animal collective's new one reminds me of genisus
honestly, it does. and i mean that in a good way. its as if genisus was actually good or something. and its totally pop. its not noise pop, avant pop, wierdo pop, its just lush, organic, melodic, harmonic, and beautiful pop music.
ive listened to "merriweather post pavillion" twice and its easily the best thing since "sung tungs", a far grater acheivement that its two predecessors. the vocals were the most immediatly impressive thing to me, they really have mastered that harmonizing thing they do. much better use of electronics and synths on this record too. ill need to listen more but this might be the animal collective album that really does it for me. now hears the wierd part, i knew ac had a record coming out, and that it was anticipated, but i had no idea itd been out for three godamned weeks already! im totally out of the loop on the indie scope, but that's because most indie sucks. animal collective by lorrd doesnt suck though. |
Do you mean Genesis?
|
that's what i was gonna say. I don't know any genisus.
|
Anyway, I love it. I really do. Though, I think it's tied with STRAWBERRY JAM. And truthfully, I think DANSE MANATEE is the only AC release I dont think is great.
|
its still registering as an ok album for me. my girls is an amazing song tho..... shouldnt it be "genii"?
|
^ "My Girls" is incredible. No denying that.
|
I am not alone.
yes. |
amaaaaaazing album. i loves it. their most complete and cohesive album. and the least annoying.
|
wierd.. i must be missing out on something , i rank it under feel and strawberry.....apart from my girls which as i have already said but will say again is amazing
|
i rank it under Taco's Puttin On The Ritz
|
It's alright.

You're saying you dnt like Taco? "Super duper!" |
i prefer the zero boys reissue of their first album.
|
It hasn't grown on me to the point of their other releases.
|
I have no desire to listen to this album.
|
Everything since Here Comes The Indian has left me completely cold.
It must be due to Peter Gabriel's absence from the group after that time. |

speaking of listening to this album.... i finally heard it. i went to play chess at a cafe and it came on. it's way overproduced and pretty bad. not as bad as "strawberry jam", but still bad. it didn't distract me from winning my chess match. |
seems mediocre to me still.
strawberry jam grew on me, so anything can happen. thank goodness it's not as turdtastic as feels. |
I just thought of a good band name: VaGenesis.
|
It reminds of YES bc of the vocal harmonies. Still, not a bad thing when you can do something new with it.

feels is so lame, thier only big misstep
|
Yeah, Feels is truly terrible.
This one at least has some great songs on it, even though a lot of songs drag. This band is boring half the time but half the time they're beautiful. |
I like FEELS. I just can't get into DANSE MANATEE. My favorite would probably be SPIRIT, though. That album is incredible.
|
Haha, Cape Fear is so funny.
I thought it was funny when Nolte said to Joe Don Baker's private eye character, "I want those three guys to do that job on Cady!" Baker goes casually "Sooner done the better, now three men's gonna cost you a grand, now ah know that's not exactly chicken feed, but it's better to overdo it!" Then he pours a large shot of bourbon and adds Pepto Bismo with it. |

you need to go nowhere further, trust me.

Everytime I listen to this, I like it more.

You should also listen to Bluish. It's my favorite from the album. |

DEFinitely one of my favs on there too. Amazing! "I'm getting lost in yr curls........" |
Taste is one of the best songs of all time.
Daily Routine is the jam. |
hey i just logged on at a friends house since i dont have the internet anymore to say that this album is shit and anyone sitting listening to my girls sub conciously fantasising about obama dancing with sasha and malia in some clean organic smoothie bar is a fucking idiot and should instead send their money to me for my new 3 song cassingle - slip apple - eat recession sugar - if yu want it PM me and ill get back to you whenever i next get online - i garauntee you its at least better than animal collective its only gonna be about £2.50 which doesnt even cover the costs of cassettes and electricity to run my lightbulbs and amp and usb mixer long enough to come up with and record the songs and the laptop and printer to print out the cover art and also the ink cartridge refills i need so you also get the whole ethical buzz there
|
Comparing to Genesis loses me instantly.
|
I only like 2 tunes off the new one thus far. Also Frightened and the one after that. I respect their experimentation and originality, but as songs they're not doing it for me.

Actually, that's pretty true. While most of the album is at least listenable, those are the only songs that stick out in my mind as GREAT. |
Also Frightened is my 2nd-least favorite song.
|
Curious what your 7th least favorite is, your 8th kinda-favorite-but-not-really-favorite is, your 3rd this-is-the-best-animal-collective-song-ever is, your 64th favorite unreleased favorite song, your 3rd favorite fake-animal-collective-song-someone-on-some-message-board-did-for-fun-and-said-it-was-from-the-new-album-before-the-album-leaked............
etc. |
