tv shows that have jumped the shark

THE SIMPSONS!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHY WONT THIS SHOW DIE??? it's not funny anymore!!

Пятхъдесят Шест 06.22.2006 11:48 AM

Nah, The Simpsons have stuck around for a reason.

I wouldn't mind seeing South Park go though. I never really thought it was that funny, and it spawned a bunch of stupid quips.

Alex's Trip 06.22.2006 11:49 AM

Yeah South Park and Family Guy can go die. That American Dad one too, if it hasn't already.

On a different note, why did Futurama get cancelled so quickly? Only 4 seasons?! Lame.

Laila 06.22.2006 11:51 AM

sometimes i feel as though south park and family guy cross the line with some of the shit they show on there. and i know there are those of you who will say well i don't have to watch it, and i don't, but the fact remains that some of that crap is crossing the line for basic tv cause there are little kids watching it whether if you think so or not.

does anyone else feel this way?

h8kurdt 06.22.2006 11:53 AM

the simpsons sure does suck now. If I was to meet Matt Groening I wouldn't be bumming him saying his program is great i'd say1.The show sucks now. Quit whilst you can. 2.What's the big deal with all this shitty merchandise? You've turned into Krusty yourself.

But alas we have a movie out and a contract has been signed to keep the show going till 2008 (or was it 2009?)

Laila 06.22.2006 11:54 AM

ugh!!! say it isn't so!! oh my god how bad is it gonna get?

the old episodes are classic cause they are situations that might happen in real life, somewhat believeable. now the episodes are so outrageous and bart and lisa don't act their age and the show is just so unbelieveable it's not even funny.

h8kurdt 06.22.2006 11:55 AM

Family guy rules.

Пятхъдесят Шест 06.22.2006 11:56 AM

Laila, in case you forgot, you have a Simpsons character as your avatar. wtf

h8kurdt 06.22.2006 11:56 AM

Memories of whn it was great maybe?

Laila 06.22.2006 11:57 AM

i know Пятхъдесят Шест, i still love the old episodes. those are awesome!

Glice 06.22.2006 11:57 AM

The latter period of the Simpsons still gets me. [puts wanker hat on] The thing with the Simpsons is that it has transcended its meagre beginnings as a moderately amusing cartoon, into the so-called 'golden era' (series 4 onwards) and into something approaching a proper social artform. It's not as funny any more, but it still tells you more about popular culture from a mysteriously ambiguous standpoint than the rest of the media combined. [takes wanker hat off]

Yeah. I like the Simpsons.

LifeDistortion 06.22.2006 11:59 AM

7th Heaven. Someone made a deal with the devil to keep that show on the air as long as it has. This year was supposed to be the final season. The WB even aired a series finale. Now I've heard when the CW network starts in September, a new season of "7th Heaven" will air. WTF?!

Laila 06.22.2006 12:00 PM

that show is sooooooooo bad. damn that shit has been on since i was in elementary school!! fuck that's a long time!!!!

Пятхъдесят Шест 06.22.2006 12:03 PM

Glices Wanker Hat

h8kurdt 06.22.2006 12:03 PM

Actually I thought the marijuana episode was quite good and that was pretty/semi recent.

I like Family Guy, and as far as South Park goes, well, I don't have cable anymore, so I don't know. But yes, American Dad is the worst cartoon I've seen, it's just NOT FUNNY.

But the reason I quoted this is cause of Futurama... Fox has already had Matt start making more episodes for a comeback, PLUS, ALSO, IN ADDITION TO THAT, there is talk of straight-to-DVD movies, which would be just, well, fantastic.

Futurama is being revived. Comedy Central just bought 18 new episodes to be produced. The tentavive air date of the completed episodes isn't until sometime in 2008.

aww sweet! Atari you are giving me loads of good news for some reason today!

static-harmony 06.22.2006 12:55 PM

fuck yeah thank god they are bringing futurama i love that show its better than the simpsons.

qprogeny79 06.22.2006 01:21 PM

i know i'm going to catch hell for this . . . but i actually like south park. it's become quite an amusing form of social commentary. though i have to admit i'm not fond of all the scatology.

i'll agree with most of you that the simpsons should go. it ceased being amusing years upon years upon years ago.

