Actors
Which actors do you like? Any whose name on a poster will almost guarantee you'll watch the movie regardless of what it's about, simply because they're in it?
|
Steve Coogan
|
rebecca hall: smokin'!
![]() kate winslet: yum ![]() and she's in good movies lately. |
Edward G Robinson. I like him, and he played only in good movies, as far as I know.
Kirk Douglas. Same, plus he improves any movie by his presence. |
vin diesel! did you know he's half-black?
|
Quote:
Good call on both of those, especially Kirk Douglas. He did do some stinkers (Saturn 3!) but I can only imagine how much worse they would've been without him. He made a great Popeye, too. |
kirk douglas = spartacus = UTTER SHIT
|
Yes, but how much shitter would it've been without him?!?
|
Quote:
considering he's the one who ruined it, not shittier at all |
HaHa. I disagree, but can't argue with your logic.
|
Quote:
no, really, it's historic fact that kubrick interfered with the production to ham it up, the fucking actor, which he did successfully, but thus ruining the movie. kubrick then "disowned" the picture as he didn't have creative control of it. |
|
Jane Fonda's one for me (workout videos aside)
![]() And Alan Bates (the one man I might have gone a bit gay for) ![]() |
Quote:
I didn't know any of that, so thanks. It certainly seems like you're right. Although I'm personally not a fan of Kubrick it does indeed look as though all of Spartacus' shittiness can be placed squarely at the feet of Douglas. And there was me spending all those years blaming it all on Tony Curtis. |

it's because of the beard, isn't it? |
Clint Eastwood.
I will watch anything he directs or acts in. No problem. BIRD is a masterpiece. |
I don't really pay attention to actors but I'd watch something with Takeshi Kitano in it regardless of what the movie is.

Haha. Settle down symbol man.
|
Takeshi Kitano is my favorite actor. I also enjoy Ryuhei Matsuda, Kazuya Nakayama, Tadanobou Asano, Kaori Momoi, Ryosuke Miki, Yuya Uchida, Masumi Okada, Hiroki Matsukata, Hiroshi Katsuno, Daijiro Harada, Daisaku Akino, Chisato Amate, Kenichi Endo, Ryuuji Harada, Yoshio Harada, Renji Ishibashi, Tsurtaro Kataoka, Andy Lau, Anthony Wong, Shinya Tsukamoto, Kirin Kiki, Kazuhiro Mashiko, Hideji Otaki, Tokitoshi Shiota, Shun Sugata, Haruna Takase, Hiroyuki Nagato, Mari Nakayama, Ken Ogata, Susumu Terajimi, Taro Yamamoto, Joe Yamanaka, Rikiya Yasuoka..
and Gary Oldman, Christopher Walken, Robert DeNiro. |
deniro as a bloated cartoon fuck in "analyze this" or "meet the parents" is a disgrace to himself.
|
Yeah, I should say, late 60's - late 1998..
Greetings, The Wedding Party, Hi Mom, Mean Streets, The Godfather II, Taxi Driver, Deer Hunter, Raging Bull, True Confessions, King of Comedy (!), Once Upon a Time in America, Angel Heart, The Untouchables, Goodfellas, Awakenings, Backdraft, Cape Fear, Mistress, Bronx Tale, This Boy's Life, Casino, Brazil, Heat, Sleepers, The Fan, Cop Land, Jackie Brown, Wag the Dog, Ronin... great! |
Steve McQueen
Daniel Day-Lewis (My Left Foot might be the best movie ever from a strictly method acting standpoint) Gary Oldman |
peter falk
james stewart joseph cotton my two favorite actresses are gena rowlands and julietta masina and a few more that i dont feel like thinking of right now |
i have this thing for jack palance for some reason... i guess it was after i saw Contempt. i can't even explain it
|
something similar happened to me after seeing Contempt. Only in my case it was for Bridget Bardot - an altogether easier one to explain I suppose.
|
for one week in 2008, i strongly considered getting a large tattoo of jack palance anally raping Bardot... on my ribs... i was in a weird place at the time
|
John Turturro, Adrien Brody, Jeff Bridges, Natalie Portman, Dominique Pinon, Tommy Lee Jones, John Malkovich, Frances McDormand, Dustin Hoffman, John Goodman, Samuel L. Jackon, Uma Thurman.. hmm.. that's about it. Maybe add my dear Zooey to the list, though I haven't seen many of her films due to them being infected with Matthew McConaughey.
|
I'm guessing you watch a lot of Coen brothers films.
|
I do. They are a great showcase for actors to prove their range.. I mean it's amazing how Turturro can play Barton Fink in one film and then Jesus Quintana in another.
![]() Eight year olds, dude. |
James Cagney
![]() Peter Sellers ![]() Mel Blanc ![]() |
White Heat, I liked it.
|
John Malkovich
Takeshi Kitano And for some reason, I always enjoy Chris Kattan movies. Even when they suck. |

I just saw a medicore movie this weekend called "Don't Tempt Me" starring Penelope Cruz, and will declare I will watch all her spanish language films because she comes off as the hottest woman in the world, its sad how her english speaking parts never seem to due her justice character-wise and even beauty-wise, there is a clear difference when you watch her in a American film and when you watch her in a Spanish film.
|
she is ridiculously fine with her spanish lisp and her sultry looks
|
michelle yeoh
crispin glover there was a time when i'd watch anything with catherine keener in it too, but i don't have much of a clue what she's been doing for the last 5 or 6 years, and in the 90s i'd watch anything johnny depp made, he only seems to make shit films now though. |

That would have applied to me too a few years ago but he's directed a lot of nonsense of late. I guess it would have to be, along with the more obvious ones (De Niro), anything with Dennis Hopper or Dustin Hoffman from their peak decades. Beatrice Dalle always seems be in interesting films, particularly of late, i.e., Inside, Seventeen Times Cecile Cassard, Process. |
Quote:
Did you see her in The Blackout? That is one seriously fucked up (in a good way) film. |
