Favorite Dylan album,
and more importantly, WHY it's your favorite. Go:
|
The Best of...
Because it's got his best songs on. |
DESIRE
cuz of hurricane i generally can't swallow any dylan, but this one is good |
I've thought long and hard about this question, and I reckon my vote will probably have to go to John Wesley Harding. On the albums before, particularly the acoustic sides, the mood is extremely dark, this is brilliant, but John Wesley Harding comes along and offers some relief from this, the dark lyrical themes are still there, but musically it has such a charm, its a record with a freindly warmth that I won't ever tire of. So JWH is probably my all time favourite, but recently I've been enjoying the first album very much indeed.

hmmm
Highway 61 Revisited for me. Its the strongest, in my opinion. Blood on the tracks is also pretty amazing. |
Because the electric side is mesmerizing. The tension between Dylan and the audience, the defiance in the performance, the "play fucking LOUD" introduction to "Like a Rolling Stone."

^^^ a big +1 for this one. "Highway 61 Revisited" is a close second for me, too.
|
I quite like Highway 61, but I don't care so much for the rest of his stuff.
|
I think I own 15-20 of his albums, and although "Lay Lady Lay" would be my all time favorite Dylan SONG, I'd still have to say that BLONDE ON BLONDE is my favorite album. Why? Simply put:
[edit] Side two

Same here, but I love everything about "Desire". It's great the whole way through. |
it used to be Highway but now (at least for now) its The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan.
Its full of his humour and has some of my favourite Bob songs |
When you guys say you can't swallow him... what do you mean? His voice or something?
I've loved many of his albums since I was a teen. So I'm just curious. |
It's a tricky one really - Blood on the Tracks is my immediate choice, but that kinda stands apart from all his other albums, in my head at least. And since going through a horrible fucking mess of a break-up with my ex, it's too wrapped up in all the emotions of that time. Though oddly, I can happily listen to On the Beach, which also soundtracked the same period, without any problem.
So leaving that aside, I'd have to go with Bringing It All Back Home - I mean, fuck, when you've got Maggie's Farm, It's Alright Ma (I'm Only Bleeding), It's All Over Now Baby Blue, Gates of Eden, Mr Tambourine Man & Subterranean Homesick Blues on the same LP, I'm amazed that no-one else has chosen it already. Sheer fucking genius. |
BRINGING IT ALL was definitely a considertation of mine.
|
BIABH. Best second side to any album ever.

So... um... out of ... curiousity... anyone have a copy of DYLAN the album from like '78 that has never been released on CD in the US? I'd love to hear it myself.

Oh, yeah, that one. Yeah, that's a stupid record. There are very good reasons some albums are never re-issued. |
supercreep... pm?
|
gmku... what are you talking about nonexistent?
|
Well, the link you provided took me to a nonexistent article. then I realized it was just because you mistyped the link. I eventually found, hence my later comment about "oh, that stupid album."
|
OH, it's because the last ")" didnt' work as part of the link. I get it.
|
Jesus, Self Portrait outtakes? Some things should never be heard.
|
Pleasures Of The Harbour
|
this questions is too much for me and cant be answered.
really I tried it, but all my thoughts were totally fighting against each other... |
Another Side Of, without a doubt.
I think it has the best lyrics; moving away from the political to the personal (relationships and such), even mocking his 'radical' reputation. I like My Back Pages when he talks about growing-out of that self-righteous stage, and To Ramona. And it sounds like he's having a good laugh on most of the songs, especially the one about fighting Ali. |
I can't pick. I love this guy. He's my favourite songwriter/musician of all time. I own next to all of his records bar a few live albums. One day I'll own them all.
Albums I probably listen to the most? the albums that have generally been mentioned so far in this thread; Bringin It All Back Home, Highway 61 Revisted, John Wesley Harding, Another Side..., Blood On the Tracks, Freewheelin, Blonde on Blonde (which hasnt been mentioned? strangely enough), Times They are A Changin, Planet Waves, New Morning, Desire... I have DYLAN on vinyl. Wow I never knew it was too rare. I bought it secondhand in near mint condition for like $5. Apparently it goes for such prices as $250 on ebay? |
I much prefer Tom Petty.
|
My Favourite album is Time Out Of Mind. The reason why is because it sounds perfect. The perfect sounding album.....
The songs are great too |
Who is this Dylan you guys speak of? Never heard him.
... OH, DYLAN SPARROW OF GIGGLE THE OZONE AND THE EMULATORS FAME? Fuck yeah, I love him! www.myspace.com/gtozone www.myspace.com/therealemulators |

You can get it there. I'll get it to you if you know how to get itunse files converted and such. |
But blonde on blonde is my favorite dylan hands down, but I really do enjoy almost all of his albums on some level.
|
'blood on the tracks'. its a record made in the 70s, well after the hippie idealism of the 60s became an abject failure. therefore, dylan doesnt sound as optimistic on this record, its more like, "this world is fucked and i cant do shit about it" as opposed to, "this world is fucked, lets change things boys and girls". also a very personal record, and the only dylan record i can listen to straight throgh. 'tangled up in blue' is a great opening track.
|
Not that this really fits in with this thread:
The Byrds Play Dylan Because I prefer the sound of The Byrds to Bob Dylan. |
