What is the meaning of It?

I think there was a thread similar to this one.

I'm going to post the meaning of my name, and anyone who'd like to can follow suit.

"usually a woman's given name or surname. It is of Latin origin and means "youthful"."

If you'd like to make it more interesting, guess what name it is befor posting your own (although, that would be quite easy).

ploesj 01.03.2009 12:10 PM

i'd say julia.

mine is hard since it isn't used in any other country than belgium and the netherlands. it means merciful or lovely, and has hebrew origins.

Danny Himself 01.03.2009 12:11 PM

Antagon 01.03.2009 12:45 PM

Mine is Hebrew and means "Son of my right hand"

ploesj 01.03.2009 12:50 PM

i used to know a kid called benjamin, he claimed that his name meant that.

Antagon 01.03.2009 01:00 PM

That's right ploesj! But the funny thing is that the translation varies from language to language. In German it translates "Son of Luck"

Mine isn't very hard to guess.

"Helper and defender of mankind."

davenotdead 01.03.2009 06:03 PM

Possibly derived from Hebrew דוד (dvd) meaning "beloved". David was the second and greatest of the kings of Israel, ruling in the 10th century BC. Several stories about him are told in the Old Testament, including his defeat of Goliath, a giant Philistine. Jesus was supposedly descended from him.

greedrex 01.03.2009 06:33 PM

Patrick is a name derived from either the Latin name "Patricius" (patrician, i.e. nobleman) or from an earlier Celtic name.[1] It was Gaelicised as Padraic or Padraig, and owing to the importance of Saint Patrick in Irish history, it is an especially popular name in Ireland.

pbradley 01.04.2009 02:02 PM

My name derives from the word for anmcient ROman aristocrats.

Rob Instigator 01.04.2009 02:28 PM

First name: ROBERTO - Portuguese form of Robert (bright with fame), which is derived from the Old High German Hruodperht, a compound name composed of the elements hruod (fame) and beraht (bright)

Middle name: XAVIER - Derived from the Basque place name Etxaberri meaning "the new house". This was the surname of the Jesuit priest Saint Francis Xavier (1506-1552). He was a missionary to India, Japan, China, and other areas in eastern Asia, and he is the patron saint of the Orient and missionaries. His surname has since been adopted as a given name in his honour, chiefly among Catholics.

Last name: TORRES - (Galician, Catalan, Spanish, Portuguese, and Jewish (Sephardic)) habitational name from any of the numerous places named Torres, all named with the plural of torre ‘tower’

DeadDiscoDildo 01.04.2009 04:21 PM

From the Hebrew name meaning "who is like God?". In the Book of Revelation in the New Testemant he is portrayed as the leader of heaven's armies, and thus is considered the patron saint of soldiers.

Florya 01.04.2009 04:24 PM

Mine means 'God's Peace'

My name is french (of course) and means that I'm "golden" or a "golden coin"

Derek 01.04.2009 04:58 PM

Derek is a male name of English and Old German origin, derived from the same root as the Old German Theodoric, meaning power of the tribe or ruler of the people. Variants recently revived are Deryk, Deric, Derak and the Dutch form Dirk, popularised by the actor Dirk Bogarde. In recent years it has been used occasionally as a family name, for example Bo Derek.

MellySingsDoom 01.04.2009 05:02 PM

Mine is a Russian derivate of the Greek "Alexander", and means "defender or helper of mankind".

woah really? that's the first person out of a country other than belgium or the netherlands i've heard of... most people speaking anohter language can't even pronounce it correctly.

it is derived from anne, the 'ke' is a dialect way to indicate something small or young in flemish. so basically it means 'little anne'. that's why many people think it's not my real name, but a nickname.

Trasher02 01.04.2009 05:11 PM

I think my name means "just another civillian" in japan

phoenix 01.05.2009 05:43 AM

My name is overall fairly religious. which is kind of ironic since I'm more spirituality inclined than a follower of organised faith.

variation of God beholds/from the hands of god/apparently also 'foresight or clairevoyance', ? (in reality my name is shakeasperean though it is derived from hebrew of this nature) + variation of 'christ' + 'humanity/mankind'

Im far less inspirational and holy than my name could have you believe, though.
