i just want to say they are one of my favorite bands ever.

This Is Not Here 09.18.2008 04:17 PM

Isn't it so very quiet here?

Cantankerous 09.18.2008 04:17 PM

love them

Derek 09.18.2008 04:18 PM

gOING UNDERGROUNDDDDD

demonrail666 09.18.2008 04:20 PM

Or ponce punk, as they call it on my ward.

Cantankerous 09.18.2008 04:21 PM

they are ridiculously poncey. but i enjoy them.

MellySingsDoom 09.18.2008 04:21 PM

The Jam were grest indeed, but Weller's subsequent "career" has been one long snorefest. My faves? "That's Entertainment", "Eton Rifles" and the bitter love-songness of "The Bitterest Pill".

Cantankerous 09.18.2008 04:22 PM

the butterfly collector
i have the yellow promo 7"

gmku 09.18.2008 04:24 PM

When I picked up that first album back in 77 or whatever, I was like, wtf, it's the Who! But it did grow on me.

the bitterest pill is one of my favorites too. i really like going underground, down in the tube station at midnight, their cover of david watts and slow down a whole lot. slow down is actually my favorite jam song.

jimbrim 09.18.2008 04:24 PM

In The City is a great tune.

demonrail666 09.18.2008 04:25 PM

It wasn't until he formed The Style Council that he truly became the greatest figure in popular music besides that bloke with the muscles out of Go West. A true giant.

that record is like a punk rock early who, but that's what makes it so great since the who's first album and singles were amazing.

gmku 09.18.2008 04:27 PM

True.

MellySingsDoom 09.18.2008 04:27 PM

demonrail - I know all about you and your "secret" Mick Merton fetish.

Demon's real #1 tune is "Come To Milton Keynes". TrueMellyFax.

SuperCreep 09.18.2008 04:30 PM

They're pretty good. I like their singles better than their albums.

PAULYBEE2656 09.18.2008 04:51 PM

they were a great song band.. i mean the albums never quite clicked together but they have some amazing songs... going underground, town called malice, news of the world... classics!!!!

and i also hate to admit to liking anything weller ever did.... but thats my problem.....

narlus 09.18.2008 04:53 PM

i saw Paul Weller last week.

not so good.

'the butterfly collector' was magnificent, though.

Toilet & Bowels 09.18.2008 04:56 PM

I was gonna come in here and say "I fucking hate the Jam", but it would just look like I'm jumping on the bandwagon now...

demonrail666 09.18.2008 07:10 PM

The wagon is certainly big enough to take one more. Hop on.

There's a reassuring irony that most people here that love The Jam are American, while most of us that utterly loathe them are English.

jon boy 09.18.2008 07:32 PM

the jam never released any good songs apart from what you give is what you get which in turn is taxman by the beatles, or for you young whippersnappers devils haircut by beck.

demonrail666 09.18.2008 07:33 PM

I thought Start was the total Taxman rip-off

Edit: Ignore me, i see what you mean. i t's the same song. Bollocks either way.

Death & the Maiden 09.18.2008 10:01 PM

I like The Jam. I became obsessed with them awhile ago, and I had a lot of money to spend, so I bought the Direction Reaction Creation boxset. There's nothing wrong with the music, but it really was a waste of money.

Pookie 09.19.2008 03:42 AM

First band I ever saw live.

They had some great songs, but it helped if you'd never heard The Who at the time.

gmku 09.19.2008 06:08 AM

I love those first few Jam albums. Absolutely great.

atsonicpark 09.19.2008 06:17 AM

There's about 10 songs by them that I think are great. I have never listened to a whole album, so maybe there are more or none at all. If you take 2 and add 3, that will become 5, which in turn you want to multiplicate by 2, and end up with a 10.
