Goldfrapp
One of the best bands of the last decade? Yes.
I almost started shitting rainbows and butterflies when I first heard Seventh Tree. Alison's like an attractive, vocally gifted version of Madonna. Please, the majority of you tell me they suck straight away, so that the few people who agree with me can discuss. ![]() |
I really enjoyed their first album. I haven't listened to them for quite some time though.
|
Ok, I'll get my "she sucks" out of the way now so you can continue.

Haven't we all? They're okay I guess but just kinda 'there' to me. Nothing I'd run out and buy or ever think to put on...kinda like Air I guess. |
They suck straight away.

"Black Cherry" is an amazing song

That's just like in Home Alone, when Kevin says, "Goodnight, Kevin!" |
I don't think that first record she put out is too bad (I don't know the others), it's jus that 'coffee table' seems like a term that was invented to describe her music.
|
Actually, yesterday, while driving, I was talking about this with my girlfriend because we had the radio on and some nu-jazz or something was playing. She told me that it's that kind of music that's suitable as a background soundrack for sitting in a café, chatting to your friends and not letting yourself be too bothered by the music. Which is true. But putting it on in your home stereo with the intention to actually listen to it? No, thanks.
|
I like them, but yeah it's this kind of music that comes on the radio and you think that's nice and never think about again
|
Felt Mountain is a great album. I really love the mix of Morricone and Portishead on that one. I haven't cared too much about their stuff after that, though there are a handful of good tunes.
|
Seventh Tree is like a softer expansion of the sounds and themes of Felt Mountain. It's so pretty. The two middle Albums are pretty much glam-rock meets club music. (I prefer the first and most recent).
I find them to be a very diverse and satisfying act and far from background music, as I've lately been playing their pop/rock stuff in the car and their folk stuff at bedtime. Their melodies are gorgeous and their songs are overflowing with hooks. In honor of summer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBzYG6Nz8D8 |

Is there any way to ban specific posters from my threads?

What could be so suggestively offensive about two beautiful women spewing forth life's liquid into one anothers mouth? Its what came up when I google "Goldfap''..... |
Firstly, it's spelled Goldfrapp. So you should have started a 'Goldfap' thread of your own in which to display that drawing.
Secondly, I'm not necessarily offended. I love swallowing my boyfriend's cum. So if, from now on, I were to associate Goldfrapp with cum-guzzling I would probably love their music even more. I just don't enjoy having my threads derailed by childishness. You are banished! |

I was surprised by Felt mountain as it was far better than I expected, I haven't listened to the other albums as they don't seem to be as good.

If this post were a foodstuff, it'd be a /bHegel. |
Green Magnesium, dear, I hate to reiterate what everyone else has said but Goldfrapp is that kind of music that has no substantial listening value. In other words, it's horse shit.
|
There's plenty of amazing music in the world that lacks "substantial listening value." Isn't that what the best pop music is supposed to be?
I like Goldfrapp, but honestly I'd rather listen to Eurythmics for that sort of thing. |
Quote:
Amazing music without substantial listening value is the exception to the rule. Goldfrapp doesn't do anything 'amazing'. They make boring music that's best attempt isn't worth listening to. |

shiftyprophet can troll me anytime! And Hayden, I cannot take serious the opinion of a Joanna Newsom fan. I just can't :o |

Well, first of all, do you have a vagina? If yes, great. If no, can you cook really well? |
No to both, unfortunately :(

Is that a real book? I'd love to read it. (Not just cuz you recommended it either.)

I'm sorry, Joanna's classically trained harpings aren't cutesy and mediocre enough for you? |
Frappuccino and Goldschlager, right?

Her harp-playing is gorgeous... her vox are just a little too cutesy for my comfort. Of course, my angel, I was only bustin' ya to begin with. I just don't understand what you mean by "no substantial listening value". Is it supposed to move me to write a novel or save the rainforest?... 'cuz no music has been able to motivate my lazy ass into doing something quite so substantial. I've simply been on a bender lately, as I love Goldfrapp's voice and Gregory's arrangements. Her breezy pop melodies are some of the prettiest I've heard in a long time. I just can't understand how a song like 'Cologne Cerrone Houdini' could be interpreted as horse-shit. |
Goldfrapp are Peaches for people with heavy mortgage commitments.
|
Goldfrapp? Really?
|
Goldfrapp are music for people whose ears have the inability to discern 'good' from 'FUCK ME, WHY IS THIS HAPPENING? WHAT HAVE I DONE TO OFFEND THEE, O LORD?'.
|
Let's all agree that many people don't care much about Goldfrapp, shall we?
what does the name mean? |
Best thread ever.
|
Quote:
Why make that comparison, when the two acts sound nothing alike? Peaches is goofy fun, but I would never have drawn a connection between the two. It's like comparing Goldfrapp to Eminem or something. Quote:
Goldfrapp is simply the surname of the band's singer... I don't know what (if anything) it means beyond that. |

For what it's worth, in a world where there must be pop, I like em, hard to fuck with good pop. Although Lady Gaga seems to be ruling all at the minute, having taken any interesting good pop from the last five years, kicked it up to a hyper-real eleven and left everyone else looking silly..
perhaps this whole thread belongs on the "unpopular musical opinions" thread? |
