Rate this candy bar out of 10.

I used to love these, but something about it turns me off now.

6/10

Rupert 'Stiles' Stilinski 06.28.2009 03:11 PM

It also used to be my favorite on Halloween. Now I need the nuts of a snickers bar. The thought of this on a hot summer day makes me sick.

5/10

jennthebenn 06.28.2009 03:12 PM

A poor man's Snickers. 5/10

EVOLghost 06.28.2009 03:16 PM

There's only one candy bar I like....Snickers.

stu666 06.28.2009 03:18 PM

In the uk this is a mars bar and i rate it 7/10.
A milky way here is like this but has no caramel.

Rupert 'Stiles' Stilinski 06.28.2009 03:32 PM

This sounds like a Johnny Carson joke. "In the UK they call a Milky Way a Mars bar. And a Milky Way over there has no caramel, so it is what we call a Three Musketeers... I did not know that."

Gumby Institute of Candy Controversies
Milky Way® = Mars® Bar?
("Mars® Bar" is a registered trademark of the Mars, Inc.)

Fig. 2: U.S. Milky Way Bar Wrapper

Fig. 1: Canadian Mars Bar Wrapper
Abstract: The apparent similarity between the Canadian Mars Bar and the United States Milky Way was theorized after examination between the two Countries' Mars Bars reveiled that both were of a different species. The U.S. Milky Way Bar does indeed display an amazing similarity to the Northern Mars Bar. And like the Canadian bars, the Milky Way Bars also include the warning: "May Contain Peanuts." Why the big "cover-up" is anyone's guess.

Fig. 3: Sample MW1010US

Fig. 4: Sample MB1010CA
The samples analylized here, (Figures 3 & 4 above), are of the small "Halloween Handout" varieties, available in both countries around the time of the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain. However, unlike the Mars Bars, the "Fun Size" Milky Ways have been observed on store shelves during the Celtic festivals of Oester and Yule as well. The size of the Milky Way, like the U.S. Mars Bar, dwarfs its Canadian counterpart. The ingredients, while not identical, are indeed of a similar make-up, (see table below).
Country: Weight: Ingredients: United States 20 grams
.8 ounce
Milk Chocolate, (Sugar, Cocoa Butter, Chocolate, Lactose, Skim Milk, Milkfat, Soy Lechithin, Artificial Flavor), Corn Syrup, Sugar, Partially Hydrogenated Soybean Oil, Skim Milk, Less than 2% - Milkfat, Cocoa Powder Processed with Alkali, Lactose, Malted Barley, Wheat Flour, Salt, Egg-Whites, Artifical Flavor, Soy Protein Canada 17 grams
.5 ounce
Sugar, Corn Syrup. Milk Ingredients: Hydrogenated Soybean & Palm Oil, Cocoa Butter, Cocoa Mass. Modified Milk Ingredients: Malted Milk Powder, Malted Barley Wheat Flour, Sodium Bicarbonate. Cocoa, Soy Lechithin, Salt, Dried Egg-White, Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Artifical Flavour
The initial conclusion is that the Milky Way Bar sold in the United States is indeed of the same species as the Canadian Mars Bar. The differences being a slightly lighter color of the Milky Way, no doubt fostered to keep with the implied "lightness" of the name.

For "Canadian" you can read "European" too.

Also, European Milky Ways come in blue wrappers

and if you break them open they look like this

The American Milky Ways are sold as Mars here, like Stu said.

pokkeherrie 06.28.2009 03:43 PM

(European) Milky Way - 5/10
Mars - 7/10

I prefer hazelnut chocolate bars

Antagon 06.28.2009 03:59 PM

Never really liked Milky Way (And yeah it is marketed as "Mars" in Europe)

My favourite is probably Lion. Very popular in Europe

8/10

EVOLghost 06.28.2009 04:00 PM

^^ looks like a twix

joe11121 06.28.2009 04:03 PM

Mars = 7
Milky Way = 5

Antagon 06.28.2009 04:06 PM

Yeah it indeed looks a bit like Twix but the taste is different. But well, the crunchy feeling when you bite in it is quite similar.

pbradley 06.28.2009 04:06 PM

Candy bars are ≤6 out of 10.

Other words, I hate candy bars unless we include stuff like Abba-Zaba.

_slavo_ 06.28.2009 04:07 PM

My favourite is this one without any doubt:

pokkeherrie 06.28.2009 04:09 PM

Kit Kat 6.5/10
Lion 7/10
Twix 8/10
Snickers 9/10

pbradley 06.28.2009 04:13 PM

Frozen Snickers are also another notable exception.

It's good that you edited that second line in, because I was about to believe you rated all candy bars 6 or higher...unless the American ≥ means ≤ in Europe/Canada.

SYRFox 06.28.2009 04:25 PM

I like this thread

Mars (American Milky Way): 7/10
European Milky Way: 9/10
Lion: 7/10
Twix: 8/10
Snickers: 6/10
Kit Kat: 9/10
Flakes: 100/10

^^^ pretty much one of the best things ever

dirty bunny 06.28.2009 04:36 PM

I've seen flakes rarely. They're ok. My favourites:

Coffee Crisp 10/10
Cerises 10/10 (another rarity)
Eat-More 9/10
Wunderbar 9/10

ploesj 06.28.2009 05:41 PM

give me real chocolate anytime. candybars, not so much.

demonrail666 06.28.2009 06:43 PM

7/10 - Chewy and chocolaty. Like a Mars bar on steroids.

6/10 - Reeks of sophistication but can get a bit sickly before you finish the whole bar.

9/10 - The daddy of chocolate bars. No frills but oozing heritage and class.

10/10 - If Black Sabbath were a chocolate bar, they'd be a Yorkie. Thick, heavy and designed for men with beards.

No, I fucked up. I should proofread my posts more often.

pbradley 06.28.2009 08:39 PM

One fond memory of visiting Ireland when I was 13 is being offered a "biscuit" at one of the bed & breakfasts along the way and turning it down thinking of the North American usage. The lady then opened a cupboard fill with various chocolate covered Cadbury confections and I had a sugar-gasm.

SuperCreep 06.28.2009 08:43 PM

The only candy bar I've ever liked:

Even then, it's still a 7/10.
