is there any truth in the thing i just read about re-issue of songs about fucking?

or have i been duped

GrungeMonkey 07.17.2008 08:09 AM

what have you read, my friend?

gmku 07.17.2008 08:28 AM

Yes, it's true. Touch & Go recently reissued it on vinyl.

Derek 07.17.2008 08:55 AM

every CD version i've seen of that album has been horribly overpriced

gmku 07.17.2008 08:57 AM

But a new LP reissue is under 9 bucks.

Ok, the 20th anniversary was actually last year, but Albini was too busy.
It's going to be the usual affair: bonus tracks, rarities, unreleased demos etc, double album.
It's coming out on 8th August.

from drownedinsound.com. wha dya reckon?

gmku 07.17.2008 09:35 AM

Sounds like much ado about nothing to me, but if you're really into the album, I guess it's good news, no?

Green Magnesium 07.17.2008 10:36 AM

I've never owned this one. Provided the "remaster" isn't overly-loud and super-compressed, I'll pick it up. So many "remasters" actually do damage to the music so I'll be waiting for reviews of this before I spend any money.

demonrail666 07.17.2008 10:41 AM

Not wanting to rain on anybody's parade but SaF has to be one of the most dated albums I can think of. I can barely listen to it these days. Rather than reissuing it, Albini should've left it to RIP.

greedrex 07.17.2008 10:41 AM

i wouldn't get this on CD. Sounds horrible; even with a remaster which often sounds even worse for a whole the stupid compression.

anyways, get the LP, sounds great on wax, so does any Big Black LP/EP
collect'em all
great artwork!

MellySingsDoom 07.17.2008 10:45 AM

^^^Demonrail is channelling the spirit of Corgan as part of his forthcoming solo album material (working title: "Don't Yell 'Freebird' ").

pbradley 07.17.2008 10:55 AM

Yeah, this "bonus tracks, rarities, unreleased demos etc, double album" doesn't make sense with Songs About Fucking.

PAULYBEE2656 07.17.2008 10:56 AM

just rerelease it with the volume doubled...thats all i ask of you mr albini... thats it... turn it up to 11!

atsonicpark 07.17.2008 11:13 AM

yeah my cd version is reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally quiet.

gualbert 07.17.2008 11:19 AM

"he's a whore" is a lame song btw.

It isn't Billy Corgan, it's Sinead Oconnor.

atsonicpark 07.17.2008 11:25 AM

he's a whore rules, cheap trick rules, and big black's cover is awesome. Almost as good as rapeman's cover of just got paid.

demonrail666 07.17.2008 11:29 AM

I actually think that if Albini was gonna celebrate the anniversary of any BB album, it should've been Atomizer. By the time SaF came out, everyone sort of knew what the deal was. Atomizer was the really important one.

atsonicpark 07.17.2008 11:40 AM

I can't see Albini celebrating anything.

atsonicpark 07.17.2008 11:41 AM

But who knows...

COMING SOON: THE ENTIRE BIG BLACK DISCOGRAPHY ON BLU-RAY!!!!!! FEATURING RARE LIVE VIDEOS WITH COMMENTARY FROM STEVE ALBINI!!!!!!!

Hey, it could happen. I mean, even Jandek has a fucking DVD (not the documentary, a DVD released through Corwood).

I guess it's the only BB song where Albini "sings" , and obviously he can't.
He can talk and yell , or a mix of both , and he does it in a great way , but singing is not for him imo.

atsonicpark 07.17.2008 12:24 PM

Never noticed... Voices or the way people sing a song has rarely, if ever, gotten in the way of my enjoyment of a song. I always hear people say that about Joy Divison.. that Ian had such a shitty voice and sounded ridiculous... I've never noticed that he was a bad singer. I guess it just doesn't fit my criteria of calling a song good or bad. Ah well.

Derek 07.17.2008 12:30 PM

Yeah same, vocals are the least thing I notice. I can listen to a band even if the vocals are awful.
