your favorite beer.

tell me your favorite beer and I'll tell you who you are.

I love beer. It's the perfect drink for any occasion, you can have beer with friends at a bar, in a family reunion, in opera and at 9 AM with strangers in the street. I'd drink everyday but my 2009 resolutions are boring.

"mhh... Heineken"

atsonicpark 01.07.2009 07:48 AM

blunderbuss 01.07.2009 07:51 AM

_slavo_ 01.07.2009 07:52 AM

Mine are:
Pilsner Urquell (Czech)
Budvar (Czech)
Saris (Slovakian ... a well hidden treasure)
Zywiec (Polish ... yum!)
Tiger (Singapore)
Singha (Thai)
Heineken (Dutch)

MellySingsDoom 01.07.2009 08:33 AM

Heineken? Fuck that shit! PABST BLUE RIBBON!

whorefrost 01.07.2009 08:48 AM

In all seriousness, I am quite partial to Okacim as well

noisereductions 01.07.2009 09:02 AM

Guiness is my favorite, but it's pricey. For go-to bears I tend to drink Heine in colder months and Corona in warmer months.

Toilet & Bowels 01.07.2009 09:03 AM

efes? seriously?

I like this most of all I think:

As far as lagers go I like Peroni the most, but I tend not to drink lager very often.

have you tried other polish beers?
i don't like okocim much.

Phlegmscope 01.07.2009 10:02 AM

This one, but it's pricey:

For getting drunk:

radarmaker 01.07.2009 11:09 AM

Budvar.

gmku 01.07.2009 11:29 AM

Three Floyds Alpha King. Yum. Can't find it in these parts though.

Kulmbacher Eisbock. Extra yummy, but a bit pricey.

Also, this time of year, Sierra Nevada's Celebration Ale. A great IPA.

My usual go-to beer is Flying Dog's IPA, sometimes Spaten Optimator. I try to mix it up throughout the year, to keep things interesting. In May, I like a good mai bock.

_slavo_ 01.07.2009 11:30 AM

wow, so many people love czech beers here. good to hear that.

DeadDiscoDildo 01.07.2009 02:54 PM

312 from chicago.

stella.

and if I'm just trying to get fucked up, miller light or coors (cold as the rockys they say!)

really I'm more of a liquor guy.

See? You are capable of having an opinion that isn't entirely and horrifically wrong.

Otter for me please.

uhler 01.07.2009 03:10 PM

root beer then hoegaarden.

acousticrock87 01.07.2009 03:16 PM

Guinness is about all I can say I "like," but I have preferences if I must decide.

Michelob Amber Boch is good if it's available. If I have a choice of cheap beers I go with Coors. Beyond that, I'd rather not pick from a lot of bad stuff. Whiskey, please.

deflinus 01.07.2009 04:40 PM

stella

sarramkrop 01.07.2009 04:45 PM

stella or guinness

Thank you. Coors is my cheap choice as well, and people always argue me on this. It's the only cheap beer that I can have 4 or 5 of and not be ready to puke. Well, that or High Life.

That being said, I prefer Bells (just about any type), Shiner Bock, Guinness, Goose Island, and of course, Red Stripe.

MellySingsDoom 01.07.2009 05:02 PM

T&B - Yeah, I know that Efes ain't exactly a classy beer, bu I really do dig it's taste. It must be my South London idiot root showing.

In other news, I also Leffe (Belgium), and whatever the name of that Belgian cherry beer is.

ZEROpumpkins 01.07.2009 08:08 PM

Carlton Draught!
Or Coopers.

davenotdead 01.07.2009 09:02 PM

haha, i wonder how much time i've spent sitting in the bottle shop deciding which aussie beer to buy. Cooper's is the best though, i think.

stuff i usually drink if i have a choice:
Guiness
pilsner urquell
stella
anchor steam (can't always find it)
cheapie: Miller

sometimes:
Sam Adams
Corona

pbradley 01.07.2009 09:50 PM

There is a Czech beer that I really like but I forgot its name.

Of course Guiness. Um, Blue Moon is a good for a more berry like beer.

Sierra Nevada and Anchor Steam are also common choices.

RdTv 01.07.2009 10:10 PM

Guinness
Czechvar
Staropramen
Starobrno
Bell's Oberon Ale
Heineken
Red Stripe
Stella

On the cheap side:
Carling Black Label ($10 for 24 and it taste good)
Amberbock
Coors
Miller High Life

davenotdead 01.07.2009 10:23 PM

oh yeah i like amberbock too

Oh yeah! My friends got a keg of that once, and it's the only time I've had it. It pretty much tasted like Coors, as far as I could tell.

reginald 01.08.2009 09:44 AM

I'm a hoppy IPA man all the way and this is the best I've ever had....

Hop Ottin' IPA is as hoppy as they come. The name means "hard working hops," in Boontling, and that tells it all. Generous additions of high-alpha Pacific Northwest hops added during a vigorous boil, plus traditional dry hopping, with whole hop cones, give this ale a delicious citrus aroma, and an intense hoppy bite. This IPA is a hop lover's dream.

Man! With all the great American microbreweries across the country, it absolutely FLOORS me that so many of you people still choose to drink swill like Michelob, Stella, and even Guiness. People, COME ON! There are so many tastier choices out there.

when you insult guinness it offends me personally:(

gmku 01.08.2009 11:46 AM

Sorry, but Guinness really isn't that good. Try a smaller American label's stout, something from Flying Dog or Rogue, or even the Sierra Nevada Porter, and you'll notice a huge difference. Guiness is bland by comparison.

From what I hear, the original Guinness in Great Britain is much better than what's imported into the US. I could be wrong.

I used to enjoy mixing Guinness with Bass Ale for the original Black & Tan !

Glad you enjoy that Hop Ottin' gmku, another tasty IPA if you can find it is...

GOLD MEDAL WINNER - Best American Beer 2004 Great British Beer Festival
“Hands-down one of the best American-style India Pale Ales ever crafted. This brew is lip smacking, with an aggressive and pungent grapefruit hop character. Wonderfully balanced and insanely drinkable.” - Jason & Todd Alström, the Weekly Dig's Beer Highlights of 2004

I'll look for it. South Carolina is problematic for always finding the great beers in stock, though one or two places around here do a fair job of stocking their shelves w/ great American micros.

I travel a few times a year to Denver, which of course is beer heaven.
