Laughing Clowns and Ed Kuepper would still be my favourites. If they hadn't formed, there'd be no forum, and I wouldn't've discovered all this great music, specifically black metal.

Because all of these people who lack their own taste in music but loved Juno have probably heard the name Sonic Youth before. Even if they only saw it on the poster in the Lollapalooza Simpson's episode, that still gives it more familiarity than The Melvins or Mott The Hoople.

But that's not saying ALL Juno fans are like this. I liked Juno, but knew/liked all of these bands before the movie (with the exception of Moldy Peaches, which I knew, liked, and got extremely tired of before the movie). But I would say my above explaination is probably fitting for the people who got really into SY after the movie.

Well, considering that most of the rock bands I like are/were inspired by Sonic Youth, I suppose if they never formed I would only listen to jazz music.

Just few bands (Zappa and Beefheart for example).
I don't listen to "classic" rock. Remember, I'm born in 1983. It doesn't mean I think all the music before the Youth was shit, but it doesn't blow my mind as much as Sonic Youth or related bands do. Actually I was not really into rock music before knowing the Youth and other bands from the same era, I was into jazz and stuffs like that.

Okay. I just find it weird, considering so many of my kids friends were/are into "dinosaur" bands as well as new stuff. My daughter and son love the Beatles and the Stones and Dylan, Zep, Hendrix, etc., but are also into all kinds of new stuff I've never heard of.
