Star Trek nerds please answer my question!

What is the name of the episode where no one can see Spock? I want to see it again and I can't locate the title.

Sonic Youth 37 05.10.2009 10:51 PM

Star Trek III: The Search for Spock?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Search_for_Spock

Lamont Cranston 05.10.2009 10:59 PM

its not that 'no one can see Spock' in that film, but rather that he is...dead.

EyeballGrowth 05.10.2009 11:00 PM

Because he is either moving hyper fast or in another sphere or dimension. It's an episode of the original series

phoenix 05.11.2009 07:52 PM

wow there really are a LOT of geeky threads today on the first page..

floatingslowly 05.11.2009 09:45 PM

I like the one where he fucks a green alien...oh wait....that's every other episode.

EyeballGrowth 05.11.2009 10:47 PM

Yea I went through every one of those. Couldn't find it

I found my two other favorite episodes however. " The Doomsday Machine "

and " This Side of Paradise "

phoenix 05.11.2009 10:51 PM

maybe it wasnt the original series? Or maybe it was only part of the storyline and not the main plot?

I dunno. I was more a next gen than original star trek person. And even then I don't remember entire episodes. :P

EyeballGrowth 05.11.2009 10:57 PM

I grew up watching the 60's reruns, but also the Next Generation which my mom would always have on at dinner, but yeah I definately like the original series MUCH better. Though some of the episodes are unbelievably awful, lots of them are amazing. I wanted to see them again because I just decided after much deliberation that I am going to go ahead and see the new Star Trek movie

I also enjoy it because I am kind of obsessed with 60's tv and film soundtracks.

As for the invisible spock episode. I believe he performs some type of lightning speed repair on the ship just as it is about to fatally malfunction and no one can see him because of his speed. I could be wrong, all I remember is that spock could not be seen but they could detect that he was there through other means.

phoenix 05.11.2009 11:00 PM

maybe you should find a original series trek forum and ask. Im sure you would get a response VERY quickly.

for me its next gen, original series.... then everything else sucks. Do you just like sci fi from this era?

EVOLghost 05.11.2009 11:07 PM

Can't tell ya....it's a Trekky secret.

phoenix 05.11.2009 11:11 PM

HA!

I'm traveling through time at the speed of regular time with my time travel head bag!

I want to time travel back to when I was not infected with some kind of disgusting flu/head cold. :(

Oh no way. I like it from all era's. Brave New World from 1932, Edward E Smith's Lensman books from the 40's, Johanson's and Asimov's books from the 50's, Burgess's Novels, Star Trek , and 2001: A Space Odyssey from the 60's ( my all time favorite movie ), Philip K. Dick books and Frank Herbert's Dune novels from the 70's ( my all time favorite books ), Blade Runner, William Gibson's Sprawl trilogy, Douglas Adams's spoof novels, and Bubblegum Crisis from the 80's, Ghost in the Shell ( the movie ) from the 90's

phoenix 05.11.2009 11:26 PM

sorry, I worded that badly, I meant... did you like the over all style of film from the 60's, or just the sci fi stuff :P

But good answer anyway. Should keep it in this thread though, if the front page gets any nerdier, the bb software/database may implode.

I'm just poking fun, yr poast speed seemed excessive(buzzzed), but this may be due to ++game content of threads noted in my last reply............................................. .................................

floatingslowly 05.11.2009 11:29 PM

MY POST SPEED?

have we met?

ha

phoenix 05.11.2009 11:31 PM

I have to say, I DONT miss the days where I often ran into 'you can only post once every 15 seconds' errors.

floatingslowly 05.11.2009 11:39 PM

sometimes, I miss:

and by sometimes, I mean, all the time.

Yes. Very much so, the films, the music, and the soundtracks of the late 60's/early 70's. Probably because I grew up watching The Avengers, Godzilla Movies, Star Trek, and 70's Sesame Street reruns

DeadDiscoDildo 05.11.2009 11:45 PM

So who here has actually seen the new movie?

