Didn't you see My Bloody Valentine live Toilet&Bowels?
Nefeli - MBV played the Electric Picnic festival in Ireland over the weekend - T&B may have gone to see them there.
Well you're gonna be dissapointed by most bands, even MBV, if you fly to another country to see them (except Sonic Youth)...
i saw them in london in june
And, er, anyway......did you like 'em? :p ;)

Note to self- don't travel to see them.

what if they are playing in your neighbor's backyard? |
Why did you go to see them?
Probably because everyone else on the board was, and he didn't want to miss out on the COUNTLESS threads about the gigs. (This one included, you can't say Fuck My Bloody Valentine without having seen them live)
oh boo hoo mbv were shit.. oh boo hoo... how dare they do all this again. its been done before... they were so much better in 1990, they are old.. oh how i was disapoointed.. oh i wouldnt go next door to see them.. i am so up with the trands... i am too young to realise how fucking damn great this band is and what a privilage it is to see and hear 2 of the finest aural documents of our age being played live again...
this thread is funny... i saw mbv last night... i waited 18 years to see them live, ever since i first heard isnt anything, i missed their last irish show in 1992 due to school exams..... i wasnt gonna miss this one and it was an amazing experience...... if you were dissappointed it is because you really wernt going to it with an open heart... i met many cynics last night before the gig, many saying they were into seeing if the old man can still hack the noise.......... the kids didnt hack the fucking noise, they scarpered halfway during the set closer to listen to css or some other generic twaddle.... this thread is remaned.. fuck the mbv cynics...... amazing live experience.... go see them! sidenote- i was stone cold sober..i drove home immediatly afterwards, no point to that just saying..... |
I saw them in 1992 and it was pretty disappointing.

I've said this elsewhere, but it's always interesting that people who were around when a legendary band were says they were shit. Makes me wonder if someone like Modest Mouse will become the legendary band of the early 00s... |
Obviously, I meant the Coral or Gomez.

alan mcgee called them an anorak band
Alan McGee's a bitter old cunt who signed Oasis. Fuck him.

They definitely were pre-"You Made Me Realise", and then became something totally different. To me, an anorak band is summat like The Pastels and The Shop Assistants (who I love). What MBV turned into went way above that, even if they still used the same 60's songwriting template. For me, an anorak band is one who sticks closely to a pre-defined formula without deviation, and MBV totally broke away from that with the "YMMR" EP. Amazing to think that they did that in such a short space of time after "Strawberry Wine" and "Ecstasy".
okay just so we're all clear on what an anorak is
for americans: a nerd in a parka ![]() asian man not included |
I vote "nerd" everytime.
And the "anorak" thing comes totally from the C-86 days, when an anorak was something like what Viz's Mr Logic would wear. They didn't have those badboys in 1988, that's for sure. And Alan McGee was making a bitchy comment about them being like a band in the pre-Creation days, so again, fuck him and his bitter shit. |
they've been making those coats since the 50s. they were originally made for the military.

Weren't cardigans more the C86-uniform?
And parkas a Mod-thing? Now I'm really confused. |
