned in the other thread. Not bad at all.
I'm not interested in discussing DD.

atsonicpark 07.04.2008 03:08 AM

I did write it down.

In fact, I will copy the post and paste it (can you really not see that purple text?):
If you like boring movies that are still awesome, watch Eli, Eli, Lema, Sabachtani?

Tokolosh 07.04.2008 03:10 AM

Smartass.

atsonicpark 07.04.2008 03:11 AM

How am I smartass?

I copy and pasted the EXACT message again, the one you said was blank. It's just purple text! It shows up perfectly on my screen... hmm.

I'm just confused.

Tokolosh 07.04.2008 03:34 AM

Must be going blind...
I'll be sure to look into it.
If you like weird films and haven't seen Thundercrack!, do so.

Ohhh, netflixing it now.

That's what I thought too.

atsonicpark 07.04.2008 03:49 AM

that reminds me, I saw a movie that was made in the 80's with an identical ending to blair witch...

Can't remember the title at all, it's on the tip of my tongue but yeah...

I'm not saying the makers of blair witch ripped it off, though. And even if they did, it's an interesting ending.

ZEROpumpkins 07.04.2008 04:06 AM

And it's most certainly on DVD, given that my sister has it.

atsonicpark 07.04.2008 04:14 AM

your sister has an actual non-bootleg copy of THUNDERCRACK?

I really want to find dennis hopper's the last movie somewhere.. bootleg or not.. not paying $30 for a vhs i'm afraid.

Tokolosh 07.04.2008 04:16 AM

...

atsonicpark 07.04.2008 04:21 AM

ohh thx

ZEROpumpkins 07.04.2008 04:49 AM

Oh Thundercrack lol. I thought you guys were still talking about Blair Witch.

atsonicpark 07.04.2008 05:18 AM

no, obviously you can probably get that on dvd for a penny. actually, i bet people will pay you to take it off their hands.

demonrail666 07.04.2008 08:41 AM

I love the first BWP. Definitely one of my fave horror films of the past ten years. I sometimes wonder if, not being American, I wasn't so open to finding the characters as irritating as I've heard quite a few US viewers mention.

I never watched it thinking it was real (I can't honestly see how anybody could, even before it was 'outed'). Even so, it did genuinely scare me in certain scenes (the tent sequence, for example).

Whatever people think of it, it's certainly a lot better than anything else coming out of the US in the name of horror at the moment.

The sequels were dreadful though.

nicfit 07.04.2008 08:58 AM

derailed666, try "Them" , it's nice.

sarramkrop 07.04.2008 09:03 AM

Sorry to hijack this thread a little, I just wanted to ask if anyone tests how scary a horror movie is for them by watching it by themselves in the middle of the night. This is one those movies that I've tested this way, and it still didn't do it till the end scene.

nicfit 07.04.2008 09:10 AM

I usually watch most horror movies (not the "pop-corn horror" like modern crappy remakes with boobs and asses allover) by myself with comfy headphones.

batreleaser 07.04.2008 09:18 AM

when i was 12 it scared me