I was never a big Star Trek fan, I was younger and had a short attention span so all the intellectual shit bored me and I was more into Star Wars because Jedi are cooler.

BUT

Star Trek was always on when I grew up, dad was a big fan...remember always watching next generation and even Voyager sometimes with my dad, it was the only way I was allowed to stay up.

As I got older I still didnt quite like the cheesiness/campiness of it all, and the next generation was more political and boring rather than wild west....But even though some of the scientific shit was interesting...especially now that we have cell phones...etc. it just couldnt capture my attention....

I may be coming around, I dunno....but I really liked this movie haha.

I know some of you UBER nerds are pissed about the way they "changed" things, but I thought it was done rather brilliantly, changing...without...changing.

ya know?

EDIT: god damn, I need to gather thoughts in shorter sentences....

anyway,

SHORT POST:

Good action
Actually felt like a massive star ship
It was believable
decent story
Beastie Boys
Pretty rad movie

I haven't yet but I will this week probably.

People always hate movies when made from cult status anything. Can't please em all. I actually really enjoyed the first ... 5/6?th of the wolverine origins film. (everyone seems to hate it)..

imo you cannot escape a certain amount of cheesi-ness when making film about sci fi or comic/graphic novels. More so in the latter two. It's part of what makes it good.

The music of Sven Libaek and his orchestra.

Two original albums and a slew of incredible TV Series soundtracks. The man is one of my all time favorite musicians. Warm beautiful atmospheric jazz. All of his music is long out of print. You can download most of it for free here:http://pecksspetrips.blogspot.com/search?q=sven+libaek

Some of my favorites:

Godzilla vs The Sea Monster 1966, by Masaru Sato
Goldfinger by John Barry

and Alexander courage's early scores

phoenix 05.12.2009 12:08 AM

thanks!

I'm planning to see it this week. Of all the things I've heard about it (Spoilers), there are only two things that bother me. One is the actor who plays Kirk. When I first saw him I thought to myself " Uggh. He looks like a male model " Only to find out he really IS. He's got that whole pursed lips, dawson's creek look. Bad choice. I'll have to watch it to see, but still, bad choice

The 2nd thing is the Beastie Boys. COME ON!! You're gonna sit there and tell me Beastie Boys music and classic cars belong in a movie that is supposed to take place in the year 2300?

Rob Instigator 05.12.2009 09:22 AM

I love the original, the next gen, and deep space 9

floatingslowly 05.12.2009 09:47 AM

I'm on episode #65 of the Star Trek: Enterprise series.

I started watching because the vulcan makes my probe rigid, but I ended up getting kind of hooked. :o

Maybe not classic cars, but isn't this only supposed to take place a few hundred years from now?

...We still listen to Classical music right? haha. How old is that again?

& the way technology is headed/is at this current moment, why couldnt Beastie Boys exist?

But I know what you mean, I'm just saying, it isn't out of the question.

As far as Kirk goes, I thought the same thing...didn't think that guy would be any good...

The movie changed my mind. I thought it was a good performance. The character developement seemed to fit, on all fronts really.

EyeballGrowth 05.12.2009 01:34 PM

Yea it's 300 years from now but come on. Beastie Boys? come on. Beastie Boys fucking rule, but come on

And yeah I was glad to hear they portrayed Kirk as a reckless hoodlum youth. I dunno, I'll have to see. I absolutely hate everything else that director has ever done, I'm really just going to see it because the special effects look kick ass

DeadDiscoDildo 05.12.2009 02:20 PM

I don't like MI3, Alias, or that stupid movie about the monster in NYC, but I LOVE Lost. As long as you don't talk shit about that, we're cool.

But who gives a shit. See the movie and form yr own opinion, the special effects alone will make you like it, best I've seen in a long time.

The opening sequence is unreal....

See it in IMAX if you can.

Well, I guess we are not cool anymore. Just saw it for the first time when my friend made me sit through an episode. Truly one of the worst things I've ever watched. Sorry man, you had to say it
