I like Aliens a lot too, but it's Alien 3 that wins it for me - good story, supremely atmospheric film.

the first alien remains unsurpassable in its reframing of science fiction myths: only a year after star wars? and no princesses, no fucking magicians, no superscience, only working stiffs being fucked over by "the company".

I haven't seen any of the Alien movies.

Alien. Brilliant. Kind of not-so-brilliant nowadays, but still one of my top 10 favorite movies of all time.

On a side note, Alien vs. Predator (PC, not SNES) was a kick-ass game. So was the second one.

I voted the first because when I saw it I was quite young and it was great. I had an alien toy as well that squirted water from its smaller mouth.

For me it's all about the second one. However, I do love the orginal Alien and Alien 3 was cool too. Resurrection was pretty lame and Alien vs Predator was just a sad attempt to milk a few more dollars out of two dead franchises.

I went with Alien but Aliens is right up there with it.

The first two were really good. Y+The third one was ok. The last one sucked. Winona Ryder cannot act worth a damn. She should just become a nude model and cut out all the acting crap. No one cares what she says as long as she shows off her hot body. Anyone with me?

Too bad that'll never happen since her contract has an anti-nudity clause...

But fuck you anyway, Winona Ryder rocks.

first is best...ridley scott...young sigourney in her underwear...the classic operating table scene...harry dean stanton...yaphet kotto...cool homages to 2001...more patient development of suspense...a classic thriller...lots of atmosphere...riskier dialogue...it's a '70s movie

the second is a good action movie & a great sci-fi action movie...sigourney's ripley-as-badass...reiser as detestable villian...breakout for paxton from chet in hughes' weird science letdown...plentiful great special effects...spawned a good arcade machine & some cool videogames...early james cameron vehicle coming off The Terminator

The first one has the suspense and fear.
The second one is all about action.

There's a whole youth subculture here in Singapore that's obssesed with the whole biomechnical aesthetic. 2-feet high life-like Alien dolls, hr giger posters and paintings, the works.

I'm surprised a the votes for 'Alien vs Predator' - we had to stop watching after forty five minutes of derisive laughter and tutting! What qualities did we miss, if any? Or are the AvP votes a cheeky bit of fun?

I doubt you missed anything. Maybe its appeal lies in the cheesy action horror cliches. Like something Udo Kier would act in.

i like the first three movies but ressurection, despite brad duriff being in it, was pretty bad.

So anyone who sees the preview knows they all get trapped in a tomb led by an over zealous explorer. The aliens breed through these folks. In this Tomb, the aliens and predators fight each other...I guess the predators like the challenge. The lead girl is eventually the only one left (or at least the only one that is still featured in the action). She either saves the life of a predator or just flat out kills an alien (either way she kills an alien) and the predator gives her some kind of marking (on the face I believe with the red-hot claw) that they use to denote kills...some kind of hunter thing. Then the two go on a hunt and kill aliens. The one predator dies I think, then a whole shitlod of predators show up but they see the mark and leave the woman alone. All hell breaks loose, but she escapes and the place is destroyed. They may not be accurate, but even it it is, it's not a good movie. It's total cheese.

I really liked alien ressurectgion. it went into some severely warped sci-fi territory, with time lapsing, cloning, the idea of consciousness embedded, the whole thing was kick ass.

Seeing that you're obviously the biggest admirer of H. R. on the board, I was wondering if you know about this piece Giger made.
