depression's got a hold on me...or something
(oops title should say hold of me....)
yeah so, i dont develop romantic feelings that often. in fact since my last girlfriend, four years ago, i never really saw myself with anyone. but over the past few months ive really gotten close to this girl. we really connect on a level that is really rare, and i had for a while doubted that i could connect with someone. and i am crazy about her. she is also an israeli christian arab. two days ago i told her how i felt and she said that although she feels the same, it can never be. the reason is that her ex boyfriend was also not an arab (but was christian,, so me being jewish, and israeli does not help) and her society turned their lives into a living hell, and she cannot go through that again, or have me go through that. long story short: i like girl, she likes me, but it can never be. so ive been pretty depressed these past two days. i hope i snap out of it soon. but i do feel pretty terrible. so yeah, just thought id share |
israeli christian arab
a minority, in a minority, in a racist country. That must be fun. But cheer up, you could be me I've never had a girlfriend. |
this is a sad thread. :(
dont be depressed. ummm. love conquers all. everything happens for a reason. etc. |
stupid religions! real love is above those crap! hit the road with her and go where you can love her in peace...and sex...ha! ha!
|
its true, agnostic is truth
anyhoo yeah thanks for the responses |
haha thanks.
dont get too worked up about it. itll be find. we are really good friends, i think i just need a few days of moping then ill be fine, or something... |
O the pain that hate brings into the world.
How dangerous would it be if you kept your relationship underground? |
but been agnostic it's not another religious position (against?) point of view of the same thing? of God?
|
Atheism for the win.

i feel that if i dont think that religious people cant prove that god exists, no one can really prove that there isnt anything out there. and i offered to keep it underground, but no go |
Eh. Being an Atheist, I don't really give a shit about any religion anyone chooses to follow unless they 1) attempt to shove it down my throat, 2) use it to harm others, 3) use it in a condescending manner against minorities, and 4) use it as a basis to think only they are correct and believe everything else should be rejected as it goes against the word of (insert religious book here).
How much happier would the world be without religion? it's hard to say. Although religion would no longer be used as a basis to hate entire groups of people, who's to say something else wouldn't take its place... |
Agnosticism is a good thing really. I don't trust anyone that claims to have all the answers. Is spirituality a necessary thing in human existence? For sure, at least in our present era...maybe one day it won't be. But to believe one religion above others is....to me, kinda weird, and probably unhealthy.
|
I love listening to atheologians talk about what they consider their selves to be.
|
o rly.
|
that's the main problem in the name of something spiritual, radical religious hate can ruin everything who was built with love (to poetic?)...you see? you don't belive in nothing Atheist or Agnostic but you already make your point of view!
|
I'm bored with the Western tradition of framing all metaphysical philosophy around the binary dilemma of God's existence. Most of it is the result of a poor understanding of what "God" means, anyway.
In the practical sense, I have no need of metaphysics. In the philosophical sense, I refuse to adopt a position. |
Too sad for you to even write a proper response, fugazifan. Well, I'll try...
The world is sick. And it's easy for a lot of us, in our country, with our upbringing, to say "fuck what people think, she shouldn't care what people think either!" since feelings of love are somewhat universal. However, things are completely different over there, I assume. And that's shit, man. |
aw you guys.....
i really wish that it was just a matter of her saying 'fuck what people say'. but theres so many other factors that go into it that i just will never understand. i mean for me if someone toold me something like "you traitor how can you date an arab' id say FUCK YOU. as well she might but she doesnt want her parents to have to deal with slander and whatnot. this can become a really big deal here. i mean if someone told my parents something around those lines, im sure that they would get a similar FUCK YOU but for her it is different. there is the whole family honor and stuff like that, which im pretty sure is a term foreign to almost EVERY american. |
Me and my muslim girlfriend have been underground for nearly two years now. tee hee

Exactly. You're both caught up in something that's bigger than either of you. It's horrible that you're in that situation but if you can remain friends then maybe at some point in the future things may be different. I hope so, anyway. Other than that you just have to put it down to the overall shittiness of life and simply try to move on. |
yeah exactly
thanks |

absolutely agreed, as about 'if everybody was agnostic'. fugazifan, hold on man! :) |
Fugazifan, I truly feel for you and have been through a similar situation. Yes, family honor is something that most western societies haven't a clue about and your situation is really a sad one. As demonrail has said the best is to try to stay together and keep the possibilities open for a relationship down the road. In my experience though, this is an agonizing ordeal, (at least it was for me) in that it is difficult to ''hang out'' and ''be friends'' with someone that you loves, loves you without having any proper intimacy.

this isn't about religion, this is about ideology and politics - of which religion merely plays a part. My family are from the protestant side of northern ireland and i know that were any of them to have tried to have a relationship with a catholic while they were there it would've been incredibly frowned upon, but for political reasons far more than anything else. A similar thing happened to me when I was going out with a catholic, but to a far lesser degree - simply because the religious divide isn't as politicised in England as it is in Northern Ireland. Israel is a place, like Northern Ireland, where religion is inherently politicised. That's what I meant about Fugazifan being caught up in something far bigger than something that might on the surface appear to be little more than wanting a relationship that crosses two faiths.

I agree. |
yeah so i forgot that there is another interesting piece of the picture.
i had another real good female friend (jewish israeli) who i was somewhat interested in but knew that what i felt with girl a was much stringer. the day before i told girl a aobut my feelings, girl b told me that she has feelings for me. and i told her that kinda did as well but that there is someone else. now she is telling me that she needs space, and time apart. which is understandable but its just a lot for me to deal with, the feeling that two important relationships that i had might be somewhat destroyed, over the course of two days.... anywise.... just thought i might add this update |
now that's what i call really screwing things up!
|
yeah its all pretty messed up now...
|
preconceptions be damned.
she sounds worth fighting for. prove her wrong! |

so aside from the obvious allusions to Romeo and Juliet here, let me ask you, is this girl an orthodox christian? I understand many Palestinian Arab Christians are Greek Orthodox. If she is practicing orthodox (i mean for real, not for family) then it will be very hard to get over things, its hard for orthodox christians to date any non-orthodox people, the orthodox church requires a strict lifestyle which is fairly incompatible outsiders [ trust me from experience with this one :( ] |

get the fuck out of there and go to cyprus. then migrate to amerikkka. nobody gives a shit what god's dick you bow to here-- unless you're trying to run for president, but at that point you could move back to israel. |

do you have to keep it secret? |
When the police come a knocking after she's ran away and not been home for a couple weeks you will find they will be on your side and can help from then on. Plus when her 'guardian' brothers turn up you can blame them for calling the fucking cops but then the copz can help ya! x