LittlePuppetBoy 06.22.2006 01:30 PM

almost everyone has sais this, but the simpsons should really die

I stopped watching the newer episodes a looong time ago. and I'm not going to see the movie

WOW, nice avatar! Bruce

atari 2600 06.22.2006 01:43 PM

from "Gump Roast" (aired 2002)

You'll never stop the Simpsons
Ullman shorts
Christmas show,
Marge's fling
Homer's bro,
Bart in well
Flanders fails,
Whacking snakes
Monorail,
Mr. Plow
Homer in space
Sideshow Bob steps on rakes,
Lisa's future
Selma's hubby,
Marge not proud
Homer chubby,
Homer worries Bart is gay,
Poochie
U2
NRA,
Hippies
Vegas
and Japan,
Octuplets
and Bart's boy band,
Marge murmurs
Maude croaks,
Lisa Buddhas
Homer tokes,
Maggie blows
Burns away,
What else do I have to say?!?

You'll never stop The Simpsons
Have no fears,
we've got stories for years like...
Marge becomes a robot
Maybe Moe gets a cell phone
Has Bart ever owned a bear or...
How about a crazy wedding?
Where something happens,
and do-do do-do-do
Sorry for the clip show
Have no fears,
we've got stories for years!

Alex's Trip 06.22.2006 01:48 PM

Finally. Is this something official? There were so many rumors going on about it coming back to Fox, and then it wasn't and it was going to be a straight to dvd movie, etc. Where did you hear this from?

h8kurdt 06.22.2006 01:49 PM

Please tell me god that that's a piss take.

atari 2600 06.22.2006 01:51 PM

That's what was being discussed as of late last year which reported that CC actually purchased the 18 shows. I suppose there are breach of contract loopholes, but I have heard nothing that this was officially dead since then. There are also rumors now that Fox may get the series back & that TBS/Cartoon Network is interested as well. The latest rumor actually (as I search around) is from Billy West (who does many of the voices) who says that there are to be 26 new shows (2 new seasons) & it's still up in the air as to which network is airing the new shows, so my bad.

jon boy 06.22.2006 02:07 PM

all shows should stop after a few series maybe three. its such a shame to watch things go on and get less and less funny like the simpsons etc.

its just the studios making money and re hashing the same shit over and over again because they know they can make money out of it.

acousticrock87 06.22.2006 02:12 PM

As much as I like Futurama, I don't want more of it.

I used to love Family Guy and was completely stoked about the new season. And don't get me wrong, it was still just as funny. But after 3 episodes I just stopped liking it. Something clicked. It's like a CD where every single song has the same riff and tempo with different lyrics and licks. You can listen for all the nice differences, but in the end it will only make you nauseous.

That is essentially what I had been reading too.

I feared that that may happen. I thought Family Guy was okay, and then the new seasons just sucked. But I can't see that really happening with Futurama unless Futurama really gets changed.

What about SNL? Not that I want to see it go, I actually like it... again. It REALLY started to suck in the early 2000's, but I think they figured out the problem and started bringing on people with actual experience in sketch comedy, and not just stand up comedians, and now it's pretty good. But my original point (I tend to lose focus quickly), how much longer do you see it staying on the air? It's been on FOREVER, but has it become a staple, like the Tonight Show?

Rob Instigator 06.22.2006 03:39 PM

I FUCKING HATE FAMILY GUY, and I have hated it since the beggining and it is the single stupidest cartoon on television. worse even than the ones about the mummies from egypt that fight mummy crime.

the worst simpson's episode is ten times better than anything the stupid fucking shit sucking Family Guy ever put out. it is just NOT funny. The Fami.ly guy is like watching Robin Williams in his latest movies. you know exactly waht joke they will tell, you know exactly what the punchline will be, you even know exactly how it will be delivered. it is the most basic bullshit easy-joke nonsense around.
I FUCKING HATE IT LIKE I HATE U2

Futurama was the greatest. I love watching it on DVD. I hope they bring it back and they get all the same voice talent. remember that it was cancelled after being moved around on the schedule 6 times in 4 years. that is sabotage from the network.
