Polvo back with a new albums soon???!!!!
is this old news?
from their myspace: "Back to the Lab Hi, guys, Dave here. I just wanted to mention that Polvo is entering the studio in mid-March to record our 1st album in 12 years. We are recording with Brian Paulson at Echo Mountain in beautiful downtown Asheville, North Carolina. More details are forthcoming, except to say that we are really excited to finally get into the studio. Thanks for the continued support. We'll be in touch." poll on the way:eek: |
obviously sub question.
Touch and Go isn't going to release this, are they? |
Old news: That they're back (they've already released a live album on itunes or whatever, one of those pay-per-song stores, from their reformation period).
Bad news: Touch and Go is dead. New (to me) but good news: New album. Bad to me: Shapes sucks. |
Quote:
Shapes sucks? erm what about "No it doesn't., It's awesome"? huh? What are you gonna say to that, big boy, huh? :D |
I like a few songs but compared to the rest of their material it's bloated, uncreative, and even boring. It's an okay record, but it's a bad Polvo record.
|
I'd kindly accept a new Polvo album. What a genius band... I tuned to the Polvo tuning today and got so many cool guitar lines out of it.
|
What is the Polvo tuning, Derek? I'll try that. Thx

Yeah, for years I played in GGCCCE, but I experimented with EBAGAF and DAAGDD as well. Now I just play open d.
|
Are a lot of people here familiar with this ep?
![]() I have the MP3 and it sounds very much like a crazy Sebadoh on acid, but i had never seen the actual cover... Is it rare? |
Yeah it was GGCCCE I was playing in.
|
Probably not as rare as the Erectus Monotone split!
|
Quote:
I have no idea if it is rare but I own it... I was lucky enough to see polvo in the 90's. |
that EP is rare enough.
Polvo rules. I hope the new one is full of energetic skronk. I am getting sick and tired of bland droney skronk. |
I got this bad mofuck, 3 X 7" vinyl, and it rules and it rules and it rules rules rules so much
![]() I spent a decade looking for it. |
I'm excited. I only recently got into them a year or two ago and they've quickly become one of my favorite bands. New albums by reunited bands don't have to suck, as proved by a few bands quite recently.
So fuck yeah! And I hope they tour! |
Yeah, read this like a month ago. And yeah, Shapes has some good tunes like Enemy Insects (would be even better if they emphasized those power chord parts) and El Rocío but not much else sparks much interest.
I do like the new songs they've played live though, so that is promising. |

It does ;) |

There's a criminally lost band, Erectus Monotone. Their Close Up ep is fantastic, i think. You all have Polvo's Mexican Radio too? Decent cover version of a great tune. |
Yes!!!
Excellent. |
Sorry to bump this semi-old thread, but according to David Brylawski in a recent interview with Mark Prindle, Brian Paulson (Who produced Spiderland) is producing their new record. Full quote:
"Does the new album transcend '90s indie rock? Yes. I would like to think so. Yeah, that's a good question! I don't think our new album sounds like '90s indie rock. It's hard to say what it is now. I haven't really listened to it enough. But I just think it's really cohesive, and we've been able to harness something that we weren't able to harness ten years ago. Power. Hopefully. I mean, I'm not trying to be self-aggrandizing here. Okay. I hope that comes through in the recording. I guess it should come through in the recording. We're far enough now - It's really good. Brian Paulson did it. He did "Spiderland." The shit sounds good." This record should be great. Only has I believe nine songs and eight of them are apparently really long according to David. ~Jeremy~ |
Yeah, I bet it'll probably sound exactly like Black Taj too. Greedrex, be thrilled! Haha.
|
Also, did anyone know Six Finger Satellite was back and have a new album? It's on Load, which is funny, since nearly every Load band ripped off Six Finger Satellite. Strangely, they're one of my all time favorite bands (well, in the top 500 definitely!), and yet I have no interest in hearing it. All these reforming bands... man...
anyway, the Polvo disc should be fun. I'd rather listen to Mark Prindle's "smilehouse" again though. |
I'm glad someone else agrees with me on Shapes. First song is cool, the rest are like "huh?"
I couldn't believe the inconsistency of that album, as if it was a fuckin joke or something. |
It's them trying to be a rock band. It's embarassing. Hated the Hendrix posturing on that one song. The first song is good as are moments on the really long song. The rest sounds half-written and shitty.

Brian Paulson? Fuck yeah.:D |

I actually thought it was meant to be the total opposite of that. Not one song on there even sounds like they were trying to make a proper song, just fucking about, and not in a good way. Aside from Enemy Insects, the rest of the songs play out like the bad songs on Exploded Drawing (which, IMO, is Polvo's masterpiece) |
Yeah, it's got all these posteured rock moves and then random moments where they throw in instruments they don't know how to play. Just a bland album from every angle.
|
What's that banjo-like instrument that pops up on Shapes and Exploded Drawing? It's mostly heard in the short interlude-type tracks.
|
a sitar?!
|
It's not twangy enough
|
I like Shapes. Sure, it's uneven but its got more than Enemy Insects on it. I hear the classic rock in places, which is weird, but i like the album as a whole.
I'm real excited to hear something new. I have the live thing they did and liked the 2 or 3 new songs i heard. |
Shapes is pretty good, the quiet songs on it are dead good. The really long one is dead pretty. It does sound like half an amazing album, but thats still more than enough for me.
|
Really looking forward to some new Polvo despite my dislike for "Shapes". I've tried listening to it recently and I think I dislike even more than when it was released--it just seems like they took a few steps back. While Libraness (solo Ash) is a bit uneven I prefer it to "Shapes" any day.
|
Sorry to bump again, but figured it would be better than just posting a new topic:
They (re)signed to Merge and their new record titled "In Prism" will come out in September. A glorious birthday month for me! Between Farm, The Eternal, There Is No Enemy, PJ's new record, and this, I'm pretty excited. Lots of great stuff coming out this year. ~Jeremy~ |
fuck yeah!
|
In Prism track listing:
1. Right the Relation 2. D.C. Trails 3. Beggar’s Bowl 4. City Birds 5. Lucia 6. Dream residue/Work 7. The Pedlar 8. A Thousand Waves Interesting titles there, my favorite is "A Thousand Waves". Again, according to Dave all except one go long, so potentially it could be a long record (Like Perfect From Now On for the new millennium). Now please leak! ~Jeremy~ |
Holy shit new Polvo is sooner than I thought :D
|
That's a good new, damn, it makes my day !!!
Concerning Shapes, well, it's not that bad, there're few amazing songs (not as good as Today's and Exploded ones though), but it really sounds like their swansong... And the cover is awful. But it's the 1st Polvo album I bought, I can't dislike it. |
nice nice
i will check it out before buying though.... |
