Kim Songs vs. Thurston songs
 

i kno this has prolly been done COUNTLESS times, but oh well.

which do YOU prefer? KIM songs ---or--- THURSTON songs?? (explain)

Thurston because he writes his and some of Kim's. My Friend Goo is obviously a Kim song...Pattern Recognition is not (the music at least).

Kim's singing can be hard to listen to sometimes.

Kim. Not by much. I used to prefer Thurston, but I find that Kim has sooo many different styles of singing.

They way Thurston sings now bothers me.

I like Thurston's songs because I can actually sing them.

Kim's singing isn't THAT strange. Everyone's acting like she records her vocals underwater with a megaphone attached to an octave pedal or something. They sound like pretty normal vocals to me, and they're good too.

i like kim's vocal aesthetix. her vocals really frame a song better than thurston's vocals.

as far as songwriting goes, im not really sure exactly who writes what. but kims actual voice is much more interesting.

Kim has the best voice of the two. Her latest writing is pure delight..

Lee songs.

But if it has to be either T or K, then T.

i do love alot of kim's songs like sweet shine and on the strip etc, but i also hate a lot pf her songs, Thurstons songs are always good.

there is an article in this months uncut where they ask kim and thurston questions to see if they really know eachother as a couple. they both scored 6 out of 10.

You can't have one without the other. They both compliment each other well...

Kim's done some great stuff, but when it comes down to it, most of my favorites are Thurston's. My top 5 is probably 1 Kim, 1 Lee, 3 Thurston.

There's not one Lee song I don't like.

Thurston is obvioulsy the better songwriter, although Kim has had a few memorable songs. I just can't quite get into her singing. Too raspy. I know that most of the band members aren't exactly known for their singing abilites (except for Lee) but my god! Her voice just gets to me sometimes. Then again, sometimes it doesn't. Her lyrics are also less intersting and less weell composed than Thurston's. I'm glad she's in the band, though. If she left, it would suck.

Her vocals on Sonic Nurse and Rather Ripped have been much more listenable than in the past. I also agree that Thurston's singing has been weak lately. He sounds tired, bored and uncaring. It's like he's really not into doing it anymore. Rather Ripped really reflects that for me.

if youre talking in terms of lyrics, it's kim, hands down.

look at rather ripped for instance... reena's lyrics are the best on the album. lights out are the worst.

Agreed. Kim's lyrics seem more inspired, and less random.

I love kims singing. Washing Machine is the ultimate Kim Song. Starts off quite harsh, and then melts into the final part really nicely.

they all write the music together. when we discuss kim or thurston songs we are only referring to the lyrics.

i prefer thurston songs over kim's but lee songs are my favourite

Lee kicked at the Austin Show. Ive been a Sonic Youth fan since I could buy my own music but I never knew he was so talented on vocals. I wouldnt give up Kims songs and I wouldnt give up Thurstons.

its hard to choose. i guess they're both equal, but i just prefer thurston more

dont give up on rather ripped thurston songs. they are really awesome and the magic is there i promise you.

Overall, it's fairly even, but a list of my top twenty SY songs would probably conain more Kim songs, espeially right at the top of the list.

Kim-sung songs are generally more enjoyable to me. Thurston's wear off faster.

I looked at my top 25 most played SY songs on iTunes and it was: 13 Thurston, 10 Kim, 2 Lee.
