Slide Guitar in Music

I love the way this sounds, especially when its mixed in with rock music, i want to know some more bands or musicians that use this.

only ones i can think of off the top of my head are the gun club, white stripes, mazzy star, cream and muddy waters.

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 06.07.2006 01:37 PM

Zeppelin has some great slide.

finding nobody 06.07.2006 01:37 PM

one of the best things to ever happen to the guitar.

other musicians that use them: sonic youth, the beatles, beck, pink floyd, weezer

Savage Clone 06.07.2006 01:38 PM

Try the 60s group The Misunderstood - GREAT middle-easterney steel guitar.
Also, there is some beautifully atmospheric steel guitar action on "Chill Out" by the KLF. Make fun if you like, but I still really enjoy that album.

dazedcola 06.07.2006 01:39 PM

Throbbing Gristle!
Cosey Fanni Tutti used a slide on her guitar most of the time, to great effect.

Silver by the Pixies has slide guitar

DemonBox 06.08.2006 11:10 AM

You're getting repped for mentioning the Gun Club:) They had a good tradition with using slides, but the ultimate GC slideguitar song has got to be Mother Earth from Miami, (Breaking Hands comes close though)

Duane Dennison is such an underrated guitarist. I met him after the Tomahawk gig in belfast a few years back,he talked to me for about 20 minutes, really nice guy. although it might have been because a lot of other people were floating round patton like flies round shite

And oh man, did you see the clip on youtube right before this clip, it really is, punk as fuck!

Yep, the guitar is so limiting.
Not like a versatile instrument such as the Kazoo.
I mean, you can hum anything you want into one of those suckers and it just comes right out! The possibilities are endless!
