Gun Ownership

More and more of my friends, people I thought were sane and had good sense, are buying firearms for "personal protection." I have two friends in Florida who rarely leave the house without packing their pistols. And my wife is actually leaning in their direction and telling me it might not be a bad idea because the world is "becoming so dangerous."

People, what the fuck is going on? Why are we all arming ourselves? I have the utmost respect for hunters and even gun collectors to buy and own guns. I was an expert marksman in the Air Force, and I even enjoy firing guns at a target range. But I don't get the idea of arming ourselves to leave the house like some pathetic version of Dirty Harry.

Well, w/ Congress trying to repeal the 2nd Amendment everyday, it's more a case of having to do it before it's too late. Look, the reason the 2nd Amendment exists is for the right of the American citizen to protect themselves, not just from everyday threats, but from tyrannical governments. Hence the one we have in place today. Remember, Nazi's passed anti-gun laws to disarm the people, & we all know how that turned out.

sarramkrop 07.16.2008 08:51 AM

They're out to get you, gmku.

floatingslowly 07.16.2008 08:52 AM

guns are for suckers.

my hands are deadly weapons.

gmku 07.16.2008 09:07 AM

Actually the 2nd ammendment exists to arm a militia. That's a common misinterpretation of the intent, unfortunately.

Personally, I think it's ridiculous, though I think I've made it clear already. I don't think the world is any more dangerous than it was 50 years ago, and in some ways is even safer.

In any case, I refuse to participate in the madness.

sarramkrop 07.16.2008 09:09 AM

Why have you got someone pointing a gun in your avatar, then?

oh, snap!

gmku 07.16.2008 09:19 AM

Because I'm a huge freaking fan of the latest Bond movie.

Whether I'm a fan of a movie has nothing to do with my position on gun ownership.

Let's not confuse fantasy with real life, okay? SNAP!

I don't need a gun I just stare the evil doers down.

gmku 07.16.2008 09:30 AM

Word.

The thing is, the violence that most threatens us is so random. That bullet that cuts you down is more likely to come out of nowhere than in some high noon shootout scenario between you and a bad guy. There's not going to be time to react to pull your own weapon in most cases.

Yeah, I know people "feel" safer when they're armed, but I think this is so delusional. They're really no safer than anybody else.

Porky, you really are the master of Google images this morning.

sarramkrop 07.16.2008 09:33 AM

gmku 07.16.2008 09:34 AM

I guess Porky's point is that our fascination with firearms is pervasive in our culture, as evidenced in a wide proliferation of images that glorify them.

I am aware of how the 2nd Amendment is structured, to regulate & maintain a militia, but when the government is studying every way to put you in databases, & are willing to carry out terror attacks (9/11 WAS an Inside Job), I severely doubt the world is safer than you think.

You sound as paranoid as everyone else I know. I feel like I'm living in a world of pod people.

gmku 07.16.2008 09:40 AM

Girlgun, please check in... . You're needed at headquarters, sweetheart.

I have this book by the way. I love the blurb "108 pounds of dynamite."

Well, you can call me paranoid all you like, but the fact is there ARE elitists out there who would rather see you exterminated than think of you as an actual human being w/ the right to Life, Liberty, & the Pursuit of Happiness.

Do some research on Bilderberg, Council on Foreign Relations, & Trilateral Commission & it becomes quite clear what their global agenda is. Depopulation, Free Speech zones, FEMA Camps, & ultimately a New World Order. Where a small appointed few will run the world. A goal all tyrants have lusted after.

Violence rules!
Violence rules, guns are cool and we've got guns, in our school!
20 people livin' on a desert isle
They're all friendly they all smile
Then the food supply gets too low
20 people 10 gotta go
Violence rules, guns are cool and we've got guns, in our school
1,000 people gather in the streets of Manhattan
The lights go out guess what happens?
It's time to steal, it's time to shoot!
It's time to rob... taste my boot!
Violence rules!

Sounds like a mission for Bond. Somebody call MI-6. Quick! Before Bilderberg takes over the world!

Funny that you mention MI-6, many an agent & past intelligence higher-ups have all come forward & said, that not only 9/11, but 7/7 was an inside job.

gmku 07.16.2008 11:57 AM

Okay, sure. So you're saying we need to overthrow the Bush administration by force. Sign me up!
