This is different than the "sy gossip casualties" thread.

This is to commemorate those who have died that were members of this forum. Serious thread -- please no disrespect.

I'd also like to use this thread to ask... how would you (or, rather, WOULD YOU) let people know, on here, if you die? I mean, do you have friends or family that would let everyone on here know?

In my case, my girlfriend has known that I've posted here since I was 14 (and she secretly posts here herself), so I'm sure she'd let everyone know if I died....

A lot of us boardies are connected on facebook too. So if one of us was suddenly getting a bunch of 'RIP' wall posts, then.. yeah.

It may be the last thing, but it should still be something to consider. I mean, say for instance Rob Instigator died (sorry Rob). Don't you think people here would want to know? And if you were the family of the deceased, wouldn't you want people who know that person to know about it?

What brought this on ASP? Did somebody die?

Though my wife knows I'm on here daily. I'm sure she'd tell you all.

Well, actually, I'm friends with someone on myspace who hasn't logged in in a while. She was posting bulletins all the time. I only met her once, so I didn't really "know" her, but anyway I went on her page today and found out she had been dead for a while. All these comments: "RIP!" "WE MISS YOU SO MUCH!" etc etc etc. So, I got on mydeathspace (http://mydeathspace.com/) and was looking at shit and it just got me thinking.

I do remember reading in "post comething completely irrelevant" a few months ago that a member of this board had died recently.

and the problem is....for every 1 person on the internet that actually dies, there are at least 10 pretending to have (the most common way being - the "family member of poster registers to tell everyone" technique).

without pointing fingers, I think it's kind of a-hole-ish to make jokes about this thread. I mean Adam is trying to make a serious thread, is saying that some one he knew recently died, and that perhaps a lesser-known member of our board has recently died, AND he even requested that we not make jokes here. So c'mon.

the chances of me dying anytime soon are pretty small though.

I'll put it in my will to notify the SY board of any untimely demise, for sure.

I understand that, but really, you c'mon. This what we do here. Joking about something can sometimes be the best way to handle something as serious as death, and it isn't a sign of disrespect (which is actually what he asked us not to do, he didn't say not to make jokes).

Besides, he didn't come on here and say "Hey (blank) just died, let's discuss it and please be serious." It's a general thread about if somebody dies here, and it wasn't until later in the thread that he mentioned someone may have died, so I really see no need to be so serious about this.

for me sometimes sympathy sorta goes without saying and i often forget not all people are like that. if i pissed anyone off or made a sad situation sadder, sorry

he's not the only one who knew someone recently died.

I know. I wasn't trying to be uptight, I just felt that the thread was starting to stray a bit, and get a bit too jokey (and I understood the laughter as best medicine aspect as well). I was just trying to bring it back to a bit of seriousness is all.

And I co-sign what Rob said. I do think of you guys as like pen-pals or something. I don't do myspace or facebook or any of that crap. But I'm always here.

Yes, and maybe I interpreted this wrong, but typically when somebody here says they want a serious thread, I take it to mean that they actually want to talk about the topic they started the thread about, and not have it spin off into obscurity 4 posts into it.

If there is a real reason to be serious here and I did misinterpret this, I am sorry.

True dat. I've tried, lordy I've tried, but I can't hang around another board like I do here.

I've tried a couple over the years, but never found another community like this one. When I first started posting here it would only be about SY, but more and more branched out -- and with quite a few of you feel like I've made some eFriends.

I don't mind if people joke. I guess I was just saying... don't be too tasteless. If we start talking about people that have passed on, please don't say something like "oh, well, fuck that guy, he posted a bunch of bullshit. I neg-repped him 40 times." You know? If you're going to joke about dead people, go to the David Carradine thread and post "HEH, LOOKS LIKE THEY KILLED BILL."

death fucking sucks. there's not even really a spectrum, it just all out sucks. when your family members die, it sucks. when your friends die, it sucks.

I'm sorry for paving a humor post too fast. And mourning is kinda a weird thing too. Hang in there, and actually it is probably good you were able to post about it. I know a few people here have lost people close to them, and it is isn't some easy quip to absolve.

Oh, I'm not mourning or anything. No one close to me has died since August. I am just genuinely curious about how people would handle their "internet death", I guess.
