EMMAh 08.21.2008 01:09 PM

I start back at school sometime in early September.

I don't know which course I'm taking first.

gmku 08.21.2008 02:26 PM

Here's my fucked up uni schedule:

I was supposed to interview two profs today for two stories I'm writing. I drive down to the campus area and cannot find a goddamned place to park for miles from their offices. It's the first day of classes. I had to cancel our appointments. They must think I'm an idiot.

I should know better, though, than to try to do anything near a university campus on the first day of classes. Maybe I am an idiot.

EMMAh 08.21.2008 02:28 PM

You should have taken the bus.

gmku 08.21.2008 02:33 PM

What bus? That's right. This city has almost no bus or any mass public transit system to speak of.

Way too far away--and hot, and dangerous--to bike.

Way too expensive to pay for a taxi.

I was fucked, basically.

EMMAh 08.21.2008 02:39 PM

That's pretty lame. You'd think they would at least have a bus near the university.

gmku 08.21.2008 02:41 PM

They do have some kind of campus bus system, though again like the city's I think it's pretty lame. But even to use that I'd first have to get on or at least close to campus. And I couldn't.

Yeah, the words "It sucks here" have such special meaning for me.

SuchFriendsAreDangerous 08.21.2008 02:41 PM

is a perpetual contingency plan. but fuck those assholes, I am out in December, gradschool here I come, where the real fun begins!

alteredcourse 09.02.2008 11:09 PM

Well, as usual I've veered towards a single course that isnt overly frightening , as I dont have a lot of time or attention span/focus to really challenge myself these days. The area I always veer towards is English and Psychology/the Humanities.

Whenever I browse the Visual Arts dept page, I get very excited. I really wish I could learn how to make sculptures and learn what about what everyone is doing there. I want to learn how to take good photos. I want to explore personal expression and articulate concepts through all that stuff and learn how its done. Yet I dont have the slightest background in any of it and I really dont know what the hell is going on there. I have a huge fear of failure and that I just wont get it. I would hold onto a lump of wet clay in my hands until it melted onto the floor. Then get frustrated and kick the wad at the wall.

EMMAh 09.02.2008 11:17 PM

I was supposed to go back today, but things were fucked.

Tomorrow is the day my world ends.

I know what you mean, It sounds like a fun route to take. However, at the same time a bit intimidating.

fugazifan 09.03.2008 01:51 AM

im gong to be changing my schedual a bit. until now i was doing a double major in musicology and literature, but im changingthe literature to a minor. i signed up for courses but im really pissed cause all of the non mandatory courses that i really wanted to take clash with other courses so i wont be able to take em.
im taking this year (dont remember the days)
in music-
musical cognition
history of music-classical period
history of music-romantic period
hearing enhancment 2
harmony 2
analyzing music through a historical perspective
i really wanted to take arabic music, but i cant this year, so i might take indian music. and maybe a course on the history and structure of instruments.
masterpices in music

i think thats it foe music.
in lit im not sure what ill take since some courses might come off the schedule due to it becoming a minor

literary critacism from aristotle to nitzche
20th century literary terms
text and context
folktales-this is the course that i most want to take.

and i might take a course in classics and in the new testemant
and im starting to learn german and i might take a course in lingustics and maybe in east asia....
