what's the rarest/most valuable item you own (music or otherwise)?

Honestly, I've sold most of my rare items (mostly video games.. Suikoden II, and Valkyrie Profile got me well over $100 each in better times!), and most of the stuff I have now that is rare/valuable is STILL video games (for example, I have marvel vs capcom 2 for the ps2... that's worth like $100)... but I still have a few other goodies:

- Amazing Spiderman # 1 (worth $40,000 in mint condition... passed down to me... unfortunately, this is far from mint, could still fetch a couple thousand I'm sure)
- an actual copy of Begotten (going for $90 last I looked)
- an actual copy of Nekromantik (goes for around $90 as well)
- an actual copy of the original cut of Murder-Set-Pieces (goes for something ridiculous like $230 ... I hate this movie .. I will get around to selling it soon)

Also, the 2 copies of Michael Jackson's "Thriller" on vinyl, in near-mint condition, I picked up for free at a landfill a few years ago are apparently worth some money on ebay right now so I'll be putting those up soon.

I know there's more but I can't think of.

Since Everyneurotic disappeared again, I'll say that he has an actual copy of The Futurist by Shellac! That's priceless.

Also, since my ...girlfriend... probably won't reply, I'll say that she has at least 3 dolls worth $500... so, there's her contribution to this thread.

Now, go!

al shabbray 07.08.2009 07:52 AM

snatcher - sega cd
michael jacksons moonwalker - genesis (maybe more valueable in the near future)

will think bout any more stuff

floatingslowly 07.08.2009 08:49 AM

I was going to say "a test pressing of The Revolting Cocks - Let's Get Physical (with original Olivia Newton John lyrics)", but then I realized that my house was probably more valuable.

house / RevCo

pick one. I'm not much on phyical possessions. I can't decide.

atsonicpark 07.08.2009 08:50 AM

Haha I have moonwalker as well. Gonna put that on ebay soon.

...I'm not a very possession-based person... hence why I sell just about everything I own. I am trying to get it down to a "15 rule". Basically, limit everything to 15... movies, games, books, and actual copies of cd's. Don't get me wrong, I'll have backed-up/burnt/emulated/etc. copies of things but I'd rather have the space. I kinda want everything I own to be able to fit into a computer box. I hate being tied down to STUFF.

That being said, I currently exist on 4 different computers which are all, to some extent, mine (the one I usually post from is my mom's but it has all my shit on it.. I often post from a computer my friend gave me that's at his house.. and I have a computer I left at my girlfriend's.. and I have a computer at my grandpa's..). I guess I should one day combine all the elements of each into one computer...

just the left leg. :o

_slavo_ 07.08.2009 09:04 AM

I don't have almost any valuable/rare items in my collection ... maybe the "Hood Tapes" tour CD signed by Hood's bass player and Mogwai's "Friend of the Night" 7inch signed by Stuart.
That's it.
My old 8-bit Atari 800 XE computer system is also an item I could sell for pretty much if I tried.

I don't think I own much valuable stuff, except perhaps for my 2 working kidneys and some recording equipment/pc stuff...music-wise I think my limited edition hand made silkscreened morkobot mostro LP+cd will become valuable.
HA!
same for the battery parl lp.
ha ha!

deadrockstar 07.08.2009 09:19 AM

I have Hank Marvins pink/orange guitar.

Not THE one, but one of 200 nonetheless. Probably my rarest item, not sure on its value though. Probably no more than a grand or two, hardly life-changing.

phoenix 07.08.2009 09:28 AM

it isn't that rare, but I'm sure i could get a couple grand for a kidney. I have two, so i'd still have one left in my collection of organs.

Why stop at kidneys? Lots of body parts come in pairs; lungs, eyes, limbs etc.

Newfoundland 07.08.2009 09:33 AM

A part of the grave chamber on a discovered viking ship. Donīt know how valuable it is, but its quite rare I think.

floatingslowly 07.08.2009 09:37 AM

^^^ that's awesome.

...the picture that I looked at to verify which lion the pink-suited flyer was in was backwards. I want blue lion.

I'm going to step backward now from the awkward moment very very slowly...

It's difficult precisely what, but I have a feeling it would something from my coin collection. I used to collect quite enthaustically in my youth but have all but quit due to it being an extremely expensive hobby. That said, my most valuable would be:

1. A Carson City Morgan Dollar from the 1880s? (not 100% on date without opening the safe) that was something around the $1,000 mark 7 or 8 years ago.
2. 1987 Full ounce gold US Bullion coin. These rise and fall with gold and usually go for 1.5 or 2x the price of gold. So it's a least $1,000

A rough estimate to the value of my entire collection (there's not a whole lot, but several boxes, a safe, various other things and the entire set of state quarters, both P and D mints) would be $15,000-20,000

what are your favourite numbers, say in a 4-digit combination?

Oh, and your address please

jon boy 07.08.2009 11:29 AM

i own a small chunk of the berlin wall.

Glice 07.08.2009 11:37 AM

I don't have anything of any massive value. A couple of records that are worth a bit, but nothing I could retire on. My family is poor, know what I'm saying?

i would imagine my apartment is worth some serious coin

!@#$%! 07.08.2009 11:55 AM

"valuable"-- no fucking clue. i have some fucked pirate coin that isn't worth much.

i thought of flotzer's house but if it's mortgaged i don't know.

paid-off possessions (not on a loan)-- i guess my car

you can steal it here:

1515 Eubank SE
Albuquerque, NM 87123

no combination necessary. just figure out how to hotwire it without triggering the security system and you're gold.

i also own a hovel in the sticks, but i ain't revealing its location-- that's where i'm bunkering down for the 'poclypse.

o wait-- do 2 metric tons of rice buried undergound count as "valuable"? we'll see in 2013 as famine strikes.

noisereductions 07.08.2009 12:02 PM

The Beck GOLDEN FEELINGS CD I have is pretty rare. Usually goes for $200-$300 on ebay last I checked. It was officially released on cassette, but then when Sonic Enemy re-released it on CD in 1999, Beck('s lawyers) pulled the plug on it and it was OOP within days.

Also, I have a copy of BLOOD LP by The Microphones with one of the original hand-painted covers. Goes for a LOT since it's such a limited run, vinyl-only and personalized by Phil.

both of these items I've sort of meant to sell on ebay for the past couple of years, but I never get around to it. (the only band I hardcore collect is SY [well, and Lindsay Lohan] so the rest of my stuff can be on CDR and it doesnt bother me. In fact MOST of the music I buy is digital to begin with anyway.

stu666 07.08.2009 12:06 PM

my car

Glice 07.08.2009 12:06 PM

I think with records, unless it's the Butcher album (which I don't believe 'Satan' owns), it's probably worth selling them when the band are something. I've inherited a few Wonder Stuff things that were probably worth a mint in 1991, but I'd be surprised if I got their purchase price now.

Model, make and year? Might want to up the insurance on it too, just tell them you put Porsche alloys on it or something.
