...sound a bit more like Sonic Youth than they do Joy Division.

This thought came to me when I was listening to Schizophrenia one day. when it got to the part after Thurston ends his vocals, I immediatly thought of Interpol, and that Schizophrenia is something they could have covered easily.

Am I crazy, or has anyone else thought this?

I really liked them three years ago but now... meh.

I think they are overrated. Have never found anything the least bit interesting in their music. But that's just me.

I like their first album but I find their second album to be full of suck. I wouldn't go out of my way to see them if they came to Pittsburgh.

I like em, but they're kinda boring live. They sound good... just kinda boring.

That is how I feel about most new indie bands.

in my opinion,they sound more like joy division than sy,but surely some of the guitar work is recognizable as a sort of "post punk/no wave" thing that sometimes becomes more "romantic/shoegazing" like in NYC...those kinds of sounds were born in the period sy started being a proper band,so i guess there's a resemblance with some guitar lines etc.etc. ....i messed up my thoughts,i hope you get what i meant.

interpol's first album, Turn on the Bright Lights, is fuckin amazing and when it came out a few years ago i though they were like Jesus comin again or some shite, but imagine my disgusted little head when the released Antics, which i think is a pile of arse.

there is no denying the singer sounds like Ian Curtis in some songs, but i do take onboard what your saying also, they do have a little Youth sound to em too.

i love interpol, but i don't see any connection between them and sonic youth musically. they don't sound alike at all to me.
i went to see interpol in 2004 and i hve had ringing in my left ear ever since, they are the loudest band i have ever seen.

i say interpol doesn't sound like joy division or sonic youth.

to me, they just sound like crap. period.

Am I the only one who thinks the guy sounds like the singer from the Chameleons far more than he sounds like Ian Curtis?
He's a dead ringer for the Chameleons guy.

at first (after actually listening to Joy Division) I thought they sounded like JD, but after listening to their Closer stuff, I don't see similarities anymore. JD were a lot more expiremental

sorry, we are talking bout the same interpol. one- they dont sound like joy division, just cuz pauls vocals are that deep baritone whine, and two- mogwai and godspeed??????????? ok whatever about mogwai. how in gods name can interpol sound like godspeed??????

i like interpol. bright lights is a great indie pop album
antics is a lot weaker and im sure the next one will be even weaker still. dilution of talent is prevelent in the indie kidz hall of fame

they make good background music. i put "..bright lights" on when i read. they don't really sound like the yoof to me, though.

yes turn on the bright lights is fantastic, and antics is terrible, its like, where did the edge go?

they don't sound like closer, but they do sound like other JD things, specificly some of the tracks on substance. and they sound like mogwai or godspeed because they have that sort of melodrama, and sound like a dilution of a dilution of SY, whereas SY's music is very sounding fluid, mogwai and GYBE are very rigid, and so are interpol. what i'm saying is i think any SY influence on interpol is indirect, and comes via other groups.

Ditto. They are a crappy band. The band that I have (which doesnt even exist) soundsmuch better than them.

I only like specialist, the reast is getting old.

I like Interpol, and I can understand where they get the joy division comparison, but it's not like the bass player is outright stealing hook's lines, which in my opinion, made the JD sound.

The fact interpol albums are available on vinyl is nearly a sacrilege! Very boring band.

I like the way someone wrote that they do sound like JD,yes,but without the claustrophobic intensity that they had.You couldn't put it any better than that.Anyway,what do i care........

I forgot to mention that Fennesz remixed Interpol,once, to great effect.

Interpol is like one of those cds of nature sounds you buy to put you to sleep, only it's more boring. I buy their albums so i can listen to moleface preach about "stories are boring and stuff".

Not that i would spend any dosh on them to start with......
