the dark knight
was fucking phenomenal. saw it in imax last night, and i have to say, it did not dissapoint, in fact i think it far surpassed its ton of hype. two words: heath ledger. wow, step away malcolm mcdowell, ledger's joker was a far more twisted and fucked up charachter than even alex from a clockwork orange. not to mention, the harvey dent twist was fucking fantastic (even though anyone who has ever been into comics saw it from the moment the guy said his name). im not going to spoil it for those who havnt seen it, but for those who have, they know what im talking about. i lvoe this movie. im seeing it again tonight

The leading man was in police custody for assaulting his mother and sister for the premier.

YOU DONT FUCK WITH A METHOD ACTOR |
I've never any intention to even go near an actor, let alone a method actor...
|
especially a method actor that is:
son of sarah connor and kyle reese escaped prisoner of war legendary musician crime fighting superhero/play boy dragon fighter serial killer cow boy JESUS future law enforcer |
So whats a method actor then? An actor that can play alot of roles? Woopey. Isn't that what they're supposed to do
|
Quote:
no you fucking idiot. a method actor is an actor who refused to break chrachter throughout the duration of the filming, off scene, on scene, whatever. they do this to completley get a sense of how the charachter thinks, feels, acts, responds, etc.. it can be dangerous sometimes, and it takes a shitload of commitment. generally, the best actors are method actors. marlon brando arguably started it, others are deniro, daniel day lewis (he is super intense about it, and incidentially hes the best actor alive), and now guys like bale, and ledger (well, not anymore obviously). anyways, i heard bale got arrested, buit he attacked his family? what the fuck. watchful protector my ass. |
i already said what happend
and he didnt just get arrested he walked into the cop station him self and then it all got sorted it was just family feud besides....its christian fucking bale. he can abuse who he wants |
hai guyz!
did u here jocker dided? |
I saw it last night as well. It was much better than I expected. The Joker completely stole the show.
It's an instant classic. It's really a shame that Heath Ledger's dead. His Joker ranks among the greatest film villains. |
thats what i was saying dude, he seriously could be the greatest film psychopath of all time. i was absolutley stunned by javier bardem's anton chigurhh in no country for old men, but ledger's joker wipes the floor with that. this type of movie brings back the memories of why we pay 10 bucks to go see the movies in the first place, excitement, drama, surprise, fear, turmoil, chaos, brilliant cintematography, and spectacular performances. i was psyched for this movie since the end of batman begins (i have been a comic book geek my entire life) to the point where i was destined for a letdown. but ill tell ya, i drove 2 hrs from cape cor to natick, skipped out of my math class early, and paid 12 bucks to watch it on imax with my brother and friend, and i feel nothing but satisfaction. ill probably see it again tonight
ive never liked christopher nolan either, memento was ok but it felt like nolan did all the flasy backwards shit just to hide what was otherwise a poor story, and the prestige just bored me. but fuck can this guy make a superhero movie. batman begins and the dark knight are more than just super hero movies, their part comics, part godfather, part heat, part arthouse, part horror, all brilliant. im rambling, but i havnt been psyched on a mainstream film like this in a while. and the fact that its not the fastest grossing film of all time gives me great hope that perhaps the world isnt made of complete idiots. bra-fucking-vo. |
It was an amazing movie. Had so much more plot than I exspected. And Ledger did a great job, it didn't seem like him at all.
Why so Serious? |
Nice that they could make such a fun little movie for everyone to enjoy.
I'm personally looking forward to Quantum of Solace. |
That looks great as well.
|
Yeah, I've seen some preview clips already. Looks even darker than CR. Takes off where CR stopped, plot wise, and apparently Bond goes rogue in this one.
I love the new direction they're taking the whole Bond thing. |
Batman was so fucking good. Like you all said, the joker stole the show. He actually made me smile.
|
Kids made fun of me for reading Batman comic books when I was a kid. I guess the joke's on them now, eh.
Wish I still had those comic books, though. They'd be worth a fortune. |
The biggest thing that got to me after leaving the theatres was it totally fucks with your expectations. Again, won't go into detail, but things happen in that movie you don't expect, and before going into the theatre you expect to see certain things and you get something else. "The Dark Knight" was a total mindfuck, but that's the great thing about it.
|
I'm trying to drag some people to see it ASAP.....I don't want to be "that guy" sitting by myself in the theatre saying, "fucking right" every 10 minutes to nobody in particular.
|
Batman has always been my favorite superhero mythology. I loved the Tim Burton movies when I was a kid, the cartoon, and the old TV show reruns.
It's just more interesting than Spiderman or Superman. |
I wonder if "The Dark Knight" will get criticism for thier refferences to the Bush administration.

