al shabbray 08.10.2008 05:09 PM

lol

Glice 08.10.2008 05:11 PM

Weezer? First album - alright, second - great, third - dire, subsequently - average.

I'm stuck otherwise.

acousticrock87 08.10.2008 05:11 PM

Fugazi

Glice 08.10.2008 05:20 PM

Oooh - Can. Perfect.

*No, actually quite wrong, because they were alright then good then amazing then ok then good then piddling.

HECKLER SPRAY 08.10.2008 05:49 PM

yeah can are what this thread is made for

_slavo_ 08.11.2008 03:20 AM

I think Radiohead fit into this category pretty well.

Pablo Honey - ridiculously bad
The Bands - a bit better
OK Computer - a very good album
Kid A - masterpiece
Amnesiac - bag of shite
Hail To The Thief - bag of shite
In Rainbows - a bit better

I think Kid A through Hail To The Thief are identical, quality-wise. HttT is less cohesive, but that's about it.

Kid A/Amnesiac are even from the same session.

_slavo_ 08.11.2008 03:33 AM

Yes, but the good songs were obviously put onto the first one, making it one of the landmark albums of the early 2000's. Amnesiac just doesn't work.
For me, of course.

acousticrock87 08.11.2008 03:38 AM

It's all personal opinion, of course; the two CDs are clearly different in a lot of ways.

But the band explicitly said that they didn't treat Amnesiac as a B-Side. Granted, they probably would have claimed that anyway so the CD got respect, but I actually strongly prefer Amnesiac. I assume they picked the most focused songs for Kid A, the ones that fit together the best, because it does (except for National Anthem, which I've never thought should be on that). I just don't think the songs are qualitatively better or worse.

Ramones:
Ramones-Road to Ruin - good
Early 80s - worse
Too Tough to Die - better
After that - not so good

atsonicpark 08.11.2008 06:23 AM

Only on the sonic youth board would people try to honestly reply to a joke thread.

Derek 08.11.2008 07:39 AM

bands that were good then got worse then were average and then got good again and then went on a slow decline, reformed after a few years, got good again but then got bad and died

Rob Instigator 08.11.2008 08:28 AM

hilarious thread title

GrungeMonkey 08.11.2008 06:26 PM

i cant believe the number of replys this has got

acousticrock87 08.11.2008 06:34 PM

If I weren't bored enough to actually think about the thread title in a serious way (after chuckling at its true intent), I would not be here at all.

Spiritinthesky 08.13.2008 02:27 AM

ewwwwwwwww

SYRFox 08.13.2008 06:10 PM

I support you Spirit. I never found Coldplay to be as terrible as people say. It's not like they're geniuses or whatever. But they have well, not so bad singles, at least. They're not horrible terrible awful shit like Muse.
But again, sure not something I would listen to every day...

HECKLER SPRAY 08.13.2008 06:14 PM

[quote=SYRFox] Muse.

Mind your language, please !!!

Should I say "horrible prog based music surrounded by a throat-cutted pig voice" instead?

I agree. Particularly the first CD. Recently they've been getting worse, but their first CD was solid. The second one wasn't as good, but it was passable.

HECKLER SPRAY 08.13.2008 06:20 PM

Yeah, much better. Perfect. Thanks.
EDIT : Some swear words like Muse, Placebo, Bloc Party, Franz Ferdinand... Have to be banned from this board.

SYRFox 08.13.2008 06:30 PM

Franz Ferdinand are not so bad either. They certainly did not deserve the huge hype though. They were actually one of the first bands to get me into "indie rock", which lead me to more interesting things, so I bet I'm not really objective with them and they're shit actually. But I still got their albums and I'm not ashamed of it.

Now Bloc Party is really bad. They must have like one decent song and that's all. And they got even worse with their second album, and even worse with their single Flux. Blah.

acousticrock87 08.13.2008 06:33 PM

I have to strongly disagree about Placebo.

That word might come in handy. You should specify, "In the context of the band, may that word never be uttered". Then I would agree wholeheartedly.

I have hardly any opinion about Franz. I did get their first CD, but I only listened to it like once and never even bothered putting it on iTunes. They're not horrible but they're incredibly boring, I think.

HECKLER SPRAY 08.13.2008 06:45 PM

Obviously, I was kiddin'.
Those bands just bore to death.

acousticrock87 08.13.2008 06:48 PM

Actually, I recently met a very intelligent girl with very good taste in music and stuff and I was talking to her about random things, and it came up that she liked Franz Ferdinand. Then I had to stop and process it, and wonder if perhaps I had judged her wrong.

I suppose I dislike them afterall.

GrungeMonkey 08.14.2008 10:21 AM

I liked franz ferdinand's first record. Some cool riffs, smart lyrics, danceable... Not amazing, but good.

atsonicpark 08.14.2008 10:24 AM

Placebo?!?!

Yuck.

SuperCreep 08.14.2008 11:05 AM

Dinosaur Jr. if their next album sucks.

PAULYBEE2656 10.15.2008 02:48 PM

coldplay were never any good at anything ever.. and they did get worse.....

god awful band.....

PAULYBEE2656 10.15.2008 02:49 PM

as the proper answer to the question

interpol and the rapture are 2 that spring to mind.. tv on the radio maybe but iactually like dear scientist...

greedrex 10.15.2008 04:28 PM
