Depressing Music
 

Isn't Jamiroqui infinitely more depressing than Joy Division simply because his music evokes absolutely nothing when listened to?

my little sister loves cute is what we aim for. they're ultimately, after a few listens, depressing.

And I thought this was going to be a discussion about great bands like Slint, Sunny Day Real Estate and Codeine.

It's the same reason why I don't find Diamanda Galas depressing at all, but rather she makes me want to enjoy life and listen to her more.

I saw the second most depressing album of all time live recently, Lou Reed's Berlin. (Pink Floyd's final cut has to swoop in to claim first place.)

seeing Sex Pistols yesterday was very very depressing. 4 old twats.

I don't really find any music depressing. Just like I don't find any music scary or threatening.

that being said, "when the tygers broke free" is rather lovely and depressing at the same time.

I find The Beatles' Let it Be weirdly depressing. The sound of a great band disintegrating before your ears, but with absolute dignity throughout (Lennon's rather sly between song skits aside).

Elliot and Conor are depressing. I also find Slint mildly depressing.

Big Star's Sister Lovers is a straight up dose of 100% depression. And brilliant!

i don't agree with jamiroquai's thing, they make me want to stab random people and steal babies.

Jamiroquai makes me want to smoke as much pot as the person who is making me listening to it has so I can't hear it anymore.

i've got a friend who when we were younger was disturbed by the fact that i didn't like jamaroquai and every time the subject of music came up he would tell anyone who would listen that i didn't even like jamaroqui

Joy Division's "In A Lonely Place" - essentially a suicide note, and such a moving song to me that I still can't listen to it objectively.

Radiohead - nearly half of their songs are depressing, 'cause of Yorke's voice, I suppose.

Arab Strap are probably the most depressing band i've heard.

New Dawn Fades is also quite depressing. "I've walked on water, ran through fire. Can't seem to feel it anymore"

new dawn fades is one of the only joy divison songs i would say that is amazing.

Nine Inch Nails' Downward Spiral is depressing, especially Hurt, though it's a beautiful song !

What I meant was that the mood of the music won't affect me ie. depressing music won't make me depressed.

For me the three most depressing albums I've heard go as follows:

3) slint - spiderland
2) lou reed - berlin
1)pink floyd - the final cu(n)t
