SUCKS FOR THE JANITOR!
FOOD ON! FOOD ON! FOOOOOD FIIIIIGGHHHT!!! fucking fine album, care free rock and roll, unashamed fun- can't top their debut and early EPs though |
Uh ohhhhhhh...

I've never consciously listened to this band on the basis of that piss-awful name. That is all.
|
the only reason why i paid any attention to this band is because of my hard on for the chick
|
One of my favorite albums of 08.
One of the only recent punk bands with pretty much no pretension AND the ability to upset your parents without having to rely on gruesomeness or excessive profanity to do so. What can I say, I love Be Your Own Pet and was sad to see them go. |
Jonas was apparently a bit of a douchebag so 2/3 of the Turbo Fruits left Nashville to move up to NYC with Jemina to form a new band.
BYOP IS BASICALLY JUST JEMINA GUYS |
better these guys than animal collective
|
Finally, a parody thread that works!

This album was okay. Stupid universal people removed 3 tracks, 2 of which being the best ones from the album, Becky and Black Hole. That ticked me off a bit. But yeah not even close to being the best album ever, haha. Nice one. They were a decent band, too bad they broke up, but they'll all move on to other projects.

I remember when these guys broke up I was like, jumping up and down from excitement. I posted so many myspace bulletins in celebration.
|
That's a bit too much maybe ? I mean, they were certainly not that good and I never listen to them, but they weren't THAT bad either...
I think even if the Mars Volta splitted I wouldn't celebrate it. I mean, who gives a fuck? I don't like this band, I have other things to care about than if they do split or not. I'd rather be sad when a band I like split |

I still think they were just a fun pop-rock band. Who did their own thing, not even caring that it was done. Not all music has to be pushing the limits you know.
|
Okay. But go over to my mass of the fermenting dregs thread, download that album and then compare that to be your own pet real quick.

Fuck copyright, have you seen some of the photo's/heard any of the samples I use on MY MySpace?
Fair use, muthafucka. |

you lucky dog --- the song "becky" is just amazing in everywhere, but yeah, they heard so many comparisons to paramore that they said "what the hey! let's try and sound like paramore!". |

That would make a change from mentioning Authecre every other post, wouldn't it? |

The band have only ever been recorded WELL in one case I can think of, when Steve McDonald recorded 'Bicycle Bicycle' and 'Girls On TV' for the Summer Sensation EP. If I remember, Universal/Ecstatic Peace used this superior EP recording of 'Bicycle Bicycle' when they released it as a single, instead of the earlier, poor quality recording on the album (which was strangely recorded by the same producer and engineer, huh). The drum sound is fantastic on the EP recording, the bass is nice and clear through the scratchy guitar, and Jemina does her thing as usual. If you can get hold of the EP, you should. Get Awkward isn't really that well recorded and I would agree that the production is too 'commercial rock' sounding- I doubt they'd sink so low as using protools, though. Haters might like to think this band are idiots, but they are most definitely not.. they're in the vein of Descendents, Bad Brains, et al rather than Green Day and Limp Bizkit. If you wanted to hear this band, you had to hear them live. Like The Sonics, or Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. They rock too hard for CDs and Wax to comprehend. Quote:
Exactly. Marty, you need to get off your elitist high horse and stop acting like you're too intelligent for rock and roll. |
I am going to take a shit now.

Or Boards of Canada. |
I'd rather read about Autechre and Boards of Canada than a piss poor band like this.
|
boards of canada, now there's a boring band.
