Edward G Robinson. I like him, and he played only in good movies, as far as I know.
Kirk Douglas. Same, plus he improves any movie by his presence.

Good call on both of those, especially Kirk Douglas. He did do some stinkers (Saturn 3!:eek:) but I can only imagine how much worse they would've been without him.

no, really, it's historic fact that kubrick interfered with the production to ham it up, the fucking actor, which he did successfully, but thus ruining the movie. kubrick then "disowned" the picture as he didn't have creative control of it.

I'm guessing you watch a lot of Coen brothers films.

I do. They are a great showcase for actors to prove their range.. I mean it's amazing how Turturro can play Barton Fink in one film and then Jesus Quintana in another.

I don't think there is any actor that would have me walk into a movie with a shit premise. A good actor does the role justice, even if the character is weak and unbelievable in the script. For instance, I liked Ioan Gruffudd in the Hornblower series and Saving Grace but fuck no am I going to see King Arthur and the Fantastic Four movies on his account.

I just saw a medicore movie this weekend called "Don't Tempt Me" starring Penelope Cruz, and will declare I will watch all her spanish language films because she comes off as the hottest woman in the world, its sad how her english speaking parts never seem to due her justice character-wise and even beauty-wise, there is a clear difference when you watch her in a American film and when you watch her in a Spanish film.

there was a time when i'd watch anything with catherine keener in it too, but i don't have much of a clue what she's been doing for the last 5 or 6 years, and in the 90s i'd watch anything johnny depp made, he only seems to make shit films now though.

That would have applied to me too a few years ago but he's directed a lot of nonsense of late.

I guess it would have to be, along with the more obvious ones (De Niro), anything with Dennis Hopper or Dustin Hoffman from their peak decades. Beatrice Dalle always seems be in interesting films, particularly of late, i.e., Inside, Seventeen Times Cecile Cassard, Process.

Did you see her in The Blackout? That is one seriously fucked up (in a good way) film.
