Polo Shirts
I'm in the market for some new ones. I could go for the classic of classics, the lacoste, or try another brand.
Who else besides Lacoste makes a good one these days. |
Ralph Lauren makes good ones.
I have one that's original and 5 that I bought in Bangkok for one tenth the price of the original one. Funny thing is, the quality's comparable. |
Lyle and Scott.
You'll end up looking like a twat though. Just go to American Apparel. |
Lacoste make the best ones. They are the best and love the male body.
|
but how much did it cost you getting to bangkok in order to buy the buggers?

This is so true. I went out and bought five a couple of months ago (Chemise ones, not the silly American version). I'm having an absolute love affair with Lacoste right now. And its reciprocated! |
actually, if I were British, i'd go for Fred Perry. There's something attractive about that brand ... or maybe it's just the fact you can't get it in my country.
it sort of symbolises British fashion to me. ![]() |
Demonrail, over the past couple of years I've checked out a hell of a lot of polos. I've found TWO brands that are any good: J. Crew and Fred Perry. The latter is harder to find and more expensive, at least here in the states. J. Crew makes very classic, traditional polos that fit slim. Another advantage with J. Crew is that there's never an ugly logo visible anywhere on the outside of the shirt. Logos ruin even the best polos, I think.
Whatever you do, buy your polo in a slim fit. There's nothing worse looking on a guy than a baggy polo. And do not--DO NOT--wear a tee shirt underneath. Also never ever tuck them in, unless you wanna look like an office-cubicle geek. |

about 4-5 USD / each ,,, sorry, I misunderstood. I've had a couple of wine glasses tonight already. anyways, yeah, the airfare was pricey, but once being there, I couldn't miss the Chatuchak market and the hidden gems revelations. |
Fred Perry too. Another label dedicated to making the male body look smart. Good call, slavo.
|
Fred Perry or J. Crew. Good call, slavo.
|
What's J.Crew?
|

Fred Perry ones are nice, but they have vague subcultural attachments then tend to undermine their otherwise classic neutrality. Regarding the 'slim fit' issue. this is kind of inevitable even if I get them in xxl, I'm afraid. I'll check out the J. Crew ones. I'm surprised you see no beauty in the (Chemise, it has to be Chemise) Lacoste ones. |
Exhibit A: one J. Crew Polo Shirt.
![]() I'm less than inspired. |
Ugh, stripes. No! Bad example. You want a solid color, my friend.
Lacoste are okay in terms of fit and design. Don't they usually have a logo on the breast, though? That's a pet peeve of mine. I don't wear anything that bears an outside logo, aside from my Jack Purcell trainers. I generally also tend to stay away from bright colors in polos. Safe bets are navy, dark or sage green. A white might work, depending on what you wear with it. But stay away from yellows, pinks, pastels. And those fucking stripes! |

Fred Perry are very nice. I'd buy them if I could find them around here.

Strongly disagree. I have this exact one: ![]() and I look like a badass mofo in it. It really suits me well. |

Fred Perry and Lacoste have logos you should wear with pride. |

Nice. |
if its a problem with the logo on the breast, then fair enough. They are beautiful though.

It's about the spacing of the stripes. |

girls love it. |

true. also, Tommy Hilfiger makes neat ones, but they're too expensive. |
I really dont like to wear them.
maybe its bcause almost anybody who wears them is a snobbish yuppie around here. still prefer tees |

They do, I agree. I just can't disassociate them from the whole Brit-Pop/New Mod thing now. I've got a chocolate brown one with orange stripes, it's lovely, but I do feel a bit like an ex-member of the Bluetones whenever I wear it. |

Yeah. I'm curious where you found that image, DR. I've not seen that on the J. Crew catalog or in stores. And I'm all-too-familiar with both. If you go with J. Crew, go with the "repp" style. If you're not slim (and there's nothing wrong with that) you might want to stay away for the "tailored" polo and go with their regular fit. Both are good fits, but the regular is more for the bigger physique. |
I got a nice cheap maroon one at a Banana Republic outlet. No visible brand names, and a nice slit pocket. I <3 it.
|
|
The problem I have with Banana Republic is that they don't look traditional enough. The fit may be okay, but they do odd things with the collars and extra buttons and stuff like that.
It depends on what you want, but when it comes to things like polos, I lilke something that looks as classic and traditional as possible. |
I refuse to wear polo shirts.

I don't understand this thing about men and facial hair at all, at the moment. I have a problem with that, since it doesn't look smart, and men look better when they shave. My mum told me. |
Quote:
Fred Perry looks like a really effeminate dude version of ScreamingSkull in that 2nd picture. |
I've never understood it. I can't think of any man ever who looked good with a mustache and/or beard.
|
Quote:
What the fuck are you talking about? Go get high or something. |
![]() This is nice |
Quote:
Another winner. And affordable to match. |
Quote:
I remember you bragging about bearded men some time ago. |
Quote:
I'm shaving my beard off before the end of next week because my mum's coming over and she'll give me untold aggro the entire time she's here if I've got one. This is ridiculous. I'm a 38 year old man, and I'm absolutely terrified of my mum. |
