Bata Motel
Crass

http://www.sendspace.com/file/le3i89

It's catchy, good lyrics, female vocals, and it's Crass of course.

EDIT: I keep writing Hotel instead of Motel.

coaltar of the deepers - evil line

Everyone's favorite japanese without-a-hint-of-irony ambient/electronic/pop/death metal/super-shoegaze constantly surprises me with each new album. Their newest one is no different, featuring some of the heaviest riffs ever and some of the sweetest vocals I've ever heard. Super heavy pop bliss. Anyway, this song's great.

I love happy songs about death. It's sort of a triumph over the sadness of a death in celebrating what was good about the man's life- he lived it to the fullest. I can't explain it properly.. this song says it all though.

"He summoned all of his joy when he laughed,
It suffered all of his joy when he cried,
And sometimes when he got into talking..
Man, he could rattle on and on. He was a good man, and now he's gone."

Old Time Relijun - "Carcerato"

Death in June - Fall Apart

A song by one of the legends of that strangly British phenomena that is esoteric apocolyptic folk music.
I'd also recommend a book called England's Hidden Reverse by David Keenan if anyone's into this sort of stuff.

al shabbray 09.07.2008 02:45 PM

radiohead - you and whose army

the overwhelming feeling of I dont care combined with unbreakable which starts at wround 2:00 (piano)

boris-flood III
i listened to this song on my way home. one of my top ten songs of all time and definatly one of the biggest influences on my current musical style.
really one of the mosty beautifly poetic perfect peices of music i have ever heard. the part when they start sining like 10 minutes in almost brought me to tears today (but unfortunatly i have not cried in 6+ years)

racehorse 09.07.2008 07:37 PM

Well, it's 01.30, so it's technically a new day.

Lay and Love - Bonnie Prince Billy

Nothing much to say about this song, apart from the fact that you should listen to it at least 12 times in a row and then go and lie in the grass with a lover.

deflinus 09.07.2008 07:50 PM

modest mouse - stars are projectors

what happened to them? this seriously is one of their best songs. and it really fits for the type of day i had today

Death & the Maiden 09.08.2008 01:41 AM

The Byrds - Have You Seen Her Face
I started listening to The Byrds again recently, it was a choice between this and My Back Pages. I love the harmonies, the guitar, the solo, everything about it.

samuel 09.08.2008 11:40 PM

My song of the day is
"With My Hands Out" by Mount Eerie

Smog/Bill Callahan - River Guard

specifically this version, such an amazing song, incredible lyrics.

It was one of my least favourite songs on the album until I found this video and the lyrics just stood out so much more to my ears. I get goosebumps and emotional listening

krastian 09.09.2008 10:18 PM

Hahaha at this video (you can also hear someone talking or something around 1:03 that's not in the song?)

EDIT: There's actually a few of them, what the fuck.

sarramkrop 09.10.2008 02:13 PM

I've discovered an excellent band today that are playing in Chicago with Eat Skull, Little Claw etc tomorrow. Their name is Fey Gods, and I don't think they put any records out yet. Anyway, they have a cool tune (more than one) on their myspace called ''Face Like a Rat''.

"The Big Picture" by Bright Eyes

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vp_fJ31tpkI

Excellent idea for an intro- two folks in a car driving around, chatting, as the song blends in, then "shhh, wait a minute, I like this song.." and then cue unbridled melancholy.

Jacques Brel - Amsterdam (english subtitles).

This video of a performance of this song is particularly amazing, in that you can really see how much the man gave to his music. The lyrics are quite remarkable as well, you can actually smell the fish-heads.
