I resisted listening to them until now.

That "Winter Hymnal" single they had out was really haunting and depressing. Some very interesting vocal work.. I wouldn't write them off.

So had I, but they came on the radio at work.

I cant understand why they're getting their asses kissed so thoroughly by every publication. Every best of 08 list wrote them as some lost treasure. I gave them a listen and was incredibly disappointed, just another of those hyped bands who arent half as good as people think.

Because all the music writers are too busy watching monk to listen to music so they just go with bands that sound cool like "fleet of starfoxes".

i feel lucky that in israel there is no hype for not super mainstream bands. so it never ruins a listening experience for me. and the album has some really good songs on it.
i dont see how they could be offensive

I just downloaded an album of theirs that was ranked high on a top 2008 list, and was thoroughly disappointed.

It's exactly like MGMT, they have what, one decent song on the album and the rest is all super flat, super boring, super forgettable.

I just listened to White Winter Hymnal. Shite, but that's a fucking great drum sound. Which reminds me, I really need to stop kicking about with producers.

I don't much like them either, I tried. It's a crime that someone like Ben Chasny doesn't get the kind of exposure they're getting.

I don't get how anyone can compare FF with Six Organs, but anyway yes of course, he's so much more singular.

I don't think he's comparing, he's saying "Why isn't [musician A] popular when they're so much more unique, consistent, talented, hell maybe even CATCHY compared to [musician F]?"

Unrelated to anything on this thread: is 'faff' the same as 'fraff'? there used to be a band about at the time of britpop called Fraff, that's why i'm asking. I'm not sure, I read a somewhere it's south london slang for 'messing around'.

I enjoy them, just super mellow enjoyable singer songwriter whatever. Nothing great but not bad..

Faff does sort of mean 'messing around', but not in an irresponsible way, more a sort of doing something in an overfussy but ultimately not very productive way. I've never heard of the word 'Fraff' though. It sounds vaguely like a type of coffee.
