battles
i listened to the next and it impressed me that to explore the range meant that the music became more so than i expected or anticipated.
on reflection i shouldnt have been surprised because they forewarned of the next in the last. battles by name battles in replixa |
what the bloody hell are you talking about?
whothefuckareyou
Did I miss something, or are we stuck in June 2007?
haha... I've listened to battles since that first ep came out. And they're uhm pretty good. Not the best songwriters in the world but the drummer is good.
you always miss something gumk
haha.
i'm pos-repping you for ridiculousness.
Well, I didn't miss the new LP. Which, um, came out A WHOLE YEAR AGO! Who exactly is MISSING something?
Battles hell yeah.

Ironically, today was the first time I actually heard Mirrored, I bought it on LP and it arrived this morning. As a 19 year old elitist hipster kid I realise I should have been proclaiming Mirrored as the best thing since sliced bread back in 2007, but I take my time on such things, sit out the rush and do it in my own time. Well, its no masterpiece for sure. The vocals are rediculous and distracting, but I get that its used more as extra instrument than traditional vocals. Musically theres some very interesting things happening on it, however I'd say HolyFuck, in my view a similar band, is the better band of the two.
The vocals are what make it interesting.
Their other releases = boring. |
I'm glad most people have moved on from them. I was getting tired of hearing teenage hipsters talking about listening to Mirrored stoned.
Also they are irritating with repeat listens. |
WoW MaN tHis WorKs So wEll sToNed
Yeah, they definitely wear off quickly. |
come on this is just a good band
we'll see if they can pull a longer career than Don Cab |
i know what max means when he says listen to the firse on the last two. its the only way. i didnt but max persuaded me and the rewards are obvious.
jeez the way you type is kinda confusing
i never get what you want to say i'm trying though |
Battles do my fucking head in. That is all.

The B & C EPs are really good too. I prefer them to Mirrored.
I predict an answer to this thread by ZEROPumpkin in between two and four hours.
hahaha
i just think they're terrible songwriters, their songs all sound really disconnected and off and not in a good way. it's obviously very "studio", their entire sound. Not saying they don't have chops, but something about their albums strikes me as kind of lifeless and uninteresting...

in reassessing i must admit that opposite to my earlier post i now in fact agree with max inasmuch as to disagree with him would mean that i conradict my previous meaning. i think that theres a kinda ghostlike quality to the timbre and predilection to ambivalence. i dont know though. my opinion changes from minute to minute.
If they had a song as good as "Satisfaction," they would be perfect. But they do not.
aw jesus fucking christ battles again? i thought we decided that theyre a good band, but not great. the drumming is phenomenal and the ryhtyms are pretty great, but those fucking vocals, cant stand em. tonto is a fucking rad song though. theyre good, i like them. havnt listened to them in a while thoug. i wonder what tyondai's daddy anthony thinks of them?
As somebody else pointed out, I think Crumb was drunk when he made the OP. Cuz yeah he's about a year late and 20 bucks short.
Let's forgive and move on, shall we, people? |