I was reading somewhere a little while back that it's going to be a lot less "Romantic" than Casino Royal. |
Quote:
There are several ways that you could translate that. Batman spying on the whole city to try to catch the Joker, or Harvey Dent being entrusted to bring criminals to justice and becoming a non law abiding madman. |
Fuck yes, I saw it at midnight on the 18, opening showing. Goddamn righteous!!! Heath Ledger definitely stole the show, the Joker was absolutely mental. "I'll make this pencil... disappear."
I'm sort of bummed that Nolan hasn't even signed on for a third one yet, I hope they continue this new series. |
Batman himself is looked at as a man with too much influence, even though he's in a position where he's fighting crime, he's in a position where he doesn't have to answer to anyone. The movie also denounces anarchy and vigilantism for a flawed justice system/democracy.
|
Quote:
That would be a good thing. Though I understand Bond is partly motivated in this new one by revenge for Vesper's death--and that this in part sparks his rogue "misbehavior" to seek out the people responsible in ways that MI6 would rather he not. A lot of duty vs. personal tension. Maybe reading a lot into the clips but this is what I pick up. |
Quote:
It denounces the flawed justice system/democracy the most. They put all of their hopes into Harvey Dent, and look what happens. Look, the people vote to blow each other up. The only thing that the movie affirms is the ability of someone to step up and do the right thing. Of good to overcome evil, but in an anarchistic fashion, regardless of the rules. Which goes back to your Bush argument. |
seeing this movie soon, hoping it'll be better than the Tim Burton movies (which i love)
|
Normally i cannot be arsed with films At All. But the last Batman film was the last film i saw at the cinema and i loved it, so poor old Heath dying made me worry it would be encased in gold just cause he died soon after, but all the suggestions are its going to be well up to scratch, and i sincerely hope it is.
Roll on Saturday |
This movie shouldn't be criticized because of Bush, Bush should be criticized for trying to be like Batman. That cunt.
But anyways, yeah I loved the film, saw it twice already and want to see it a third time in Imax. Had been following it since Batman Begins ended, remember when they cast ledger two years ago and last summer when they were filming. I actually got to see and take a picture next to the building that was the opening scene in the film, the bank, when I was in Chicago for a short amount of time in august. Ledger was amazing..."you're NOT!? then why do you dress like him? shhhh shh shh" if you've seen it, you know what scene I'm referring to and how chilling it was. RIP dude. oh, and aaron eckart kind of...blew it out of the water as well! He did a great job, and the story they made for his character and the vision they went with was straight out of the fucking source material... oh was batman in this? he was good too... EDIT: btw how the fuck hasn't ROB posted about this film yet? |
Batman is the only superhero I have EVER cared about in my entire life. Yet I haven't seen this film. Because I don't like big crowds of people. So I'll see it soon.
|
I loved the Dark Knight
Seen it twice on the IMAX screen |

I just saw Bush saying "I'm Batman" in his moronic voice. Priceless. |
Quote:
You have to see it soon. Judging by all the awesome stuff you've recommended us on the forums, the Dark Knight will be right up your alley. |
"The thing about chaos is that its fair . "
Fuck , every time The Joker speaks time stands still and you cant lean in close enough . That intense performance was easliy the most convincing and the most delicately sane character in the whole flick . |

while drawing a very thin line between that and why it works. ---- best batman movie ever and i doubt i'll see a better movie this year. why? it's not a superhero movie. seriously, think about it. i never gave a rat's ass about the joker, i understood what was up with him, the complexity of the character, his relationship with batman, etc. but it always got on my tits his persona, the overblown happy guy bordering with dementia but not enough (want a real batman villian? bane; that's a fucked up villian, i though.) but now, holy shit, perfect joker, best joker ever, not just the acting but the character itself. he's a fucking monster, and harvey dent...i'll just say he was how he was because he was way too human. i still don't buy what's his face...mom assaulter who killed jared leto while talking about huey lewis and the news, but it didn't matter. a batman i didn't like worked perfectly. i really want to see it again. |
I want to see it again.
|
me too
|
The thing about the over the top cackling joker that you hate is that it was created in the 60s. Batman started in the 30s or early 40s I believe. And in Jokers first appearance, he was very dark and grimacing and smiled maybe once.
Chris Nolan knocks another one out of the fucking park as far as staying true to the source material. & btw, I never read the comics but after I saw batman begins I fucking wikipediad my ass off about batman lore. He was always my favorite superhero when I was a kid, because he didnt have powers and was just 'driven by will power'. I guess I forgot that over the years, I didn't even know I 'wanted' another batman movie.... guess thats what joel shumacher does to a 14 year old eh? |
personally I liked all the batman films except batman begins. Batman and Robin was terrible -- but it was funny and entertaining. Batman Begins, I thought, was just too long and boring and took itself too seriously and didn't have an exciting moment past a certain point. However, after seeing it, I was confident that the next movie would be amazing...
...I know a lot of people who hated Batman Begins who have seen this one and loved it too... so I'm really excited for this. Gonna wait for the crowds to die though, like I said. |
