I have ten hours to more or less write two short stories
 

So this is a thread where board members give me ideas for this awful "creative" writing course I took for kicks at university.

I just realised that every word I have written so far has been written simply to mock the person who, as I have just now discovered, is marking my work.

And this of course involves me having no sleep tonight

Idea #1 - you're in a room (any room) in which you've woken up. On the floor is a dead body, and there's banging on the door. You can just about climb out of the window, but what do you do? Escape, and become a murder susepct, or stay and explain your way out of it?

Interesting. But who is behind the door? This will have major implications for the plot.

you're supposed to be CREATIVE, you can't think of anything on your own?

It's not the police, or the mafia etc - imagine it to be someone whose voice you vaguely recognise, and not for particularly good reasons either - a voice that gives you a vague sense of dread.

Who do you think is behind the door cantankerous?

I am imagining someone like Milo from catch 22.

How long does the short story have to be?

I'm looking at 5000 words. I can't really take it seriously. The lectures are talking earnestly about all these groundbreaking post modern techniques and all I want to do is laugh at them.

Using a free translation tool on the internet this could potentially be hilarious.

I have lots of ideas for short stories but I can't really describe them without writing them entirely out. Often they are just snippet descriptions about reactions, thoughts, movement, observations. A little while ago I thought of a scene in which a girl waited for me in my room and asked about a painting on my wall. As of right now, I feel like writing some Shakespearian/Dune inspired Sci-Fi because of a dream I had.

If you want to bore the tears out of the reader, describe a writer writing about a writier describing another writer writing about another writer writing, etc.

I react to that kind of thing as well, but if I try to add more depth I always ending up by badly immitating Borges.

The marker would eat that up. Probably talk some crap about breaking the boundries of the page. Creative Writing teachers remind me of Fifteen year olds who have just discovered French philosophy for the first time.

Allen Ginsberg did this quite a lot. This is also similar to one day in the life of Ivan Denisovich I think...

Write a story about a boy wizard and his magic powers, and entitle it "Parry Hotter".

I might write about this guy who gets pissed off about the Israelis shelling his house

A man comes across a never ending drip coming from the sky and builds a massive factory around it and never tells anyone about the water and yeh

that idea is a genuine idea i had for a film

eventually people find it and it becomes this massive massive thing where people all over the world are comin to see it
people think its god or the end of the world

Do a memoir type thing of your childhood. It'll come easily if you remember it well, but if your childhood was boring the story may not be so good, at which point you make stuff up.

I wore braces and was always either angry or hungry. I think there was a Klaus Schulze record?
