So I'm going to a festival next week. Which bands do you reccomend I see?

http://www.bestival.net/

So I'm going to Bestival on the Isle of Wight next week. Please go on the link, have a look at the lineup and tell me of any bands playing you reccomend I check out. Firstly, My Bloody Valentine are the reason I'm going, so please don't suggest them. Also already on the list for me are Aphex Twin, Jeffrey Lewis, The Breeders, Fuck Buttons, Roots Manuva, XX Teens, Dan Le Sac & Scroobius Pip and a few more. As my friends are obsessive fans I'm also obliged to see Gary Numan and The Human League.

Go! My weekend's itinerary is yours to decide! Sort of...

Cantankerous 08.30.2008 09:12 AM

akron/family

do yourself a favour and watch aphex twin. you will ever forget about it (in a good or bad way depends on you)

Scroobius Pip is great live. I've seen him in a bar but I'm sure his act translates to a bigger venue. He came out on stage and shouted: "you all like UK hip hop!?!". The crowd cheered. "I don't, I think it's shit", he replied.

^^^hahaha nice anecdote

Yeah, Scroobius Pip is a great guy. I spoke to him at a gig earlier this year "#he said (refering to this festival) "I'm playing just before the Human League - how cool is that?!" I can't quite agree, but he seemed quite chuffed.

I saw him in a pub once but I was too scared to talk to him because I was drinking Coca Cola.

I do indeed want to dance, So I will strut in on down there. Thanks!

Everyneurotic 08.30.2008 10:45 AM

i'd see mbv, funkadelic, aphex twin, human league, gary numan, lee perry, the wedding present, dj scotch egg and chrome hoof.

i doubt the owls and ghost in that lineup are the bands i think they are.

blunderbuss 08.30.2008 12:37 PM

I'd go and see Alexa Chung do her DJ thang. She's quite the hottie.

The rest of the weekend I'd spend collecting sand from Alum Bay.

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 08.30.2008 02:10 PM

I'll second Parliament Funkadelic and add in the Sugarhill Gang.

NWRA 08.30.2008 02:25 PM

You maybe obliged to see Gary Numan anyway but you should enjoy him. I saw him at Leeds Festival and he did grungey versions of Down In The Park and Metal, everything distorted and very loud (like NIN or even Aphex Twin remixes of the originals), and they sounded brilliant.

I'd definitely make the effort to see Underworld.

jimbrim 08.31.2008 08:17 AM

I'm going to the Bestival, I'm looking forward to MBV and all the dubstep. Kode9 and Spaceape were so good last year.

ps- This Is Not Here, clear your PM's!

drrrtyboots 08.31.2008 04:20 PM

Seconded on Akron/family, they put on a great show.

Alex's Trip 08.31.2008 04:41 PM

Akron/Family, and Hot Chip. They were cool at coachella this year...

This Is Not Here 08.31.2008 06:49 PM

Okay so Akron/family keeps coming up, I've just been on their myspace, I have to say I'm not that impressed, at times it just feels like a really boring Spiritualised, however I'm up for seeing alot of bands I don't know about next weekend, and perhaps these guys will be one of them.

drrrtyboots 08.31.2008 06:52 PM

Their live show is pretty different from their records but the idea is the same...I guess they might not be for everyone.

Trasher02 08.31.2008 07:29 PM
