nomadicfollower 06.13.2006 03:34 PM

Two Nuns and a Pack Mule = perfect album.

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 06.13.2006 03:38 PM

Rapeman is awesome. So is Big Black. So is Shellac.

My favorite Albini song ever would have to Jordan, Minnesota. Such a great song.

king_buzzo 06.13.2006 03:41 PM

i really need stuff from big black and shellac.

finding nobody 06.13.2006 03:42 PM

i like rapeman more then big black. they're real cool

Pookie 06.13.2006 03:48 PM

Steve Albini hasn't made a bad record ever. Kerosene and A Prayer To God are 2 of my favourite songs by anybody. As a producer...? Well that's a different story.

Rob Instigator 06.13.2006 03:53 PM

remember that albini is NOT a producer. he as he says, is a recording engineer. he does not try to shape the band's songs, so if they have shit songs they will record shit songs.
what albini does better than any other recording engineer I have ever ever heard is record a band to where the sound coming out of the speake4rs on their recording is near exactly what they sound like live on stage. I LOVE THAT!
who here does not hate when a band sounds one way on album and live completely different? I know I do!

rapeman rule. they had one record and one EP (BUDD) I got them both and rock them. TROUSER MINNOW is my favorit song off of Two Nuns & a Pack Mule

Big Black rule all though.

shellac kicks ass. that was a great show.

if any of you are from chicago area, go to touch & Go's 25th anniversary bloc party because shellac will be playing, as well as a lot of other amazing bands.

Pookie 06.13.2006 04:02 PM

Ooh...I feel like I've been told off!! And I kinda like it. I agree completely with you about Albini's skills as an 'engineer', I just meant he's produced some stuff that let's say, isn't to my taste.

Phlegmscope 06.13.2006 04:26 PM

The best albini related song ever would be Coition Ignition Mission.

Rob Instigator 06.13.2006 04:43 PM

no telling off! t'was not my intention!

SONIC LIFE!

RIPfrey05 06.13.2006 05:40 PM

Rapeman is an incredible band , it's really a shame that they had such a short career as a band. The people in that band were all so talented and were able to write and perform such amazingly violently and volitle yet perfected songs. Two Nuns is such an amazing album. who else has ever performed anything that sounds like "monobrow"?? The really amazing thing about the band is their sense of dynamics, like on Budd, which almost makes me cry everytime i hear it. It's really annoying that people diss on this band and write them off cause of the name. People need to quit being so uptight and understand the whole concept of writing songs from another person's perspective mostly and evil person's point of view.
This band and "two nuns" definately gets so much underexposure. Fucking great, son!

Norma J 06.13.2006 05:43 PM

I haven't heard Rapeman, but I love Big Black and especially Shellac.

Everyneurotic 06.13.2006 05:48 PM

two nuns and a pack of mule is probably albini's best album.

Pookie 06.13.2006 05:52 PM

Can't argue with that!

kcjo6789 06.13.2006 06:50 PM

this is a bit off topic, but does anyone have the comic that their name came from? apparently its some weird japanese comic and the main superhero's power is.... raping people. it sounds hilarious and i've been curious about it ever since i heard of rapeman.

nomadicfollower 06.13.2006 07:31 PM

Interview with Albini:

How about Rapeman?

Rapeman is the title character in a Japanese comic book that I had come across through a friend of mine. The comic book is just a total mind-bender. There's a whole genre of comics in Japan, rape stories where women are raped in really graphic detail for whatever reason, and it's an amazing thing that this is just an accepted part of their sort of normal popular culture. Seeing one of these comic books really blows your mind if you're not familiar with the concept, and if you're looking at it as an American would look at a comic book, as something bery lighthearted, and y'know, sort of children's entertainment. You open up this comic book and there's this superhero who rapes people, as his profession. It's pretty amazing. So Ray Washam and I -- the drummer from Rapeman -- he and I were both sort of obsessed with this comic book for a while, we just thought it was the most amazing thing and kept looking at it, and we just realized that we should call the band that.

Just Got Paid is a personal favourite

nomadicfollower 06.14.2006 08:20 AM

Hah, yeah. It's even better considering it's a ZZ Top cover.

Just got paid today, got me a pocketful of change!

therealglenstyler 06.14.2006 09:00 AM

does any one else find that it (two nuns ..) actually plays really really quietly?

Trasher02 06.14.2006 09:10 AM

Rapeman is great!
The band is pretty good too.

glad it's not just me. monobrow came on my randomised ipod this morning and it spiritually armoured me on the ride to work. quiet it may be but it still rocks significantly harder than anything else. j

_slavo_ 06.20.2006 09:52 AM

I guess 'Crow' from At Action Park is Albini's strongest song ever.

Rob Instigator 06.20.2006 09:55 AM

It's because it's lo-fi (is that the word). It's the same with 'Slanted and Enchanted' by Pavement and Big Blacks 'Songs about fucking' albums.

IntoTheGroovey 06.21.2006 11:48 PM

I just picked up their CD in the clearance bin for 5 dollars. Score.

Rob Instigator 06.22.2006 09:02 AM

5 dollars? FANTASTIC!!!

king_buzzo 06.23.2006 02:28 AM

There was an episode of Law & Order on a few hours ago that talked about this comic book.

atari 2600 06.23.2006 12:09 PM

at least you got it for free on emule so then you can discard it one day when no one thinks it's "cool" anymore & not have any bad feelings

h8kurdt 06.23.2006 12:19 PM

Take it you don't like them, atari?

atari 2600 06.23.2006 12:21 PM

I'm burned out on them...quick...
I have a couple of albums a couple of bootlegs & demos, etc...

so you see, I liked them at one time more than you even do now

how about that?

h8kurdt 06.23.2006 12:24 PM

Well I don't like them so ner.
